Well your friend is right, backpacker is fun. I've been travelling as a backpacker with friends, not abroad just inside my country because it is still so many interesting place to see..It's fun because you have to think of having fun with as litle money as you can and you'll meet so many new friend because you need to know the best cheap place in that area and therefore you make friends with the local. Well if it is happen you are going to travel as a backpacker to Bali, meet me and I will show you how you can have so much fun in Bali with litle money...FYI I live in Bali... cheers!!!

I haven't done it, and I doubt I will, it usually takes a lot of time. However, I've read about people who have done it and they have been very satisfied with the experience. If I ever get rich I'll probably do it.:)

When I was in my 20s, 2 friends and I traveled by backpack through Europe for 3 months (I'm from the US). We stayed in youth hostels and pensiones. It was great. We met so many people from all around the world, went to all these different countries, saw so many sites, and did it all very cheaply. I've known people who have traveled by backpack for a year or more, crossing continents. A lot of Australians used to take a year off and just travel. You'd always meet them on the road in Europe. Those memories of traveling when I was young are some of my best! As you get older, you want all the comfort, so I am glad that I traveled like this when I was young and didn't have a care in the world.

Yes, I love travelling as a backpacker. It is very cheap to stay in hostels and travel on buses and trains. The first time I did it was when I went round Europe aged 18. I visited the beautiful cities and countryside in Scandinavia and got as far as interesting Hungary before going home. The next year I went to see more of the snowy cities of Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Then another year I went around the world, stopping off in wildlife full Australia, on a working holiday. Years after this I backpacked via exciting Hong Kong and shoppers dream Singapore to natural looking New Zealand. When I next go backpacking I'd like to see Southern Africa. It would be so wonderful to fly into Cape Town and travel up to the powerful spray of the Victoria Falls waterfall. South Africa has a good system of trains routes. There is a steam train along the Garden Route that I'd like to ride on. When I am backpacking I enjoy meeting travellers from all over the world. It is a very interesting to talk to them.

I have been camping for 9 days!! That is about the most I have been "back-packing" through the world!! I have always admired people who do take on this challenge because I am sure that they learn tons about themselves as well as whatever destination they are at. I'm a city girl so I like hotels too! Good luck should you decide to join your friend next time..which I think you should..we only live once and it sucks to live with regret!!
