I know some mylotters couldnt be bothered about what star rating they get but some do find it as a motivation when their star goes up and up. With all the discussions, comments and complaints about star rating, do you think star rating has a positve or negative impact to mylot community? Does it encourage or discourage you when your your star rating decrease or increase?

I don't make my responses based on trying to get a higher star rating or worrying about it going down. But I admit that I get encouraged when it does go up. The thing with the stars is that one bitter, angry person could decide they wanted someone's star rating to go down and it would only take about 30 minutes of their time to make it happen. I wont let myself get discouraged when it goes down.

That's what I think as well. It's possible and it could be jealousy or something silly like having a different opinion. That's will not be discouraged. In the end, all that matters is that I make friends with people, enjoy myself and hopefully the friends I make will enjoy chatting with me, and we make some extra money together as well. Kind regards. :)

The star rating does not bother me. As I do not pay attention to what color or number is on it. Maybe I should. But with so many members who select a negative because they don't agree with what you posted. I am not going to pay any attention to it. I know I have a different opinion on many subjects with the diversity group we have on my lot. I also have several people on my friends list that I sahre different opinions from. But I never give them a negative to make their star go down. To me that is plain childish. I say what goes around will one day come around.

Hi emarie, I heard about that too. But I think the earning is always based on the activity level. The more acceptable and quality responses/discussions we post, the earning get better. Thanks for your response.

I get motivated upon getting the best response. I am not worried about the star rating, as it directly dependant on members, and their rating will not affect my earnings or reputation.

Hello.ellie,I will try to keep a good rating but i will not put too much concern about it,i understand that the rating will be flutucated everyday as it depends on how other users rate me. I think it may be better to remove the star and rating feature as sometimes it may be misleading, for me ,i will not care about other members's rating, sometimes, low rating members do not get much replies becasue people do not want to reply to ones with low rating, but they may have low rating because they have been inactive for long time but they get good quality replies.

I don't really bother about my star ratings in mylot, if you were posting quite decent and useful informative posts here in mylot, you will automatically earn your star from the fellow users in mylot, so concentrate hard on what you dicuss rather than worrying about stars and ratings.

Yes, that what I have been doing for the past two weeks after my star rating gone down from 10 to 9. I think most of them also working hard to post quality discussions and responses. It is not worring but wondering why after all the hardwork?

I like my blue star! I worked to earn that good rating. I try to give good responses and start good discussions. I think the star rating is an incentive to do good posts and responses. I find it encouraging when I see my rating increase!

I just dont get it, why do people like to give a "-" ratings? I mean when a member cannot or find no interest in the discussion, they can just find another. Sometimes I think it is intentional. Hopefully they can be more open minded and be more understanding. Thanks for your response.

No Ive come to learn thats not that important to me. And mylot just does that so we will try harder on here to make our star go up. But come on we all know that its just a silly star with a color and number on it. I hope soon they will get rid of them.

Sure it's nice to have a high rating as it shows you that others in MyLot land value your opinions and discussions. However, I think far too many people make a big thing out it really.

Hi recycledgoth, you are right. Look what happened when there was a glitch yesterday and everybody got "demoted", there was a huge complaints. It only shows that star rating has negative and positive impact to every members.

Nah mine has gone from 10 to a 9 to back to a 10 back to a 9 so many times I dont even know. I don't care though, whatever it is, it is. It's not like I can do anything about it anyways! I dont feel encouraged or discouraged if it goes up or down.

Yes, that should be the way. If everyone think as you do, I think there wont be anyone complaining about star rating and we will have more good discussions about other thing too. Thanks for your response.

Not really, because I suspect that if people are deliberately being negative they would bring it down anyway. I try to help others get a high star rating, but I am not really concerned about it myself all that much. It's nice, but it is not important. I think myLot would be better without it really.

Yeah, it is better if we just dont really be bothered about it. It wont do us any good to even talk about star ratings. But after the glitches yesterday, I can say that most of the members do care about their star rating. Thanks for your response.

Hi DreamTwist, you are new. I like to welcome you to mylot. You will get your star when you reached 100 posts. Keep on posting so when you are entitled for a star, you might just get a blue star for a start. Thanks for your response.

No stars rating cannot be a seriuos rating because it counts only the daily activity and not the discussions quality! I think it is simply a nonsense!

Hi ELLIE, previously i used to be very much serious with star ratings. to start with i was at 9, worked on it and reached to 10 at one point and then again demoted 9. the 10 gave me an instant boost and the subsequent fall from 97 to 89, in a single day, was really demotivating. when i asked mylot, i got a reply that the negative rating is the culprit!! as of now, i am less bothered about the star ratings. i mean, i cannot be demotivated and down for the whims of some users!! how the my quality of input here could be judged by the users here!! so, nowadays, i am not that much concerned with it, however, i would like see the blue star against mine. its certainly a feel good factor. good luck!!

To tell the truth I don't care much about my star rating. At this moment it is 90/100 and I'm happy because this means that myLotters esteem me and the messages I send to them and to the forum. I sometimes happen to notice that my star rating goes down, but there are no problems, this doesn't discourage me. And yet I think that the star rating tends to encourage or discourage myLotters.

in a way the star rating gives you the idea how active you are in mylot. it also motivates you to participate more and share your thoughts with others. what matters most here is not really the star rating we get but the friendship we gained and the knowledge we shared. the earnings we accumulate are but bonuses.

Hi there, yes it does show our perfomance. It is something like an indicater. If our activities in mylot slow down, our star rating get affected. So, I guess the star rating is a motivater for us to perform better and regularly. Thanks for your response.
