Will it offend you?

I recently posted a discussion about this ridiculous roller coaster story and was quite surprised by the number of responses it generated. In as much as I like to "add comment" to all those who responded, but I was somewhat at a loss as to how to give each and everyone a different comments. Most of the responses have the same identical answers and I don't want to be rude by just saying "thank you for replying." I really don't mind if a discussion that I responded didn't comment back. But will it offend you if a member didn't bother to comment on your response. After all, they did try to reply on your discussion.

If the responses are pretty much the same, I still try to give my comment "every few responses". The reason for that is that by replying, you are giving indication that you have read the posts - though you may not want to reply to everyone. This is applicable if you are getting many responses. For me, I won't be offended if someone does not reply to me. In fact to be honest, it is just not possible for me to check back to every single response I make. It will simply be a nightmare. Exception would be if I was the one who counter-asked a question - then I would mark down the url and check back (till I get tired of no-response or till he respond). However if mine was marked as the best response, I will almost, if not always, reply with a thanks. I know it may not be necessary and I might in fact get a "-" by others who are jealous about mine being the best response, but I thought it's nice for me to let the discussion starter know that I appreciate the honor. :P

I do not find anything wrong with what you're doing. We don't just write down whatever we like just for the sake of earning a few cents. But a looot of members here are doing it. But for people who will get jealous just because you got the "best response," then they better stay out of mylot. I appreciate for all your effort in partaking in all my discussion. Be it boring, irrelevant or whatever. + rating.

much as though i would like to respond personally to every response i get, it isnt always possible. However, i do read every single one and also rate them all. It doesnt offend me when people dont respond to my comment but i always appreciate it when it happens. To me it means someone has actually taken the time to read it. I think a good way round it is to appologise in advance then maybe respond to the first page of answers . Blessed be keep on posting

I try to post a response on each page saying thanks unless there is something in on of the responses strikes a chord that just totally necessitates an individual response. Also, if the post asks a question or requires clarification, I may respond to an individual. Recently, a friend just didn't understand what I was talking about, so I needed to restate my position so she could figure out what the heck I was talking about. PS. I looked, but couldn't find your cheater. Hopefully that means he got booted!

for your ease of mind i just wanna simply stated oen thing that according to mylot rules this is not necesaary to comment on responders to your discussions..or paying thnaks to each and everyone..and it also dont adds up any money to your account. and no body comes abck to check what others have commented..so its just wastage of time... so now onwards dont worry about respond to all of the responses you get only respond to those you find best and you feel you can add something to comment over it so that the responders later come to your discussion find your discussion lively not a stale piece of work. hope it works... good luck.

yes that what it has in the rules, about responding to them but i like to read back over the responses and might make a comment back, but it doesnt always happen but i guess some people are happy to know that the maker on the discussion is reading over them etc. and i dont always mark the best response either.

Thank you...thank you for that wonderful advise. I'm guilty of overlooking those guidelines. I do know that we don't earn anything by commenting back. I think I need to print out this guidelines.

All members can't possibly reply on all responses all the time. It takes a lot of time to reply and some discussions have a lot of responses. I wouldn't think you rude if you didn't respond. The idea is to post something of discussion and get responses-not to respond to every response. Hope all that makes sense!

Basically a discussion is suppose to be a two way thing. I talk(write) you talk(write) and it goes on.You may not reply to everyone who posted but it helps if you do as much as possible. For me when i get a comment to my replies i feel good that person who started the discussion took time to read the responses and wasn't just posting for cash.

hi,Its good discussion and it happens in many cases.Suppose if we get more no.of responses,we can't attend all responses in giving thanks response.Any how we have to select best response,we have to read each and every response. What we can do maximum, except saying thanks at the same time we have to think our time also.

I do rate everyone especially those who responded with 3 or 4 liners. Because I know they didn't just try to pitch in just to earn their 2 cents. Like wizard, I extend my warmest appreciation for replying. Keep posting...

not really, remember a discussion can generate 100's of replies and if you choose to respond to each and every one you wi8ll only be responding to that.you will only be reactive and not active at all.whats more we do not get paid for our comments to our responses.so try and pick the ones u want to respond to.

