Headlines to Inflame others?

Do you pick catchy headlines that inflame fellow mylotters/mylotians to just get responses? I have seen a number of headlines that grab my attention but after reading the discussion realize that the headline was to get people to respond. The problem that I have found with this is that by the time people clicked on it to respond that they are already so angry that they don't even read the whole discussion before responding, and then the whole discussion is the person trying to defend themselves. I understand that people want to have popular discussions but do you think that it's right to start discussions with headlines that inflame just for the responses?

I like to start discussions that make people think about the way they live their lives. I don't want to get lots of responses just for the sake of it, I want to get lot so f responses as hopefully that will reflect the amount of people that have thought differently about something, if only for a minute.

I like those also, but the ones that are created for the sole purpose of inflaming others for responses, and then wonder why people are so angry because it isn't what their views were, because people were so angry from the headline that they didn't take the time to read the discussion carefully before responding. Just my 2 cents worth.

Yes I think that people should read the whole discussion including ALL the responses before commenting or responding. I just don't think they do after they are inflamed.

I don't think they should do that either , There are 2 here who come to mind , I sat and looked then I got angry and had to respond , I am a polite person and to be honest didn't say what I really felt , but these people did get a lot of responses so it did the trick xx

It does amaze me that they do get so many responses, because I really feel that's why they do it. I did respond to one yesterday, that I probably shouldn't have.

No, I've never done this. I wouldn't try to intentionally mislead or inflame people.

I don't know about deliberately trying to get people angry, but surely the purpose of the headline is to get the attention of people and to get them to respond?

Thank you, not arguing there, it should grab your attention. But do you think that the headline should be made so that the majority get angry and not read the discussion? That seems to be happening, people get so angry by the headline they don't read the whole discussion.

If the headline is so provoking that people are just reacting to that and not reading the discussion properly then that's somewhat self defeating. I think that's the point that you're trying to make?

No, but I am amused by those who do. I always wonder if they bother to read the mylot guidelines. Chances are their discussions will be deleted and than we all get to see "Why did my earnings go Down?" headlines. LOL I know a lot of the trafic exchanges I joined won't put my links up until they have been approved by the site administration. Mylot might want to consider doing that as well.

LOL, it may have made you laugh, but we both know it's the truth. Thanks for the best response.

I so know it's the truth. LOL Your welcome. Waiting for it to happen again here in a few weeks, I won't be one of the ones starting the thread though. :)

Great point about the links. My understanding was that you can't use a link in the discussion but in the responses the links can be inserted there. I like your joke about the earnings going down, it made me laugh!

LOL. I have seen alot of those too and when I open the topic or discussion, it is something that I really cannot or do not want to spend time to relate to. I had already had my mind or thoughts ready to respond to something totally different. Some of the topics inside is only to express something that they want to share with others but maybe some do not want to even take the time to read or discuss it.

I have seen alot of discussions about do you read the discussion or just the headline? I think that in these types of discussions it is just the headline. As you stated your thoughts were prepared for a differnt response, but you read the discussion and then chose not to answer, many don't. I think that most of the time people don't read it because they are now angry and even if they do read it they are reading it differently because of the headline. Just my 2 cents worth.

I generally ignore such headlines and I think that people should create discussions with truthful headlines and forget about hyping their discussions just because they need responses. Such actions generate a lot of negative ratings.

I'm sure they do, but were not suppose to negatively mark for opposing opinions.

No, I don´t. I don´t answer them either, but I read these discussions. It´s interesting to see how people react. Sometimes it´s only too obvious that people pick a catchy headline in order to get a lot of answers. I don´t like this method, but unfortunately there´s nothing much I can do about it. I think these discussions are usually started by users who haven´t read the guidelines and have no idea that their posts are eventually going to be deleted.

Thank you, I usually just read through them also and skip leaving a comment myself.

I don't have any problem with catchy headlines, I do have a problem with to personal topics. I don't want to respond to topics like "did you enjoy your first s.e x?" or, "help, by bf is cheading"

Thank you, I do the same. Nost of the time by the time I'm done, I don't even respond as everyone else pretty much said what I would have said.

I find it unproductive to consider whether things are right or wrong. Things are what they are. We're all just bundles of energy looking for an outlet. There are more productive ways of doing so than making judgments.

I know exactly what you are talking about. I've seen those discussion headlines over and over again. I don't bother with answering them, and if they are really inflammatory, I give a negative rating. NOT because I disagree with them, but because their intentions are to cause trouble.

LOL, I will usually not respond but will read through and rate people for valid points given. They scare me too. I did respond to one this morning. Although I did read the whole discussion many people didn't. I think that after the headline people have already started forming their response and that is why alot of times the responses don't go with the discussion. When people get angry they often times stop seeing reason, or in this case just don't read the discussion carefully. Just my 2 cents worth.

I don't think I do so but maybe I have? No I don't think I have. You are right that it gets people too riled and they don't read the whole thing. Then things get crazy.
