Can depression come and go?

I was wondering if depression can be brought on by an event? Let's say someone dies, you lose your job, or trouble with your kids. Is that a form of depression, or is it something else? And is it something that should be treated?

There is alot of different kinds of depression. There is one I believe its called atypical depression that one of the syptoms is depression that comes and goes. But alot of kinds of depression come and go.There are sites where you can take tests to find out if its mild or more serious. There also is a depression called ajustment disorder brought on by a big change or loss. And then there is seasonal depression that changes with seasons. All can be treated with meds. Not that I would take them though but thats another story.

Depression can definitely be triggered by events such as you mention - anything that causes grief, desperation, or the feeling that life is just a black hole that you cannot climb out of.......... Something that should be treated? Well, it's definitely something that should be dealt with, otherwise there is the danger of tumbling down in a vicious spiral, with one thing upon another dragging you lower and lower. My opinion though is that you should try to deal with it yourself if at all possible, because doctors will almost always prescribe "happy pills" - Paxil, or whatever the magic elixir is these days, and too many people become reliant upon them in order to cope on a day-to-day basis.

Yes! Depression come and go, if you have not dealt with properly or you invite it! Mostly people are doing both the things and so depresion comes back! There is only one remedy, deal with it completely and forever to remove that from within!

I am pretty sure that it can happen. I think it is called situational depression. I don't know if it can be treated. Maybe something might be able to be given. Wait I should have said treated with medication. Any time that you are feeling down you can talk to a therapist or something. It never hurts to have someone to talk to.

Not only can depression be brought on by an event but it can also be brought on by a season. Depending on the severity of the symptoms being experienced, your course of action could be, trying to "deal with it" like I did for so many years, medication, therapy, medication and therapy. It also depends on the person. Although I have to say that the most annoying thing I have come across is when someone says: "If you just tell yourself you aren't sad anymore everything will be fine and you won't be depressed anymore". I went an entire year without showing a single symptom of depression. Unfortunately something tragic happened and now I am twice as bad as I was before that event. Now the doctor tends to tell me that I am severely depressed. Anyway, to answer your question, should it be treated. Normally if you are wondering if it should be treated means that you have noticed that it is affecting your every day life (as mine does regularly). Which is normally a good time to atleast visit a mental health professional and get a doctors opinion. I would say that you could visit your normal doctor (that you go to for checkups and when you are sick) but some of those doctors tend to misdiagnois depression and try to find a physical reason for the problem and it could take years of their trial and error to find out that you should have been receiving mental health services long ago. (which is something my doctor did-I no longer go to that doctor) Hopefully this answer was of some use to you, I know that I tend to ramble and sometimes I don't make much sense. :)

Well, sometimes its unavoidable that we feel depressed for the day..but for the health its not a good side, i believe in Meditation which will balance our mind and helps to be normal at situations
