Do any of you NOT watch TV?

My husband and I recently bought a farm and moved to the country. There is no cable service, and we can't even get the local channels because we are down in a valley. We decided NOT to get satellite TV, and we haven't watched TV in over a month now. it's WONDERFUL! We get so much more done around the house, and don't get stuck watching junk on TV or commercials. Has anyone else given up TV watching?

I havent had a TV for the past 12 years....here in NZ, we refer to TV as "the idiot box" & that about describes it for me... I talk to people all over the world on my computer...I read 6-8 books a week...& I do crafts when I feel creative.. If I am desperate to see a documentary etc, I go visit with a TV owning friend...LOL On a similar note, have you ever noticed how TV dominates peoples lives? The whole room is arranged around the TV set...people lucky enough to have beautiful views, have their couches facing away from the view, to face a plastic box.... Vistors come, & have to shout their conversation over the sound of inane jingles... People enter a room, & the first thing they do is turn on the TV.... Saddddddddddddddddddd!!!

We used to have cable service where we live and we live in the country also. I do not like to watch much television anyway. I am so sick of the filth we see on television these days anyway. I would rather spend more time doing something constructive than to waist time make the rich movie stars richer. We do rent movies for my husband and daughter and we do have basic local channels on our television and that is good enough so I can see the news every now and then, but it is very depressing also.

I don't watch tv, I can certainly do without the sensationalism, and 4,000+ violent images per day. There's plenty of other ways to keep up with the world, without the brain-abuse called television.

Wow... this is really something! I could not imagine myself without a television, because I will watch t.v. everyday at night. It is my way of relaxing, after a hard day work. But yeah, to think about it again, maybe if I don't watch t.v. but have other things to entertain me, why not? I bet your farm is a lovely land and you must have fallen in love with it. I bet you are doing marvelous things around the house and your husband enjoys your work too. Wow!

I have NEVER liked TV, so you can count me in among the ones who don't watch it. In fact, when I was a kid, my mother was the only parent who actually WISHED she could get her kid in front of the TV... of course all the other parents she knew would have killed for that problem. I am pretty much the same way now. Except for an occasional very special program, I really have no interest. It's just too passive and I am more of a doer.

i don't watchmuch TV, if I do I have to be doing something else too with my hands (including coming on the internet) because i get bored just sitting waching it. I dont have cable so that limits the amt of shows too. I like watching some things tho, esp on discovery health... i like things where i learns stuff usually. I probably would never give it up just cuz I learn some really interesting things from TV!

For years I didnt't have a telly and didnt miss it in teh slightest. These days we do have one, my husband quite likes the odd sci fi series, but to be honest its not put on unless he wants to watch something. If it was up to me I wouldnt bother at all I think

I've gone a few weeks without tv but that's it. I like watching my soap operas too much to give it up.

We went without television for 3 months after our first fire. That was quality time for us. The board games came out and we ate so much more together. Television is indeed not necessary. I admire your valley home, would be nice to have some discussions bases on some of the farm doings you will encounter. I hope to see a few pictures on your profile too. We have cable now that we are living in the city for the time being and in two months time we found that there was nothing to watch. Just amazing.

I don't really watch TV at all, apart from the occasional sporting event. To be honest I find it boring and not worth my time or effort. I would much rather read a book, listen to some music, chat to friends on the Internet, work in the house or garden, or even go out into the real world and socialise! When I was growing up, TV here in England was excellent, and the BBC was renowned for quality news and drama. Now everything is "celebrity" shows and "reality" shows, or "soaps", and I hate all of them!! TV is much over-used in this day and age I think. Good luck to you.

If I am living in the country side, I believe I would give up watching TV too. LOL. I would be lying on the grass watching the stars and enjoying the breeze. Here in the city, the TV is a must for me since that is the only entertainment I have when I am too bored to do anything.

I gave up on TV watching a couple of years ago. Occasionally I get the news, but not more than once a day. I don't find it interesting anymore.I have a life to live, and it's not on the couch!

I can't afford cable or satalite and I can't get local chanels so I don't watch TV. I haven't turned on my TV for several years now. The only time I watch TV is when I sit with my nephew at their house. I don't really miss it much.

Yes, I got tired of watching all the junk on t.v.! I kept my t.v., only because I have several dvd's that I like to watch on occasion. I had cable tv at one time, but told them to discontinue service, they did not believe me, until they did'nt get thier payment.:)
