In the city close to us a school was put on lockdown. An 18 year old boy went into the office with a knife making threats. Everything is ok. They tazored the guy and got the knife away from him. It is so crazy!!! I think the news just gives people ideas.

I think so too, and it is very worrisome, I don't even like to watch or hear the news because sometimes it all seems bad, I would like to hear of people doing good things and making their end of the world better not worse. It is a sad world we live in at times.

When I was 35 weeks pregnant, and teaching fulltime, the school I was in had to go into lockdown. A gunman was nearby in the area shooting. It was a bit freaky for a while. The kids had been due to go home, so didn't appreciate being locked in the classrooms. We could hear the POlice helicopter flying around. Eventually, this idiot was caught, & the gang of parents out the front were allowed to collect their kids. You story brought it all back to me.

Fox news predicted there would be a rash of copycat incidents the day of the VT shootings. It's sick.

I agree about the news giving people ideas but if they didn't report on such things, people would get upset. I think they spend way too much time on these events and I will admit that I sat there for hours myself, just watching in disbelief. But in some people it might trigger a copycat response. But on the other hand, so much publicity might make people more aware of what to look for in the future. Its really a "darned if you do and darned if you don't" type situation.

I have thought this for some time, I know it's news and important for people to know what is going on but I also believe that it is covered too much and it gives others ideas when they see it over and over. I'm so thankful that everything is ok at the school near you.

They shouldn't give these incidents so much publicity. It makes celebrities of these very disturbed people. Any of them with an agenda to push is sure to have easy access to to being a media star.

I really wonder what's going on with these people! Are these people/kids just so stressed and out of their minds they think murder is the answer??? I was watching a show the other night about the Virginia Tech killings and a guy they interviewed said the way the media is covering these school shootings is glorifying it. He said the way they're reporting the VT killings is a record number of people killed, most people ever killed in history, etc. It makes it sound like a record another person needs to "break". I agree. The media hype is disturbing in itself. It's like the more bloody something is, the more they have to elaborate on it. I can't stand it. I end up changing the channel or turning the tv off. I think it does give people ideas too.

I think so too! I also think that about 30% of people in this world have GONE CRAZY! Or atleast temporarily lost their minds! I'm about ready to jerk my kids out of school at this rate....seems like something happens everyday :-(

I agree. They give this thing too much attention. It's on every news channel. It's both a bad and a good thing like the person above said. But still they shouldn't focus on this too much. You don't know to what extend people will do for publicity. I can't believe someone would shoot innocent people like that. That guy must be very angry. Poor kid.

I guess it's a copycat to what has recently happened in Va. Tech School. I really do not see why there are such kind of people that likes to copy anything that happens controversially. People nowadays have such a mixed personality already that there are really those that think adversely against society's norm. The world is indeed evolving slowly and some people could not just adjsut to it that is why they resort to violent means so he could be recognized by society.
