How often do you get your 'Five A Day'?

On how many days in the average week do you manage to eat five portions of fruit and vegetables each day? Do you think that it is too expensive to buy fruit and vegetables?

Although we do eat a fair amount of fruit and veggies in our house, there are times that the ones I want are out of the budget for the week (examples right now, in our area, are cauliflower and broccoli... prices are through the roof for very mediocre quality). When I feel I'm not getting enough, I try to supplement by drinking vegetable juice, which I actually like a lot. It seems to be an easy way to work towards the "five a day" :)

Thanks for the reply :) Vegetable juices sounds like a great idea, I think I'll give that a shot!

As a vegetarian I have no problem in getting my share of vegetables and fruits :) but I also think it's very important for non-vegetarians, too bad that many people are not interested or not able to get a fair amount of fruits and vegetables daily..

Yes, sometimes I eat more than five of each type. They are the staples of my diet. I save money buying bulk vegetables and fruit at the club store, otherwise I would not be able to afford them. I also buy bulk frozen veggies which I steam. When I go out to eat, I try to get vegetarian meals or salads.

I try to get them in but sometimes find it difficult trying to incorporate so much into the day. Also if buying fresh produce which of course is the better alternative it can be very expensive. It just seems strange to me that eating healthy should cost so much. Junk and processed foods are cheaper which seems silly to me. I have a friend that went to a food pantry for assistance. Which is wonderful that people donate but 3/4 of what she recieved was sweets and junk food but when you and your family are hungry and in need anything would do but it would be nice to be able to get healthy alternatives.

I seldom get 1 a day even, but since I've been hearing a lot about this lately, on tv and even online, maybe I should give it a try. Yes it may add to my expenses but if it's going to be good for me and my family then I should do it.
