For those who know me I am Wiccan and I worship and follow a Goddess who I also consider to be Mother Earth. I did however grow up Christian as a child. So I do know that the bible states that God created man from the very earth we now walk on. With that said dosnt that make the earth our Mother? I say it does. Think about it. A mother provides everything her child NEEDS to survive. Well the earth provides shelter by growing large trees and rocks that form in to caves to shelter us. The earth grows delicious fruits and vegitables for us to eat. I know we do have Earth day once a year but dont you think Earth day should be every day considering without it we wouldent exist at all. I believe that we whould worship the very thing that provides for us our necessities on a daily basis. What do you think?

I choose not to worship mother earth but the Creator of mother earth. God, who is also the Creator of all things in heaven and on earth and under earth...

Mother Earth - The blue planet, third form the Sun. In the Universe called the Milky Way. The name is Terra, we call it Earth. It can sustain life. 3/4 of the mass is H2O.
Hello magikrose, Well I do have to say that those who don't worship Mother Earth are the ones who are ruining the atmosphere and poisoning the waters. I don't worship anything, but I do respect Mother Earth. We only have one chance, if we ruin that one chance, we will be living on a planet that will no longer be able to sustain life. Stpo burning fossil fuels, cutting down the major forests, damming up the rivers, and building Metropolises. if we don't stop all these things we will all parish and so will Mother Earth Peace, Totty

God created the Heaven and the Earth, not mothers. HE made the animals and had Adam name them. God specifically forbids the worship of the stars, suns, moons, the heavens and things of the earth or made from the earth and for that reason, we should honor and revere HIM. Okay what woman created the planets or the stars? Did the earth make the plants and the animals? No, the earth was formed by God HIMSELF and did not appear magically because Hera or some goddess decided it should be. You are worshiping the creature rather than the Creator and for that you are an idolater.

well, for me I choose to worship God and only God. We should respect and take care of the Earth and things he has provided for us, but I wouldnt worship it. The Earth is fleeting. God isnt. To me, that is the difference.

Mother earth does do much for us . Sometimes , I feel very close to the moon above or find nothing but peace with water. Many elements will hold a power over me. I have always respected the earth but I am not wiccan. However , I have always been fascinated with the religion . I even have read a few books and cast a spell or 2 . Many people look at it as a hobbie and maybe that is what I did. I do love nature and all the herbs and flowers. I should end now . I can get random sometimes.

Personally (speaking for myself), I do not worship the earth because the earth is just a planet, a part of creation. It is not the Creator. My religion teaches that the Creator is separate from the created universe, the Maker of space and time but existing outside of these things. The earth is to be respected, but never worshiped.

Hindus worship Mother Earth as a Goddess. Her name is Bhuu Maata. She is wife of Lord Vishnu. Vishnu means "All pervading" i.e. the environment and the Cosmos. These two seem to Latvian God(dess)s of NOrth East Europe. It spread to India when Aryans invaded India in 1500 BC approx. Roman Catholics invaded Old Prussia, Lithuania, Latvia etc. in 14th Century and erased Pagan Gods. I request somebody from these countries to reply.

a lot of people do. but we could also consider that not all mothers are kind and nurturing. and Mother Nature can also be a cruel and neglectful parent. there are tornadoes, floods, famines, Earthquakes, diseases... Nature is a vast and powerful force, deserving honour and respect, but we can never expect her to take care of our every need. we can work hard to work with nature and produce food and shelter, but if we just sit there and do nothing, we can't expect nature to look after us. sometimes, even when we honour and respect and worship her, she'll still neglect us. this doesn't make the Goddess bad. why should something so vast even notice us, after all. I don't beleive these are deliberate acts of cruelty. but nature is not like us. it is not moral or judgemental, it just is. it gives life, and it takes life away, and either is the same in her eyes.

I too grew up Christian then switched to the Pagan Path as an adult when I discovered my true spiritual path. I recognize the Goddess as Mother Earth and your concept makes total sense to me. Everyone will not see it, however, because everyone does not follow the same path - but they should ponder that Paganism existed long before Christianity and they should accord the same respect to someone who follows Wicca as they do to someone who follows Christianity. All higher powers are created equal. :-)

I do not have any particular religion but take something from each. I somewhat understand the Wiccan concept of Mother Earth which is very similar to the Natives concept if I'm not mistaken. I do agree everyday should be earth day because if we do not take care of our earth it will not take of us . As we are starting to see now with all the earth changes. I believe it's all about the circle of life.

I have never understood the need to "worship" anything. If I believed in an sort of supreme being, I would never select one that requires worship, it makes them seem small and shallow to me.

I think that it is better to worship the Creator Of the Earth and all entity than to worship the Mother Earth . as is illogical to worship the Creation Not the Creator . I am a Muslim and I worship One God and Here what we think about the God In a Post in Mylot by a Muslim brother : http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/1106083.aspx also Here is what we Muslims think about the messiah Jesus Christ " Peace Be upon Him " http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/1109916.aspx also Here is a very Good site of a Muslim Thinker http://www.harunyahya.com/

Excellent thread!! and I agree....and for me personally Earth Day IS everyday :-D but like you I am a Pagan so its naturally what I would believe...Unfortunately I think ppl tend to NOT view it that way because they'd have to own up to the fact that we are basically killing our mother (and brothers and sisters in ALL living things if that makes sense) for starters and others just find it too difficult to see life so simply and it really IS that simple..