MyLot guidelines suggest that you not comment to all responses on your discussions. I do not do it, although I did at first. I do, however, rate 99% of the responses. There are a few that are just so nothing that they do not even get a - from me, probably 96% get a plus, there is the odd one once in awhile that does get a -, usually because they are very negative and inflammatory. Of course the rest of them will get ! when I report their abuse. I will comment randomly in my discussions to some of the responses, or to whole pages of responses at once. Maybe you could try doing that.

The only way I would ever be offended is if they asked me for something and I gave it to them and then if I asked the to private message me something in return and they never do respond. That would bother me just a bit. There is alot of things here at mylot for all of us to do and to keep up with and it is very hard to get around and respond to everyone each day. I really don't take offense to anyone. I know we all have alot to do and we have lives outside of mylot also. I think we all should do the best we can here and that should be sufficient enough.

i don't feel offended for not getting poster's comment on my comment but usually it's a slight disappointment for me. becasue when i reply i do much thinking and as this site is for discussion then it's obvious that u would like to hear what other has got to say on ur point of view. in those case when i have replied to a post in which poster has got already many replies i don't mind it much because i can understand poster's difficulty!:)

with so many discussions posted here, our mind will frizzled out. I'm not the least bit disappointed coz I know it is difficult to reply back to everyone. I just make sure I rated each one positively.

I'm not really offended if someone didn't bother to comment to my response. With that many people in myLot, it's hard to give everyone that replies to your discussion a different comment. I know that everyone has their own thoughts on the subject, but a lot of the responses are just the same as few others in the thread. Usually I comment to my thread's responses only if I have something to say about it, but I do try and make more comments as possible.

To be very honest people generally not get back to every discussion that they had replied so don't worry about it. You can simply say few words for thanking them..

If I start a discussion and it gets a lot of responses that are alike or almost the same I do try to respond, even if I just say thank you for responding. Then at least people know that you've read their response and took the time to thank them for it. I believe it fosters good relationships between members. The only time I don't respond to responses is if the person copied and pasted from a response left on that same post by a different member. I've had that happen once, and rather than respond, I left their comment alone and didn't bother to rate it. If they can't be bothered to type their own response then they shouldn't gain anything from it.

I don't reply to many of those that comment on my discussions. We all feed off of the last comment or the original post. I do read all responses and on occasions will reply. I don't get offended if my comments are not responded to. There are sometimes so many comments on one discussion that it would be ridiculous to think that the original person would reply to each comment.

Notice his star rating. You need to do what you feel is right. The purpose if the site is to have good discussions, the money is just an incentive to do your best and give well thought out answers to discussions. Making new friends is just a lovely perk.

No it would not offend me as long as when you receive a response you rate it this helps the respondent in regards to being paid by mylot and then of course you have to give best response but I always leave this for a couple of days to find the amount that actually reacted to my discussion. But 99% of the time I give a a + rating which helps the person responding.

I hope to get a response on my comment, but don't feel offended if I get none. And, it's more relief :) as I always tend to reply to that comment too, making a chain.... I don't get much replies on my posts so I'm never forced to write similar comments to each response, I mean I get enough time and ideas to comment differently:)

I know where you're coming from! For the first time since I've been here I started a discussion which generated over 80 responses. I started responding to each and every one and then I got to a stage where I felt I was repeating myself because some of the responses were quite similar. I left it and came back to it a few days later and had the same problem. I don't think people should mind if you can't comment on every single response they post. It's really not practical and makes no sense to just say to everyone "thanks for your response". Some people might even mark you with a negative rating for just saying a few words in a comment... From my point of view, I don't expect comments on all of my responses. I know from personal experience it's just not feasible :)

I have found that I just can't think of a reply to every post without repeating myself, so no I'm not offended at all.
