Do you have words that you ALWAYS seem to spell wrong?

I just did it again, in one of my discussions. I know how to spell the word when I think about it...There are certain words that I always have to check on too. I always want to add an "e" when words end in "ous". I always want to add a second "L" or a second "S" in words. Are there any spelling errors that you continuously catch yourself making? Do you wish mylot had spellcheck?? I do!

Just yesterday, I was saying that I was going to visit Amazon.com to see how much the spell checkers were. I had one of my own a while back, but I gave it to my niece for school. I have a pocket book dictionary right next to me on my desk, but looking up the words is very time consuming and hard when you don't have much of a clue how it should be spelled. There are several words that I constantly have trouble spelling and I can not understand why. The other day, I watched the movie Akeelah and the bee and I learned how to spell "prestidigitation," right away. Maybe, because it is so fun to spell. It is really a good idea, but maybe they might not be able to do it, for whatever reason, at this point. I have actually never been to a website where they had a spell checker. Anyway, I am going now to check out Amazon.com. Thanks for reminding me. Good topic!!!

I do not use firefox as my internet browser and have no idea of what firefox is, as I have never heard of it.

I understand what you are saying, but sometimes a typo can take away from the point I am trying to make. I try to proof read, but I still miss a few sometimes. Once I start a discussion, it is hard to spell check from that point.

If I want to check a word. I just type it into e-mail or my word processing program and check it that way. I'm okay with the occassional typos in my posts.

I make lots of typos and spelling errors, although I am getting better now. Once you are at 500, you can type in a word processor, do a spell check, then cut and paste into mylot. But it won't work until you have 500 points.. :-)

Well, I passed 500. yipee! I still won't go to the trouble of typing entire discussions in the word processor first. I will use it to check a word here and there though. I do have a couple things that I've saved in my word processor that I might paste here in mylot. So, I will be glad for the ablility to cut and paste for that reason.

Congratulations on passing 500. I remember doing this and it made things a lot easier to be able to cut and paste.. :-)

lol I spell daughter wrong more often than I spell it right. It isn't that I don't know how to spell it. I just always weem to invert the h and the t. I make some of those mistakes too, "everyday" is another one. I think I just type to fast for my own good sometimes. Thanks again, for your response.

Yes there are some words I have to think about all the time ;Like the word Experience.I'm always adding an extra i or e where it doesn't belong and have to go back and correct .When I was younger I could spell anything ,But as age has creapt up the brain does doesn't seem to work like it should hate it! hate it! Spell check and a thesaurus would be a great addition to the site that way we elders wouldn't be taxing are brains so hard..hehe:-)

I always mix up expect and except. I don't even catch it usually. That's my biggest one though. I am sure I have lots more, but that is the one I know I do and just can't help.

When I was a newbie, I always have a lot of typos in my threads and responses. Eventually, I improved with the passing of times and have a spell check nicely installed in my PC. I can see right away if I have typos or not. As far as I'm concerned, there's no specific word/s that I constantly caught myself making the same typos.

Hi miamilady, How are you? Yes, I have certain words that I always have to check myself on and yes, I do wish I could use spell check on myLot. My words are believe, receive...I have always had problems with these words. I type them wrong and always check my spelling before sending anything. Also the ious words I check before sending...Good question! Take care...

I'm a stickler for details, maybe because I have my degree in English. One word I see that so many others cannot spell correctly is receive. It is everywhere.

I do promise I can read and write but if you look at my posts you would wonder... I do sometimes lol... I think it is because I type so fast and then am stupid ebcause I hit the submit button before checking it..... My commonest errors are ahve (have), tehre (there), ebacuse (because)ummm let me think there are all kinds of them... But I guess you get the point. I think it is because soem fingers are faster than others.

Yeah, that happens to me often too. There are some words that I know how to spell just fine, but my fingers just type the letters out in the wrong order. Sometimes I catch them before I hit send and sometimes I don't.

I know exactly what you mean. Some words like speical and business always look wrong to me. Some words I just spell wrong because I don't really think about it when I'm writing. I too wish mylot had spell check. Then I would feel the need to read over what I write. usually I don't even do that.

English is not my primary language. so it is not so unusual to spell words the wrong way-for a long time the word receive passes for recieve, scam for scum and I just cant spell misdemenour without a dictionary-am not even sure this one is right! Sure i wish there was a mylot spell check!

I was never a fantastic speller.. Not everybody notices all the mistakes people make until it is pointed out to them.. I have a pocket speller I keep next to the computer but that takes time in checking too, so sometimes I don't worry... Then there is other times where I type faster than my brain functions and I misspell... It would be much easier for all thoughif Mylot did have a spell check....

I have a hard time with all the "ie" words. I know the rule about i before e, except after "C" or soundes as "A", but sometimes I still mess it up.

There are so many words that I can't spell. English is such a hard language to learn. The word that I kept butchering was usual. I have to use it everytime I wanted to write about my favorite movie, Usual Suspects. So what I did was I looked it up and wrote it near my computer. I have my own cheat sheet.I was always a bad speller. In school I would carry a pocket dictionary.

Hello miamilady!:-) I have lots of words that I misspell and always do that and for this reason I am thankful to mylot who has provided copy paste facility after 500th posts. Even before that I used to write whole response in here, I would copy it and paste it in word and then would correct the errors manually. It always took a lot of time. Anyways, the words I normally always misspell are: Receive (recieve), understandable (understandbale), occasion (occassion), there (their and vice versa), privilege (previlage), cost (costed), beyond (beyong), experienced (experinced), reason (reson), acquaintances (acquiantances), would (wold) and there are many more. Having said that, I do have improved a lot over time as English is not my first language so the decreased number of errors gives me satisfaction and I hope to improve further:-)

Oh well,my common mistake of spelling is between "definitely"(Correct) and definatetly(wrong) ,"especially"(Correct) and "especialy"(Wrong). I check into the dictionary before i can make sure which right and wrong ..I constantly have the problem with the double LL or single L.I hope from this time onwards i will never make the same old mistake again..:)
