Has anyone given away their pet for adoption?

i have come across many incidents where pet owners neglect their responsibility towards their pets. Having a pet is a lifelong commitment..why do ppl tend to give them or worst of all sell them away? Will they do it if this is their child their own flesh and blood? Yes remember to treat our pets like our child so we wont have the tot to sell or send them away. if we cant commit then dont evr think of keeping a pet.

pet puppy - my pet puppy. still 2 months old.
i have lots of pets and i never even thought of sending anyone of them away from me. they aren't just animals in our yard and in our house. they are part of the family. i take care of them, play with them, feed them. and there's no way for me to just let them go. i love my pets and they love me back... that's why there is a kind of bond between us that people might not understand but will never be broken... anne

Oh honey, I have asked the exact question. These people are selfish and immature. They only care for themselves, not the poor animals feelings. They have no right to own animals. They buy them without reading and asking questions what is involved. I wish these people could be owned by animals, so they would know what it feels like to be yelled at and given away because they cannot conform to another breeds ways.

I hate it when a pet owner neglects their pets. It is a commitment. They're not furniture. They need attention, walking, fed, to play, and regular vet visits. If a person cannot care for their pets for whatever reasons, I'm not against him/her selling or giving away the pet. Pets are different from animals, and while my pets are members of my family, I don't equate them with children. Giving away a pet doesn't mean the person is heartless. Maybe the person has to move across the country or the job entailed a lot of travel and almost no time at home. Perhaps the dog is too big for the house or lot and is unhappy being cooped up and would be happier on a farm. Or a stray cat is rescued, but the cat doesn't want to live inside a house. I'm speaking from personal experience. We were given a collie by a co-worker. It was unsafe to have my then toddlers playing in the yard when the dog was outside. He'd race from one end of the yard to the other, sometimes knocking down the kids. Then he started to run away. We found someone who had a farmette, and he took the dog. He's a lot happier than when he was with us. We also rescued a stray cat. We already had one cat, and those two fought all the time--drawing blood. My next door neighbor's mother took a shine to the cat, and we gave her to the woman. The woman was a retiree who lived alone. Both were much happier. The kitten thrived. In those cases, the animals were better off in another home.

haha. . how has this turned into an argument about souls? ridiculous. . The reason so many people end up giving up their pets is because they did not consider the actual responsibility of dog ownership. This is another reason why I hate pet stores. . . they're perpetuating this "impulse buy" and their only goal is to make a profit, not screen the potential owner for red flags. A lot of people see a dog, think its cute and then buy it totally disregarding the fact that this animal will live for a decade or longer and will require daily care as well as cost a LOT of money. Not unlike having a child. Albeit a small, fuzzy child that won't take care of you when you get old. Maybe people should start making a comparison of dogs to children. Maybe it would make people realize that this should never be a split second decision. You bring them home, they cry all night, eat, sleep and deficate in the wrong places. They get older and start destroying your house. They require food and exercise, proper hygeine, discipline and affection. I see a lot of similarities here. .

Thanks for this good point..impulse buy as u mentioned. Not doing a proper research when buying a pet..proper training and care is required from the owner..

I absolutely disagree with anyone that can claim animals don't have souls...besides, how could anyone actually know that. Animals deserve the best treatment they can be given if they are taken in as pets...I understand that hardship can sometimes mean change, but neglect is never ok. I haven't given any of my pets up for adoption, but if I couldn't take care of them anymore then I would seek to find someone that would take really good care of them.

Yes, i owned a flock of swarms and they were good when i had only a few of them, but when the number increased it became very difficult for me to handle them... luckily a person having a big farms came across and wanted to keep the swarms in his farms and i thought it would be the best place for them...

My friend had a friend who owns so many pet dogs and it came to a point that she cannot take care of all and she decided to give to my sister and let her adopt one of his dog. But she often think and ask about the situation of her pet. Maybe sometimes people need to do that on their pets but for a child is a different case of course.

I am not in favor of that idea. Personally, I love my pets so much and I take goo care of them. I have 11 cats and a dog. I enjoy their company and if I am sad or tired, I just seeing them brightens my day.
