I didn't even need to check that site, I know which ones are big, and one of them is getting yet another sequel. I was born is 1981 and that was the year Raiders of the Last Ark premiered with Harrison Ford and Sean Connery. Also playing that year was Chariots of Fire, a very inspiring true story that won the Oscar for Best Picture. I still hear the theme song in many movies and television shows. Thanks for the fun discussion!

Hi winterose, This is a lot of fun. In 1951, some of the movies playing were, The African Queen (have seen it, and enjoyed it), An American In Paris (never seen), A Christmas Carol (have seen many times, and I love it), Strangers on a Train (haven't seen, but I enjoy Hitchcock, so should check it out), and, A Streetcar Named Desire (have heard so much about this one, but haven't actually seen it.) Thanks winterose.

Hi, wintwrose you came out with yet another interesting excercise for us. I was born in 1949. I checked the list and saw the list of outstanding films released during the year. But unfortunately I have not seen any of them or have heard anything about them. From the awards won etc. I assume 'the third man' a thriller was the favorite among them. Anyway I am glad that John Steinbeck is your favorite writer. He is my favorite too. I have read some of his novels like The pearl, Grapes of Wrath, On Dubious Battle and Cup of Gold. I can never forget the grapes of wrath. Thank you winterose.

Without looking, I know The Empire Strikes Back was playing the year I was born. After I looked, I also saw a couple of other movies I recognized, including Coal Miner's Daughter, The Shining, and The Elephant Man. The year was of course 1980.

I checked mine and all 16 movies listed were not familiar to me. I don't have any idea what kind of films each movie. I'm not really a fanatic of old movies. More like the Spiderman and Harry Potter that will hyped my interest. Thanks for sharing this one, winterose.

I checked your list and here are the movies playing when I was born (1951): The African Queen Alice in Wonderland An American in Paris A Christmas Carol The Day the Earth Stood Still The Lavender Hill Mob A Place in the Sun Strangers on a Train Streetcar Named Desire The Thing (from Another World) And I've seen almost all of them. I love watching the American Movie Channel and most of these have been shown there. I really like watching some of the old 30's and 40's musicals as well. Of this list, I really can't say I have a favorite. The earliest movie I can remember seeing at the movie theater is "The Thing" which scared the beejeejees out of me. Since it came out in 1951, I'm now confused as I had to have been 10 when I went to the movies. So perhaps the later movie wasn't the same as the one listed above.

As far as I can remember, the most talked-about movie that time was the movie 'GHOST'. Lead by Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore.. I really cannot forget that one because my sister kept on talking about it. ;)
