Check this out---it works just super--and pass this on to anyone who likes sitting out in the evening or when they're having a cook out. So you don't like those pesky mosquitoes, especially now that they have the potential to carry the West Nile Virus? Here's a tip that was given at a recent gardening forum. Put some water in a white dinner plate and add a couple drops of Lemon Fresh Joy dish detergent. Set the dish on your porch, patio, or other outdoor area. Not sure what attracts them, the lemon smell, the white plate color, or what, but mosquitoes flock to it, and drop dead shortly after drinking the Lemon Fresh Joy/water mixture, and usually within about 10 feet of the plate. May seem trivial, but it may help control mosquitoes around your home, especially in the South and elsewhere where the West Nile virus is reaching epidemic proportion s in mosquitoes, birds, and humans. I have not tried it here in Portugal mainly because we do not have a mosquito problem here in the apartment. I might add that if Joy lemon detergent is not available where you are I would assume that any lemon dishwashing detergent such as Fairy, would do the trick.

Thank you for the great tip. I will give this a try. We get eaten alive when the sun begins to set. Anything is worth giving a try.

Your welcome elusive. Sorry it's taken so long to respond but I have complications here at home. See my post of today. I hope you have had success and that you are no longer being eaten alive. Fortunately we have very few mosquitos here in the apartment. Always nice to see you.

This sounds like an idea worth trying. I have this spray stuff you water the area you want to get rid of them. It works but there are always some strays.

You won't know unless you try it that's for sure. However, what is the "spray stuff" that you use? Perhaps others would like to experiment if it works for you. Always nice to see you cool. +

Thank you for the tip gifana. It's really helpful for me since I get eaten alive each summer. The whole family can be gathered in the back yard. Some even wearing perfumes and colors that are known to attract those pesky things, but guess who gets all the mosquito bites???? Me of course. Trying it out for sure.

thanks for the great tip. Here in New Jersey, at the coast the mosquitoes are a big problem, especially since the budget cuts on the mosquito control program. Its serious here. I'll be using the Lemon Joy white plate trick, and let you know for sure if it works well.

Glad you liked it. I know what you mean....I used to live near the Kennebec River and Lake Messalonske in Maine and we had terrible mosquito problems... I think anyone who has the problem or who is interested will be waiting with bated breath to see what your results are. If it does I think that there will be a lot of grateful people who received this message that I have passed on. Thanks so much for dropping by and for your input. +
