I love omlette, tonight I need to use up the left over veg from last night and I was wondering since I need to loose quite alot of weight - is omlette a good meal for me? I am never sure whether eggs are good or bad so I'm never sure whether I can have a vegeterian omlette or not. Any ideas?

In moderation Eggs are not bad for you I use eggs a lot and I have eggs on Salad. So you should be ok with an Omlette. I know my Friend did the Atkinson Diet and she was aloud to have Eggs and I know she had the occassional Omlette as well.

Thanks Gabs, had a mixed veg omlette and a little stir fried veg, as you might know Shrek added 2 salmon fishcakes, chips and beans to his, so he had all the kids had, 1/2 my omlette and 2/3 of the stir fri. I really enjoyed my omlette, I had said I would never diet again but well, maybe it is time to try a different approach, lol.

I tend to agree with Gabs' comment on this, in that just like everything else eggs are ok in moderation. I really think that is the key to successful dieting, not denying yourself, just making sure the portions are not huge.

Thanks Sue, I'm trying to avoid the diet word as it makes me fel hungry, lol. I get a bit obsessive and follow a diet really well usually, till I make myself ill worrying about everything I eat so tis time last year I said no more. I haven't put any weight on since but it's really time to make a different kind of effort. My problem is I never feel full. lol

Omelets are my favorites. You can have it. Make sure not to have more than 2 eggs. I like it with asparagus and mushrooms. I always add hot sauce to it. Very good.

Hi there, rainbow. I'm glad for this opportunity to answer one of your questions. From what I know, one egg has about 80 calories and the yolk takes up about 75% of it. So, what about a white omelette (just egg whites) and you can have some mushrooms added, which are low in calories and healthy (that is, if you like them) plus your vegetables. Then you will probably not feel like you are depriving yourself. As for the egg yolks - give it to your dog! The protein from it will be good for his fur, nails and eyes. Oh, and aren't there low fat cheese in the market now?

I hopeful, I love mushroom omlette and thanks for the great way to use up the yolks, I've always wondered what I was meant to do when everyone says use the whites only, lol. My newty dog would love the yolks fried up with her tea, thanks ever so much.

I eat eggs all the time I am on a very low carb diet The atkins diet lets you eat eggs, and cheese all you want because they are low in carbs. I have heard the same thing and I don't think anyone really knows whether they are good or bad for us. I just think that people back in the pioneer days ate fresh eggs all the time. My grandparents and great grandparents did. My great grandfather lived to be 101 and loved his eggs.

I love eggs and cook in as little oil as possible, I heard that a boiled egg takes more calories to eat than it carries, lol. I kep hearing different hings and I now think there's no hard and fast rule about them, so like your great grandfather , I'm going to continue to enjoy an egg, in moderation of course, lol.

even i love omlettes in all shapes and colors but that doesn't make it healthy with all oil and frying stuff. i think in moderation it's okay and if we could avoid the yolk part and can use little oil- it's excellent. veg omlette requiires oil and frying aswell, so it's not advisable. i think we can have both in moderation and healthy cooking. now, here goes my fave recipe: Spanish Omelette Ingredients (serves 5) 2 medium potatoes, peeled and cubed 5 eggs, lightly beaten (Use all egg whites but only 2 yolks) 2 large onions, minced 6 dsp red or green capsicums, diced 2 large tomatoes, chopped 1/2 tsp salt Dash of pepper 1 1/2 dsp unsaturated oil Garnishing Parsley Lettuce Nutrient Analysis (per serving) Calories 156 kcal Total Fat 5 g Saturated Fat 1 g Cholesterol 54 mg Dietary Fibre 4 g Sodium 283 mg Method Heat oil in a non-stick pan. Stir-fry potatoes, onions and capsicums until tender and golden brown. Add tomatoes, salt and pepper and stir-fry for another 2 to 3 minutes. Stir in beaten eggs and mix it evenly with vegetables. Reduce heat and cook until omelette is set. Remove from pan and finish off by browning the top of omelette under a grill. Cut omelette into wedges, garnish and serve on bed of lettuce. Useful tips: As egg yolks are high in cholesterol, use in moderation. Serve with vegetable salads to increase fibre content of the dish. thanx

Since the egg is a complete package as God made it then you are safe to eat it. Enjoy that omelette and the vegetables are the best part. Then any other omelette you could go vegetarian..which is funny since the egg is an animal product. Just go ahead and eat that egg. God would want you too I think.

