New myLot features!

We’ve listened to the myLot community and have implemented several new features to make myLot even better. First of all, the search function is a lot better. You can now search photos and private messages based upon tags or the text of the photo and message descriptions. Next, users now have the ability to delete their myLot private messages. This will give everyone the opportunity to clean out their inbox and get rid of old messages! Pagination now appears at the top and bottom of discussions with 10 or more responses. This will allow users to navigate discussions without all the extra scrolling! We have also made a couple of changes that reward our experienced users and give our new users a goal to strive for. Only users with a rating over 500 will be allowed to upload photos into comments and responses. In addition, only users with a rating over 500 will be allowed to paste text into the discussion box when allowed under myLot guidelines. While it is still a violation of the myLot guidelines to copy and paste others discussions and copyrighted content, there are times when the paste function is helpful, and our best users know the difference. Finally, users can now rate photos with a + or – and can report abuse on photos. We are really happy with this feature because it will increase the relevance of photos uploaded into discussions and interests, and give myLot users more control over the photos they see!

Thanks for the new features..It will definitely make our experiences here more convenient. But one thing I wasn't able to accept...why is a person having a user rating of more than 500 considered to be a best user..Of course he/she has responded to more number of discussions as well as created threads, but at the same time so many users having a rating so high are the ones who are responsible for scams and they are the ones creating baseless threads, and topics with just yes/no responses. Many of them even have the attrocity to copy others discussions. They maybe only a few of the large majority but the good ones are also doubted because of this. And why are only they allowed to upload pictures?? I don't know if anybody else feels the same way!!

It seems to me that they are trying to curb the abuse with new users who signup. There are a few bad apples that have made it past 500, but this will help stop future bad apples from infiltrating the site. Just my opinion. I have no problem with any of this.

I myself am pretty new here so I don't have the "rating" yet to be a "best user". From what I have seen thus far, you are absolutely correct. It is kinda being taken out on all the newcomers because of what has probably been going on for a while (or so it seems anyway when you browse old threads). Although I feel something indeed should be done to stop all of the pics that do not pertain to the discussion from being able to be uploaded, as well as pointless questions (as I thought this was a place for discussions), the "copy & paste bandits" that steal from websites and other forums, and so forth. However, what about the honest people, people who simply want to spell check their entries before posting them, or people who actually HAVE pics of certain topics that they would like to share? I have been fairly "active" in the fews days here I have been a member, but when you are treated as a guilty party just because you're new....well it kinda makes me NOT want to share the referral link I was given, nor spend as much time logged on here as I first did.

i got some more suggestions for mylot.... 1.users should be able to delete their own posts in any discussion 2.sometimes due to a bad connection when i press refresh while responding to a topic before the submit taggs screen my post gets reposted without me even knowing it, so y dont u introduce a warning message that telling the user about post being reposted with the same text, like orkut does. 3.an introduction of smilies would be a lot fun & helpful tankyou!

I think the chages are a good step in the right direction. I do agree with Greengal tht a lot of the people who have over 500 rating are the ones who are breaking the rules, but I think in time with the members of mylot reporting any of the discusssions and responses that break the rules, we will eventually end up with quality discussion without the rule breakers. Thanks mylot for continuing to make this a wonderful community.

I am sorry, MyLot, if I appear to disagree with you. You see, I am from India and access the Net thru a dial-up on most occasions. Secondly, I have to do a Winter Vacations project in which I have to pick any 5 topics (current affairs/movies/sports/television viewing and one topic of my choice) and write a brief discussion, debating the good and the bad points of the above. Now since I am type the complete project on my computer and I am only going to write the discussions, it would have been comfortable to paste my discussions in Mylot, since all the content would be my own!! But now I am unable to type any of those topics, becoz typing the same thing twice will be boring and not too much fun!! So I believe that people who have good original content and have recently joined MyLot, are being restrained from posting their own original stuff here. If possible please do a rethink on this one!!

That allowing only those with 500 or more really puts a damper on things, as I usually write things out in Notepad & then paste. I've had the unpleasant experience of typing it out in the discussion box, & then instead of posting, I end up staring at, "This page cannot be displayed" or my browser freezes up & then having to type out my response all over again. I think it's discrimination.

That's really strange. I've been in MyLot for 4 months now and have never had that happen. It sounds like a lot of extra work to type things in teh notepad first. I can well understand their reason for doing the cut and paste thing. There are a lot of people that sign up for MyLot to make some quick bucks and cut and paste their way through every discussion. This will stop them before they can get started.

I tried to post step-by-step instructions in a forum a long time ago. That was probably the first time it happened. When I typed them out again after losing it, I had skipped a step, & the forum didn't give me the ability to edit a post.

Yay! Fantastic. :) I do have a question though. Why am Ijavascript:__doPostBack('ctl00$cphMainContent$lbStart','') post response no longer able to add pictures to posts? That option seems to have disappeared. Is it just me? Thanks for your continued great work! ~Wyrdsister

Regarding photos, I assume those with ratings under 500 will still be able to upload photos as list photos and as illustrations for the discussions they start...or am I missing a vital bit of information?

it is a good move, the next thing many are expecting is the opportunity to edit or delete the discussion created by themselves. like if i have created one discussion i should be able to edit the question or delete the question as after few discussion one may affect by the worldings mentioned in the question.

see in place of wording i typed worlding i dont have the chance to edit now , so i think edit option would be a good option, sometimes we start discussion when we respond to other discussion we come to know similar type of discussion was started before so we need to delete our discussion, so the option of delete is necessary.
