Snakes and Ladders - Life is like a game of Snakes and Ladders

You can forget the old adage from the film Life is like a box of chocolate, is it eck? Well I reckon I get all the mouldy coffee creams lol!Seriously I sometimes wonder if life is one big game, like you are on a gigantic snakes and ladders board. Everyone striving to reach the top, some of us are lucky and we get all the ladders to get to the top, others like my good self keep finding the pythons and are forever slipping back to square one again! No matter how the dice may fall you always end up slipping down again, you want to reach those ladders but can never make them! How do you change the rules of the game? What do you reckon, life is a game, are you findin the ladders or the snakes? Or is life a game of chess where strategy is the best game plan or monopoly. What is your prospetive of life?

Perhaps your ladders are to high. We also have to look everything in positive ways. For instance, when I came to France I told my family that we had to think that I would be two hours away of Portugal instead of thinking we were 2000 km away. Of couse there are bad periods in life, but can't we learn from them? and so think that we got something positive of that situation. We can't look only to the bad things, we have to look to the positive things that perhaps are more important for us to grow inside. :)

I think life is like monopoly, where the rich hog all the good stuff and the poor get to live in the sewers. I think even if rich people are miserable in other areas they have a lot of monetary stuff and they can pay bills and afford medical. The poor people can be happy with a simple life. But its not going to make them happy if they cant pay their bills and no medical to keep them happy. So In the end the poor people get put in the hospitals with no money to pay and they die lonely, sick and penniless. OK may be thats not monopoly but If it life were a game thats as close as i could think of. I guess when you are poor like me all your life, its hard to think of life any other way.

this is a very profound insight about life. but it is one reality that we have to live with. we can always say that we can be happy though poor but, please not in poverty. a person who leads a miserable life can never be happy.

Well I have had plenty of crap served on my plate, excuse my poetry Wolfie, but I have decided as inventive and stubborn that I am to use the crap , turn it into manure and make lots of things grow. That is my Philosophy in a nutshell lol. Whatever we have, we have to make the best of it. If I can do that, then the possibilities my friend are endless. So , If I get a snake, I will sort it out and make it my pet lol and it will not bite me any more..

one moment I think life is a game then in the next moment Life reminds me that it isn't a game with a hard slap in the face. even if you could change the rules of the game it wouldn't help cos life never plays fair! my 'strategy' is to make mistakes, learn lessons and when it gets to tough, get help off my friends! If all you've encoutered is pythons then don't worry because your luck will change!! If life was like chess and you had to bide your time, it would be sooo boring!! I'm with John Lennon on life "life happens while your busy making other plans" ;)

My philosophy is that life is like a roller-coaster (similar to snakes and ladders), one minute you are up and then you are down. This is the way it is in this world of opposites. When you are going down in a roller coaster, if you put the brakes on, you will slow yourself down, making it a little harder to climb back up the other side. So I tend to let it all happen... up....down....up.... down. Enjoy the ride, it's not advisable to get off! :-)

Well, sometimes its unavoidable that we feel depressed for the day..but for the health its not a good side, i believe in Meditation which will balance our mind and helps to be normal at situations

I think that your personal philosophy and perspective has a great deal to do with the way life treats you. Personally, I try not to cause any un-necessary trouble for my self or anybody else, or help people out if I can. That keeps me 'in the black' with karma type stuff. I generally don't create any trouble for myself and find that not too much comes my way. The crucial thing to remember, and it's another 'quote' from the same movie you mention, is that "Sh!t Happens". Life will always give you a slap out of the blue, I think it;s just to keep us all on our toes! Deal with these as best you can and move on. Take the smaller things with the same grace as the bigger things. This way you realise that although that important thing went belly-up, those ten little things worked pretty well. The only thing you should remember to 'control' is your own actions. Take note: It's only human, and completely natural to f**k up. Wise people just don't f**k up the same way twice. Regards mate. It'll be looking brighter before you know it!