Thank-you so much for that, I had heard that a boiled egg took more caleris to digest than it carried, and thought it might be good for me but everyone seems to have a different opinion and as I cannot manage proper diets without going crazy am looking for my own ideas, lol. Would I have to leave out the egg for a vegetarian omlette? If I put cheese in it is it still vegetarian? Do vegans eat egg free omlette, this is getting silly now, lol. I did stuff as many vegetables and extra mushrooms in as I could so the egg only held it together really nad it was lovely. I stir fried some more veg without sauce and for a little while felt quite full. Now I'm trying to convinve myself that I'm not hungry.

It's a no no to eat much eggs especially yolks even you're not in a diet. Cause yolks have so much cholesterol and fats that will contribute to your body. What you can do is prepare omlette in a healthy way by removing the yols and just add herbs and spices just to satisfied your buds. hope that will help!

All things are healthy in moderation. Having a couple of eggs per week is not going to cause you to gain a lot of weight. Plus you are eating veggies which makes it even better for you.

Eggs are healthy when eaten in small dosages. Have a one egg omelette. They are packed with protein and nutrients so yes they are very nutrious but the yolks can be bad for you, IF you eat a lot. Egg white omelettes are pretty good if you want to avoid the yolk altogether. And putting the veggies in there is a great way to get the veg servings!

Thanks for the egg advice and serving quantity, I think the amount I eat is mre wrong than what I eat really. I put on a lot of weight with my pregnancies and choose what I have done sinwce it has never gone, dieting just seems to depress me so I thoought I'd try my way instead of all; the fancy diets we get told to try. I just had a 1 1/2 egg omlette stuffed ful of veggies and about 1/2 serving of stir fri veg, I am struggling to pretend to myself that I am full but I'm ok.

Eating an egg is not bad at all, even if you are trying to loose weight but remember not to cook it in too much fat, don't add meats( since you said veg omlettes this is ruled out ) and cheeses to it. That should do the trick, removing the yolk will be losing out on many good vitamins, so unless you have some kind of heart condition don't remove the yolks they have lot of good in them too but do not exceed the 1 egg a day limit and if you really do have a craving for 2 then add just 1 yolk and throw the other away or better still if you do not want to eat yolks at all buy packaged Egg whites carton, this way you would not have to waste a whole lot of egg yolks. Me and my hubby buy both good wholesome eggs and packaged whites. And if we need to eat omlettes we use packaged eggs, for boiled or bull's eye we eat whole eggs! If we want a nice big, hearty omlette we just mix the 2 and whip the concotion up well and treat ourselves grandly! Oh also many people have the habit of adding whole cream when they whip up the eggs for an omlette do not do this. Otherwise an egg is just 90 calories packed with easily digestable proteins and vitamins. the negative part is the cholestrol part but if you excercise regulary and generally eat healthy this should not be of any health concern at all.

Finally, this makes sense, lol. Cream in omlette - wow, I'd have never thought of that, lol. I tend to buy free range from the local farm, but will look for the others in the shop, to mix in. Thank-you so much for the info, it's been getting more and more confusing so I'm just going to eat eggs in moderation and leave it at that.

