Yes, I do measure out the ingrediences as I cook or bake. That way it will always come out the same way. I keep a book of receipes that I write it down in. Do you have a book to do it in? How do you hold your receipes?

A large majority of the time I do end up measuring my ingredients before hand. Especially when it comes to making new recipes. Sometimes though if I have made a recipe a few times before I will add a few other things that I've wanted to try but we're unsure of before hand.. Or I just won't measure the ingredients because I've made it so many times before. But usually I won't do this when it's my first time using a new recipe.. Because of course I want to make sure that the recipe ends up turning out in general firstly. So I find this is the only time when I change a recipe a little bit.. I do find though measuring your ingredients is essential when it comes to cooking a large majority of the time! I find the correct balance of the ingredients you are using is what helps to make the food taste so good! I know that personally when I haven't measured my ingredients before hand that.. If I add to much salt or to much sugar, or to much of any ingredient in general.. You usually can taste when something is to salty or to sweet.. And sometimes by just adding to much of a certain ingredient.. That you can end up ruining the whole recipe in general just because you ended up doing something such as this.. I know every time I've done this that I've felt either angry or disappointed with myself because I feel like it's so difficult to fix a recipe once it's already ruined. And I personally dislike wasting ingredients that I've bought.. So due to personal experience.. I've learned that it's best to measure your ingredients before hand instead of just guessing.. I know I see all the time.. Professional cooks just throwing a pinch of this, or a dash of that.. And they always make it look so easy when they do things such as this, but.. I guess because they have experience they don't always need to necessarily use the exact measuring tool or measure it exactly to where it's supposed to be.. I don't know I kind of think it's silly when they do this.. Because they are just like any of us out there & are bound to ruin recipes just like we do sometimes.. haha. In conclusion.. From my so called "bad experiences" I've learned that measuring your ingredients.. Is very important as it not only helps your food to taste good.. But at the same time when you measure your ingredients you can help to prevent ruining the recipe by following the correct directions. At least this is what I have learned along the way! . . Thanks for allowing me to share! xx

I don't measure when I make up my own recipes. If I use someone else's, though, I do.

I measure ingredients when I'm using recipes. For just every day cooking, though, I don't measure to compare tastes. That's an interesting idea, though. I might end up doing that sometimes.

If I'm following a recipe, then I definitely measure. If it's something I do from my own head, I just sort of know how much. I agree, measuring keeps your taste consistent time after time.

Yes I do, I prefer to use measuring cups and spoons while cooking..as you said to maintain consistency. Sometimes if I'm too familiar with the recipe then I don't. I'm particular about measurements when baking, beacuse otherwise it is sure to screw up!

If it is something where it's my first time cooking or baking. I will be very consistent If it's a normal dish, I've made before and comfortable with preparing it. I will just go with what I'm comfy with...

For baking cakes and biscuits I probably would - seldom bake. However, when I cook everyday dishes for my meals I only estimate the amount of ingredients I should put in and also for the condiments and spices. Maybe that's why most of my dishes may not turn out with the same taste each time I cook - LOL.

If it something that I have never cooked before then I will measure. Other than that - I measure with my eyes.

I measure ingredients if I am unsure of how to cook something properly. But, most of the things I cook now, I already know about how much ingredients go in there, so I do not need to measure them any more.

I'm more particular about the measurements when it comes to baking, other than that, I don't really bother :)

I do measure ingredients depending on what I am cooking but It is not that I measure with measuring instrument but measure with my eye-on a look at what I am cooking and the quality/quantity of the ingredient. Do you yourself measure when you are cooking? What do you use to measure?