Wolfie it's time to put your happy pants and have a renewed outlook on life. Maybe try getting a copy of "The Secret" a very good book on life recommened by Oprah. I like to read her books from her book club, but this particular book got an entire show devoted to it. What it basically says is what you "put out there" is what you get back.

I agree today at work the bosses niece started stright out of school and hey she is starting at the top not because she has any skills she spent an hour doing her nails had a 2 hour lunch break and doesn't do computers lol anyway i was told to show her the ropes but the truth is she knows less than my 12 year old i have really tried, the boss says to me you must teach her but she doesn't want to know, now i'm sure i will get the blame but hey i will never get to the top of the ladder when it comes to favouritism i'm the one who works hard all day while my boss plays golf he will ask me tomorrow how she's done lol I can feel myself slipping down the snake as we speak1 Changing the rules it this instant is impossible i am in a no win situation oh i will keep my job i'm good at it but he won't like my report of her day tomorrow but i'm going to say it as it is no excuses just the plain facts!

Very well said, wolfie. Life is indeed a series of games and you need to know all the basic rules and tricks in order to reach the finish line. I used to be the snakes and ladders thing. I kept striving for the top and yet too many intruders are pushing me back to the front line. I decided to quit playing that kind of game and move to chess. I like to compare my life to chess. You don't just let anyone kept pushing you back this time. But you need your brain and wits to think of better ways to attack those enemies. There is still the danger of making the wrong decision whichever way you like to go, but in the end, you will also reach the top. There is really nothing easy about facing all the struggles and frustrations in life. If someone decide to play a prank on you, then its time to start playing your own game too.

Hi Wolfie! Life is so full of ups and downs. And yes, there is always a struggle to reach the top. I think the best strategy, is to set the rules. I mean, be the master of your own destiny. Don't wait for things to happen, but make them happen. I have tried to implent those guidelines in my life. I may not be always successful, but it was worth trying. Have a great day! (^^,)

While I have had my share of snakes...LOL I believe that at this point in my life, I have reached the top of my ladder.....I have a wonerful family, a nice home....a few good friends....in short....life is good. I think that we make small decisions daily that may make a huge impact on our lifes and we never actually think abour them....for example; have you ever went shopping at a new store just to meet a person who forever will play a major part in your life???? The people that we touch in our life every day may make a dramatic change in their life and we may not even know how or why.... I try to go through life....not causing any harm to anybody else and just doing my own thing.....I seek the same things that most do....happiness, purpose, and love....I set goals for myself and work towards reaching them...sometimes those goals change....but then LIFE CHANGES EVERY MINUTE to some extinct!

For me, life is a combination of both games. As much as i would like to have the best strategy in life to really win or to be successful if there are unavoidable circumstances that happen in my life, then i don't have the control of it. I will start all over again with that same goal in my life, to be successful and to win all the battles in my life.

I believe that it is a combination of luck and judgement. Those who are honest and do whats right may seem to have it harder at times. We do not cheat our way to the top or sleep our way to the top. I do believe that the opportunities will knock on all of our doors just at different times.I also believe that god has a plan for us and there are reasons for them.

yeah, i agree with you that life is really more like snakes and ladders. this is the reason why we get so happy at every little accomplishment that we manage to come out with. then, we celebrate at our big leaps in life because, it is not common nor is it something of the ordinary. as for chess, there are some of us who are good at making strategies and mapping out plans. but not all can do this pretty well. the snakes and ladders is more like it for most of us.

yes.. exactly.. you just get to the point.. i didn't notice life was like a game.. until you suddenly mention about snakes and ladders.. it's true.. many people strive hard to get to the top.. but not many were lucky.. and i guess.. the lucky ones should thank god for giving them a chance.. while many were stuck in the middle of the game.. there are some that give up. .and some refuse.. keep rolling the dice.. hoping to step on the ladders.. and get to the top too.. i'm sure i'm one of the one that refuse to give up.. i've been rolling the dice since years ago.. and i think i will continue rolling.. as long as i'm still alive =)
