Why is it ok for men to gawk at women, but not for women to gawk at men?

I have never had a relationship where my man didn't have wandering eyes. It seems men are always checking out other women. Often they are gawking and not listening to a word their woman says. Men in a group will group gawk. I was once in a restaurant with some guy friends, and a woman at another table was breast feeding and my friends all laughed with each other and made rude comments that embarrassed me. However, if a woman looks at another man is "caught" the way we catch our men doing all the time, isn't she (aren't you) often scolded or ridiculed or called a wh-- or some other sweet word? Men will be men... so they are a more physical being?? I don't know why a woman can't express her desire, likes, and s*xuality too.

I don't think it is ok for men to look at other girls. I think it's such a pathetic act. You have your girlfriend, your loved one! Why would you be looking to other women? Unless, of course, if the man is with his friends. Then, he is kind of obligated to look, otherwise his friends will call him "gay". Other than that, I don't think men should look at other women. Nor women should look at other men.

LMAO....don't you ask... "Any uv y'all fellas need to go to the min's room wit me?" There is often a line to the ladies room but not in the men's. I have seen cases where women took advantage of the fact there was no line at the men's room. Heck, we all use the same potty at home???

hahahaha...that's funny - herd instinct - hehehehe...it's true, though. men are very herd-like. but so are women! why would they go in groups to the bathroom? i wonder - do women consider other women "gay" if they don't go the bathroom with the rest of the group? :p

Men think they can have their wives or girlfriends on one arm, and drool over the passing beauties from the other side. They are so indiscreet when they do it, it's not even funny. My hubby doesn't really do that, but the two times he did, i wanted to slap his silly head back in the right position, meaning towards me, listening to me! My friend's hubby will literally turn around to follow his object of lust, and my friend is just so hurt by that. They don't realize that it makes us feel unattractive and not sexy. Us women do it too, but we are indiscreet, and our partners don't even realize that we were checking out the waiter's butt LOL

Everyone looks at other people but "gawking" at someone is different. I won't stand for a man doing that but sure he can look just as I can look at other men. I'm never scolded, ridiculed or called a wh*re for doing it - LOL I'd like to see someone try!! When I was younger though I was probably different - now I'm older I don't care about behaving "appropriately".

Some would say that the ability and desire to behave appropriately is part of "maturity". I can see you and I think alike. LOL.

Double standard, kbkbooks. I think there's a separate set of rules for men and women and sometimes it's unfair for us.

I imagine there are times men think there are rules for women that are unfair for men. Women can pretty much hug anyone they want in greeting. Men do that, and women flip out.

It's a question of the ages... We may never know the answer.

You have a point there, kbkbooks. But who sets the rules anyway? And why should there be activities that only men or only women can do without raising eyebrows? Finding answers to these questions can give someone a big headache. See yah!

Andrew Dice Clay said it best in one of his routines. "how come a guy can sleep with a hundred girls and its ok, but if a girl does it she's a wh*re? Right. Guys have no guilt". Guys don't worry about that kind of stuff. Also, guys are controlling and possessive by nature, so it's ok for them to look, but if the girlfriends do it, we're planning to cheat or something. Heaven forbid we make an off-handed comment.

This is very true. Many men expect us to be virginal when we marry them, yet they want to sow their wild oats with every Jane, Trixie, and Mary. If they do that, how are there supposed to be any virgins left?

I don't think its alright. They just earned the label "player". Ever girl should avoid him unless they are players too.

There are women out there who are players. They just have a not so nice name for them when they are women.

I was fully developed very early in life (12) and was blessed (?) with an impressive chest...I spent alot of years having men speak to my chest rather than to me. It was extremely annoying and rude. When I was 13 a friend gave me a t-shirt that said "Take a picture, it lasts longer"...I loved that shirt. I don't know why guys are like that. I guess they think it makes them macho or something. I like to think that women have more sense then men at times. LIVE IN PEACE

I wondered that too, it should be okay for men and women to eye each other.

I would love to be able to look freely. I don't see why it isn't fair to be reciprocal. As soon as hubby sees me looking, he feels inferior, which is really his problem right. But when he sees a woman he finds attractive he invarioably has to make a semi rude to rude comment.

Well... You have raised a very good point... I agree with you that men are always glaring at women which leaves them being embarrased. A glance seems quite natural between two human beings but men just start staring at them...

I had this one friend who would go all glassy eyed when he looked at women. Then when someone made a comment to him about ht, he would wonder how they knew. If only we could have had a polaroid of his face, he would have understood.

Ha ha ha, I will not have this in my relationship. If he can look so can I and this has resulted in him not looking when I am there atleast. I have explained to him though that I do not mind him looking at others coz I really dont as long as he is just looking. I will also see attractive men outside but that does not mean that I will cheat =)

Perhaps our society permits man to play the active part and that’s why man always takes the move to gawk at women and not the other way round as long as he has no other bad intentions. The women might enjoy been gawked as they think themselves are attractive enough lol. I do disagree with any men who try to ridicule a woman with rude comments. My hubby and I do make positive comments on men or women who deserved to be gawked lol.

I think women look just as much as men they are just not so obvious about it. I know if I see a goodlooking man I am going to have a good look.

OK I know I look sometimes- Its pretty normal to look. I see nothing wrong with it- as long as you don’t stare or touch! It does bother me when people are staring at me- I usually give a look back! Ok so more of a glare! I’ve never been called any names when I’ve been caught looking at men. I would go with the “women who sleep with more than 1 man” are called names and men can sleep with whomever- but I don’t see the looking part.

I don't know if you're married or not. It makes a big difference how men behave after they are married or really committed to a woman. Suddenly their eyes are everywhere. It's true tho that there is a double standard about s*xual partners.

Who said it isn't ok to gawk at men? I don't sit with my mouth anging open, but I think it is perfectly fine to have a look. As long as you aren't drooling or appearing predatory.