Now this is what i call an intresting discussion ok my friend first if you need to loose weight then i think eggs are a good diet minus the yellow yoke so if you use and eat the egg white and add other ingridents to your omlette then it should be ok but if you prefer to eat the yellow yoke as well then i would suggest eggs are beat eaten in the morning cos they say one egg (including the yoke )needs atleast four hour workout to digest it so if you are the workout type then it is best you have it in your mornings and afternoons if you are a heavy worker like metal industry or construction business or a sales job where lot of walking is involved but in the night is a complete and strict NO hope this helps u

A two egg omlette with heaps of vegetables will not hurt you rainbow, providing of course that you use olive oil or spray rather than butter and go lightly with the cheese. Of course it is not an every night meal, but once a week is okay. With regard to having eggs and the affect it can have on your health, the opinions vary on it. About 10 years ago I was told only 2 eggs per week, then it was only 2 egg yolks and as many egg whites as i liked per week. Then it didn't matter but no more than 1 egg per day, so nobody really knows for certain. Forget the word "diet" too rainbow, and think that it is a lifestyle you have chosen, and that includes your choices in the food that you eat. Diet actually sounds restrictive and that is what puts so many people off the whole idea but a friend of mine has been talking about "lifestyle eating" for a number of years now. The other thing to remember is that it took you years to put the weight on, so you are not going to take it off overnight. Also you will need to tone up, with exercise, as you lose weight and there will be times when you think nothing is happening but it actually is. Do not look at the scales to see how you are doing with your lifestyle eating program, but instead go by the fit of your clothes. As your clothes get looser, you will know that you are shedding inches and that should be the guide you use. If you feel that you must weigh yourself, then do it at the same time, once a week only. Good luck rainbow and I am sure that you can do it. Look forward to getting a monthly report on your progress and we will not judge you but just provide the support that you might find you need from time to time. :)

Hi Ossie, thank you so much for your response, it sums up how I feel entirely, I find as soom as I say diet I am permanently starving, lol. I put weight on during both pregnancies and made myself ill last year trying to loose it, the more I lost the more my blood pressure went up - stress induced, I worried about everything I ate so in the end the nurse said have a month off eat whatever you fancy and I felt so much better I never went back - or put the weight back on. Now it's time to start again. My size 16 jeans are falling down annoyingly but my legs are to chubby for a smaller size so I wear skirts mostly. I know this time last year I was just under 14 stone and I threw the scales away as they make the bathroom a bad place, they drew me every time I went in, lol. I'm only 5 foot 2 so that is pretty bad. I was 9 stone pre kids and never thought about food. Iv'e lengthened the dogs time on the beach and will try to do it for longer each day, now my nasty bug has cleared up. I have to find new wyas of eating so I feel full without a diet sheet running my life. Lifestyle eating sounds an even better way of saying weight control which I was trying to convince myself sounded better. I will let you know whne I need to buy something in a smaller size, it might take a while but thanks for the support. hugs

You are right, there has been much said about the pros and cons of eating eggs. All of the fat in eggs is in the yolks, and so is the cholesterol, but I think the most up to date studies say you can eat whole eggs, just not everyday. There are important nutrients in the yolks. Just do not add lots of butter and cheese and sauces. The veggies should be perfect. The protein is good for you when you are on a diet.
@rainbow (6761)

Thanks Gerty, I do try to avoid sauces and full fat cheese if possible, and it's nice to be able to have the variety of foods. I need to change some of my eating habits, I used to diet to the letter of the drs diet sheet until I made myself ill worrying about everyting I ate and in the end had to stop trying to loose weight. I've given up with diets and am trying to find things that I like that fill me up, and are healthy. I love most veg so that makes it easier, thanks again!

Omlette is a great meal. It's filling, it gives you protein. Eggs are good in moderation - don't eat omlette every night of the week. Try once a week, and try to vary your diet and eat other things.

Hi, thanks for agreeing I can eat an omlette without it being too bad for me. I'm stir frying veg and eating vegetable soups etc and porridge. I'm trying to avoid a lot of bread, rice, potatoe, pasta, sauces and fill up on veg, it's not going too badly, although I refuse to get weighed until I feel the difference.

When I did weight watchers, they always said two eggs max. I did find that three egg yolks was more filling and less fat. If you whip up the egg whites, it makes a huge, fluffy omelet that will really fill you up.
