What do cook your rice in? Pot or electric rice cooker?

What do you use to cook your rice in? Do you cook it in a pot on the stove or in an electric rice cooker? I use an electric rice cooker and get perfect rice each time. You all might not have a rice cooker so I was wondering how many of you cook rice, and if so, what do you cook it in?

I use just a pot right now. I really want an electric rice cooker, just haven't gotten around to slotting it into a monthly budget yet, especially when I can cook rice this way just fine - just not as convenient!

I've had a lot of luck with the plastic microwave rice cookers; you can get them practically anywhere for about six dollars and it makes fluffy rice that doesn't stick. Some of them make two cups, others four but you can always adjust the amount you want. I don't have a lot of luck with rice on the stovetop so the microwave one works best for me.

I've never tried using one of those but I'll have to look into it one of these days. I didn't have much luck cooking rice on the stove, either. I would always burn it or get crunchy rice. Using a rice cooker was easier for me and produced the best results.

i love to eat rice,..so i will cook rice for my meal almost everyday. When we don't have electricity at we use the pot but now when we have electricity we use the electric rice cooker. For me to have a perfect rice is not due to what we use to cook them. But how we cook the rice it self...i mean the water measurement is most important in cooking the rice. Different type of rice will require a different level of water for cooking.

Ahh, I see. I tend to always use short-grained rice and I use the same water measurements in a pot on the stove as well as in an electric rice cooker, according to the directions on the package and the way my grandmother taught me to measure the water.

From reading this thread it seems that some people don't have a rice cooker and cook their rice in a pot on the stove.

I use both, but I prefer the rice cooker. I get perfectly steamed rice every time, whereas I almost always burn it or undercook it if I use a pot.

I'm the same way...my rice doesn't come out perfect in a pot on the stove for some reason!

I cook my rice on the stove in a stainless steel pot. Comes out right just about all the time. I have no problem cooking rice the old fashion way. A rice cooker would be interesting.

When my mother was alive, she always used to cook rice in a pot using firewood for cooking. Now my wife cooks in a electronic rice cooker and uses gas for cooking. There is a vast difference in taste. Earlier one could get aroma of the rice.

I have a rice cooker but never think to use it. I usually cook it on the stove and occasionally in the microwave.

We used to cook rice in a rice cooker but it was destroyed and now we cook rice in a kettle on a gas stove. In the province, we cook rice using firewood and it tastes better than those cooked in other ways.

I cook my rice in a pot on the stove because I am too afraid to buy a rice cooker. I am worried that if I get a cheap one, I will never use it because it won't work right. Then I am also worried that if I spend good money on a more expensice (but better) rice cooker, I won't use it enough and then resent it being there and taking up counter space. I will be moving in the summer to a place with more room, so maybe I will rethink it all then. In the meantime, I cook all my rice on the stove and just watch it very carefully.

I have an electric rice cooker that I use. It's convenient to just set it and let it do it's thing. I've heard that one of the best ways to cook rice is in the oven. I suppose that the trick with good rice is keeping the whole thing the same temperature, so that's why the oven method works well. There was an episode of Alton Brown's where he did this... I'll look for a link.

We have a steamer. We can steam vegies at the same time too. We have rice several times a week. Neither one of us can cook rice on the stove so the steamer is perfect.

I am Asian, and in my country rice is the main food. I have a mini electric rice cooker at my place and I love the smell when it's being cooked. As it's important in my country, now the rice cookers are modified with useful features which can be also used to bake cakes, cook porridge, and soup. Regards
