I had posted a thread about eating when stressed weeks ago. I was amazed to see that a lot of responders resorted to eating chocolates whenever they are under the blues or just dead beaten after a long hard day. Some might say chocolate is their best friend. Because of this, chocolate may very well earned the reputation as a stress reliever. I may be one of those miniscule group of people who was not addicted to chocolate. My gustatory senses is not keened on eating sweets. I may indulged myself a little bar of chocolates from time to time. But I was never addicted to it. My questions are: Are you addicted or obsessed to eating chocolate? Do you think putting those sinfully sweets into your bodily system helps relieved your stress? Do you always buy a stack full of chocolates? Do you loathe eating chocolate? Or...or...or... Do share your thoughts.

I don't always eat chocolate whenever I'm stressed, but every once in awhile, I do get a really bad chocolate craving for some reason. I try to avoid eating too much of it all at once, but it is hard sometimes!

For some reason, others claimed that chocolate can lowered our stress level. Try to grab some healthy stuff instead of chocolate. :)

I'm not particularly fond of chocolate. It definitely isn't my stress reliever. Actually I don't think I even have a food item for that. Once in awhile I will get a craving for Tootsie Rolls and eat a bag or two in a relatively short amount of time but that's rare. I do like chocolate ice cream on occasion. Those are the only chocolate things I can think of though. It's just not a big attraction to me either. Do I think it is a stress reliever for other people? Maybe, I'm not decided on that. I think it does contain "feel good" chemicals, but I wonder if it's really more of a placebo effect situation. It's a common thought that chocolate makes us feel better so when we're down we eat chocolate and we feel better because we BELIEVED we would. Just a thought of mine anyway. Maybe actual chocolate lovers know how it works. I just remembered I drink hot cocoa a lot. I don't count that as "chocolate" though since really it's just chocolate flavored hot milk.

Very well said, foxyfire, there must be something in the chocolate that's making people crave for more. Thanks for the nice input. :)

I do love chocolate, but don't often crave it. I do find it to be a comfort food at times, but more forr my friends than me. Here is a link to an article expalining why chocolate might have this affect on people. http://panicdisorder.about.com/cs/shfitness/a/chocolate.htm

I love chocolates especially the dark one, eben though i am not obsessed or addicted towards it but still i enjoy having chocolate every now and than, for me its a pure source of energy and taste not a stress reliever, i dont buy it in bulk just few every now and than to keep the taste last for the time being.

Well as most of my friends know i stay on a weight watchers diet,so I try never to eat under stress..I do like chocolate very much, but the fat content is high,so i do not eat it just off the counter. They have weight watchers candy,it is chocolate and it is very good, and it only has one point to each piece,so when I get to craving chocolate I grab a bag of those and eat 2 or 3 and that satisfys my cravings...

I am a chocolate lover and it is a comfort food for me. It is very seldom that I don't have chocolate of some sort or another in the house. I do have to be careful of not over doing it for weight reasons but when I am upset or stressed no food helps me get in a better mood than chocolate. They have actually done studies on it and there is a chemical in chocolate that effects the brain - I won't be able to remember it now though, I haven't had any chocolate today :(

chocolates exclusively for faith - A heart box of chocolates for faith to liven up her moods.
Two responders here said eating chocolate can elevate our endorphins and seratonin (I need to check on this two) which help in lowering our stress. When I'm under a lot of stress, I can't eat anything at all. Now, don't go on feeling sad there. I'll give you a hearty box of chocolates to liven you up. Hope you like it. :P

I don't hate it... don' t love it either. I enjoy chocolate occasionally but it's not something I crave. I do admit that sometimes I eat a bit more when I'm stressed but I will probably crave a steak, not chocolate:) I hear a lot about comfort foods, and they always seem to have a relation with sweets. In my case, however, when I think of comfort foods, I think about a nice warm soup or a nice rare steak :) CHocolate? Sometimes, but not a first choice.

Wow, I also love to eat steak. I rarely got the chance to pig out on one though. I don't turn to chocolate for comfort food but something sour. :)

I am not addicted to chocolate as well i don't eat them very often. I eat chocolates occasionally on some ones birthday or if some one offers me. i never buy a chocolate for myself. I like the chocolates which my brother brought from the United States of America. I like them cause of the heavy chocolate content and milk contents in it.

i am not addicted to chocolate.. but i do have friends that actually so addicted to chocolate.. they can eat lots lots packet of it.. they say it's delicious.. and .. some even say chocolate make someone happy.. because it's sweet .. but what i know is that chocolate produces alot of energy for us.. more advisable to eat if you're using alot of energy due to certain activities.. like jungle trekking.. mountain hiking and so on... nowadays they put colourings in chocolate.. and it's not really safe to consume large amount of it.. so.. do beware.. chocolate with banana.. nice! :)

Chocolate with banana? You must mean chocolate with banana flavor. Some responders are saying that chocolates indeed can help eased away our tension.

I love and hate chocolate. Love it because the taste gives me instant satisfaction and it lures me to eat more, so I can finish a big bar of chocolate in a day. Then here's where the trouble begins - I'll get headache, neckache, and sleepy. I found out that the sugars and fats in it causes unnecessarily immune response like allergy. So I don't see eating chocolate as a form of reducing stress, but in fact it'll add on more stress! No I'm not addicted to it as I know when to stop. I know the manufacturers will promote dark chocolates as healthier choice but the sugars and other edible artificial chemicals in it overwhelm the benefits of the dark chocolate itself.

You may have lactose intolerance, naka. All the chocolates have milk content which is responsible for causing the allergic reaction. You might like to check your sugar level and uric acid too. It can be another detrimental factor for the discomfort you're feeling.

Yes I do love eating chocolates that is why I hardly ever have them in the house. I could sit and eat them till they are gone. It is easy to get addicted to them too. I love sweets so don't buy them or have them in the house at all.

BOTH. I love what it can do to my taste buds but I hate what it can do to my body. I wanted so much to eat chocolate but guilt hinders me from doing so. I just love chocolates, ahh! yummy, yet sinfully yummy, I don't wanna get fatter and fatter just to satisfy my cravings. Then, I would have say, yes, I use my problems as excuse to eat and pig out on chocolates. But now, I realized I'm deceiving myself. So I'm finally over with the habit...
