Romantic love lasts only a year

love forever - long lasting love

I read from a certain article that there is a chemical in our brain which makes us romantic and will disappear in over a year. They say this explains why the happy, wonderful and confident feelings we experience at the start of a relationship do not last forever. Researchers discovered that levels of a chemical called Nerve Growth Factor (NGF) greatly increase when a person first falls in love. NGF levels come from the rush of adrenalin and love of life that occur when new love blossoms. The chemical fades over a year or so after people become more secure in a relationship. Do you agree on this? Or do you think that love can last forever?

when my wife and i started dating out, i always feel that butterfly feeling in my stomach. i love hanging out with her, spending my days with her, just being with her completes me ( as so one movie said so.) now we are already married and i am still head over hill in love with her!

I don´t agree, I think that love could last forever, if you love somebody and if you knows how to spark the fire of love then it last forever. Love it´s the most important thing in a relation, so there´s nothing there without love.

Dear friend, I dont know much about it .... but it seems true that the same age love is not so effective. The cause is that NGF u mentioned. As far as I know little of Biology a girl is four year elder by mind than a guy .... so same age love can be a huge difficulty

Thats interesting, im not surprised, recently scientists have been discovering more and more that our feelings are simply chemical reactions going on in the brain and that they are stimulated by certain things.

I don't agree with that. My hubby and I have been married a year and a half but in all we have been together for 7 years and I still look at him and get butterflies in my stomache at times. It is up to the couple to keep the magic going but I really believe true love lasts forever!

Love can lasty but passion goes after a year or two. After that year or two you can have moments of passion, but i feel might be difficult to stay with those same standard from the begining of the relation. For me, love and passion are not exactly the same, but can can exists with the other.

i think it may rise when you are starting to have a relationship but i do not think it will all off a sudden disappear if you really love someone, maybe Nerve Growth Factor disappears from the brain of a person who didn't love for true and had made a compromise.

well i agree to an extent... meeting a stranger for the 1st time can be very tempting resulting in butterflies in stoomach and othr effects... then being secure wid each othr will reduce it, but not necessarily reduce the romance.. i am in a relationship for more than a yr now... but no reduction in romance or luv..

i dont agree. if romantic last only a year, why so many people can love each other until soo many many years, and why if someone break up, he or she could love someone again after the break up? ^^

In part I agree, cause I had it in the past too...but I think it also depends by the couple.

a man - Just a man to show.
I really don't know if that is true or not because everyones chemical balance is different and everyone has a different opion or what romance is and some really don't care for the romance they just want to dive into the relationship. So in my opion I really think they would have had to have study thousands of different people and age groups. If you love someone the relationship will last.

When in a relationship, the first few months are really special. You can feel your heart pounding and body seems to tingle. True, that those feelings start to fade as time passes. But as time pass, the love that both of you share grows stronger. The feeling may be gone, but the love will definitely stay.

i dont think so, i think it depends between the two of you, coz there are some cases there were really people who are born romantic, and if they find the same romantic person, i think they are match, and sometimes it happens that there som people who are not really born romantic or romance is not their cup of tea.
