and her daughter has a pet rat. The rat has decided it is jealous of the largest cat. It has gone up and bitten the cat on the nose. Yesterday, the rat did not like the cat sitting on my sister, and it went up to the cat, latched onto its fur and screeched and tried to shake the (VERY LARGE) cat. The cat ran away, because it did not want to be bit again. Funny!!!!!

I think at least one of the other cats would love to catch the rat and is waiting her time. I have had cats catch wild, large rats and bring them to me.

Rats are highly intelligent, and affectionate. It doesn't surprise me. People do not give animals enough credit for their emotions. They do get jealous.

That is funny! I would never own a pet rat, but it is funny to hear something like this!

That is precisely where I am. I want my rodents to be a little bigger, say a rabbit.

It always makes me laugh to read or hear of these amusing stories of the interaction between animals. Particularly different species, who would normally be enemies. I have never heard of a pet rat being jealous of a rat., It is extraordinary. I am amazed that the cat doesn't go after the rat. But then, when we first got our cockatiel quite often we would put his cahe on the kitchen table, just tyo give him a better view & different things to look at. My big fluffy cat was fascinated. She would go up to the cage & smooch it. Then lie down next to the cage, with her whiskers & long fur poking in through the wires. The cockatiel wasn't scared of the cat. He would pull it's whiskers. Yet, in the front yard, my naughty caqt catches birds.

I had a pet rabbit, and I could correct the cats and tell them to leave my bunny alone, but out doors they would catch all kinds of cotton tails. My silly bunny was not afraid and would not run, so that is why they would not attack him. The cat would come smell of the bunny, and the bunny would chew his whiskers. Of course if they were to attack that tame bunny, he would have slit them wide open with his sharp back claws.

Pet rat - This is a cream hooded rat, similar to one I used to have as a pet. They are very smart and make excellent pets.
I've had several pet rats so that doesn't suprise me in the least. They are a lot smarter than most people give them credit for! My first rat, what a sweetheart. I got her when I was working at a pet store where we kept a large supply of rats. I don't know what it was about this one rat but she kind of liked me and got kind of attached to her so the boss said I could take her home if I wanted to. Within a short period of time she knew her name and when I'd get home from work she'd meet me at my door, I'd put my foot out and she'd crawl all the way up and sit on my shoulder waiting for her treats of sunflower seeds. She slept with me most nights laying either across my neck or curled up next to my neck. Every morning at 7:00 she thought she was my alarm clock. She'd do anything she could to wake me up. She'd lick my nose or pull on my eyelashes. She was also litter trained so I never had to worry about cleaning up after her much. She was an adult when I got her so I didn't know how old she was. Unfortunately she only lived about a year. I sure got attached to her in that year. I miss her.

I hope some of the people who post after you read this, as some are doubting me. I would not care to have a rat, but I do not mind them having her. She is a big part of their lives.

That's really cute. My smallest cat would probably eat a rat if he saw one. He's a real hunter. My other two cats are too wussy to try and kill anything.
