Where would you get your dog from?

If you were interested in buying a purebred dog, where would you get it from? A pet store, a breeder, a rescue organization, someone with puppies or something else? How much do you think a reasonable price is for a purebred dog? How much would you be willing to pay? I'm really curious.

I got my purebred male husky for a breeder for $100 and the female from a rescue organization for the same price including the first shots. I probably do not pay more than $100 or $125. My neighbor bought a brown poodle several years ago for $800 and the dog is not a show or stud or nothing like this, please I won't pay a lot of money for just a stay home dog. You can see my dogs'pictures in my profile, they are adorable and the best dogs!

i think you should buy a puppy from a breeder. becuase breeders know the right stuffs for they're dogs and they really take care of them so you wont have any health problem for the puppy you bought.

I would buy of a registered breeder. The same one that I have been buying off for many years. Purebreed prices vary to the different breeds.

We have a purebreed pekingese dog that we purchased from an animal hospital for $300. From what I understand that is pretty cheap but the love and enjoyment we have gotten from having him in our home is priceless. I would have paid triple that if I would have known this would be the case. I would never by from a pet store because of all the things that go on with the puppy mills etc. So for me if I was to purchase another dog it would be from the same animal hospital I purchased our dog from because you can tell just by walking in the door how much they truely love all the pets.

I would stay away from a pet store. Too many times they're too much associated with puppy mills. I would also stay away from "back yard breeders", people just in it for the money. The better breeders will show concern about their animals, and make sure they're going to good homes. Back yard breeders generally don't know what they're doing, and will breed If you're looking for a purebred for show, the only way to really go is with a breeder. If you just want a purebred for pet quality, I would first try the pound/shelter. I've seen lots of purebred dogs at pounds/shelters. As for price, it depends on what kind of dog it is. I personally am a fan of mutts from the pound :) I usually pay about 50. for a dog, and I really can't understand why some choose to pay 500.-1000. + for a dog, just to have a purebred. Just my opinion there.

My husband got our dog from a friend or was it my sister-in-law's mother. It seems we never had to buy a pet. My first dog someone gave my dad, the second dog, we got it from a friend. They were not purebreds so have no idea what one would cost. Since we never had to pay for our pets, I doubt I would pay anything.

Do not ever, ever, ever buy a dog from a pet store. I hope I made the clear. What type of dog are you looking for. I have 2 pure bred labs...cost 0. The black one was a stud for a guide dog organization. When he retired he became mine, the yellow one is his son, released for medical problems. Look into alternative ways to get dogs, you would be surprised what is out there.

No No.. it's not in regards to me. I was just asking where other people get their dogs. Any dogs I get are purebred registered show dogs, because that's my hobby so I don't really have any other choice other than going to a breeder.

If I was planning on showing or breeding a dog, I would go through a registered breeder. The price would depend on the breed and what I planned to do with the dog. BUT - I am just a pet owner of 3 happy, spoiled dachshunds! We got the first from a breeder (not registered) for $75 because my husband wanted a dachshund. The next one we got from a breeder for $350, although we never bred or showed her. Our latest we got from the SPCA!!!! We paid them $185 but that included all her shots, spaying, microchip, etc. I think from now on I will either go to the SPCA, the pound, or a rescue organization.

Either through breed rescue or through a breeder who HEALTH TESTS. People who breed dogs indiscriminately without so much as a hip clearance are the bane of my existence!!! It should not matter whether the dog you are breeding won best in show at Westminster and Crufts and has produced 5000 champions. . if he's got bad hips, elbows or thyroid I wouldn't come within 30 feet of any of those puppies. Genetic problems just add to the expense of the puppy. . Speaking of expenses I would expect to pay between $600 and $1200 bucks for a puppy.

I would buy a dog from a reknowned breeder, from a club that is internationally accepted and I would pay from 1500 dollars to 2000 dollars for a puppy in top condition with perfect pedigree.

I would suggest researching greyhound breeds if I were currently looking. Many greyhounds are put to sleep once they can no longer be raced and made money off of. BUT research is KEY, they need lots of love and exercise.

Yes, but Greyhounds aren't suited to everyone and everyone's situation.
