last time you cleaned your keyboard??

take a look at your keyboard for a moment. when was the last time you cleaned it? If the answer is never, and it's a new keyboard, no matter. but if you've had the keyboard for a while... hmmm! I just cleaned my keyboard recently. First I turned it upside down and gave it a good shake. Goodness! you won't believe the amount of crumbs that fell out! Try it! Then i took my vacuum cleaner and attached the appropriate small nozzle and gave a run around the keys and the gaps and tried to clean out all the remaining bits of dust and such that didn't come out with the shaking. Do you clean your keyboard regularly? many pats on the back if you do. If you didn't and just tried the shake-upsidedown experiment, what did you find? :)

Amazing, I vacuum cleaned my keyboard 2 months ago and i've just tried shaking it upside-down and there are lots of crumbs and dust which has fallen out; pretty same as u! I think I've to clean it every fortnight now! (",)

Mmmm... let me think... Oops, i remember now that i have not cleaned my keyboard since i brought it. I would have brought it around two years before and i have not touched it in the name of cleaning and i know that it is the top source of disease spreading but i could not have time or because of laziness, i have not cleaned it for a while!!

I not only shake and sweep out the keyboard I also use cotten balls and alochol to clean it every month, it cleans the germs and you would be suprised at the dirt it removes.

lmao, last time i cleaned my keyboard was very frightening for my keyboard. i mean i really cleaned it! after my treatment it didnt work! at first i thought i did something wrong because i usually dont just clean it with vacum cleaner because if you have ever opened your keyboard you will see that around those wires you can find hair! well at least in my case:) So i opened my keyboard and get it cleaned upside down so it looked like the new one. The problem was that i accidentally stepped on ps2 jack and i deformed few of those tiny wires. i got a new one and i dont think about getting it cleaned soon because i stopped eating while typing here on mylot(oh no, my sandwich dropped on keyboard, lol)!

hee hee - the only other comparable trauma i can think of is when my friend spilt milk on his! the entire board short circuited and his laptop was no more.

I regularly clean my keyboard, monitor, the fan holes in the computer, even the sensors in my track ball. I started doing it when I was having trouble with sticking keys. I thought I had spilled something. I took key off the keyboard and found it was just from everyday use. Between natural oils from your fingers and dust and hairs that will be in the air and just around, it can get bad. As you said just turn it over and shake it, I use a compressed air blower rather then the vacuum, but either way, get the gunk out. As I said, I also try to take care of the dust that attaches to the monitor because of the highly ionized screen and any cooling slots on it so it runs good. This I use a small hand vacuum as I don't want to blow things into the monitor. I do similar to the fans and holes so air can flow inside the computer. That I do every 3 or 4 months, or it overheats and starts to act wierd. Right now I am using a laptop and it is harder to clean the keyboard since the keys are closer together but I still try to do my best to keep everything clean on it.

I do clean my computer keyboard once every 2 months or thereabouts. I also clean my mouse, monitor and my CPU box as well. You cannot imagine the amount of dust that has settled on these pieces of equipment. But I've not used a vacuum cleaner yet to clean the keyboard. Perhaps I shall try that the next time I clean it. I think it is also good to open up the chassis of the CPU and lightly vacuum the inside, because the inside usually collects more dust than the outside. It's hidden away so we don't usually notice the dust.

Crumbs? your keyboard must have been greedy. lol. It has been years since I used an external keyboard. Yes, when I was using it then, I used to turn it upside down and give it a good shake whenever I feel like it. Instead of using a vacuum cleaner, I will just pat and pat and it is fun to watch the pattern form on the desk after the patting :P

Remove the whole keyboard from the notebook. Great challenge to remove and put it back. We did it few times. The feeling is different after that ;P

yup, hungry keys. that makes me wonder - how to clean laptop keys? I'm sure stuff gets stuck inside too...

Well *guilty* I must confess. It was a really long time since I last cleaned my keyboard actually. I used to clean my key board regularly. I even took the trouble to take out every key and wash them before putting everything back. That is until I got my laptop. I clean my laptop keyboard more regularly than my keyboard attached to the comp. I guess, when you use less of it, you tend to forget about caring for it as regularly as you used to. Shaking the keyboard upside down will always result in lots of debris that only god knows how they get there. Even when one does not eat and use the comp at the same time, the debris still gets there.

ha ha ha ha ha.... more like new-broom-sweeps-clean kinda mentality. That time computer new, so very fussy about the cleaniness.

i used to clean my computer system daily that include keyboard also. Nearly daily i used to blow out the dust from the keyboard by turning it in different directions. After this i use to clean the outer surface of the keyboard with the help of a soft cloth.

I must say that I have never cleaned my key board, if I am to be really honest Ihave never even thought about doing it!! But now that you have told me this I might actually have to go away and shake it a bit to see what comes out of it, I would never have thought of using a vacuum cleaner to clean it though LOL I will have to try that too

This is a really appropraite topic...I just cleaned mine today...and you are right it sure needed it! I also had a lot of crumbs, dirt, grime in it and on it! After I turned it over I took the solution that I use to clean my glasses, sprayed it on a soft rag and very gently cleaned between the keys and took layers of grime off. It is rather amazing how often we use our keyboards and still pay so little attention to them. I think you did us all a service by reminding us to take our eyes away from the monitors and look down at the keys...and pay them a little more respect for how hard they work on our behalf. Fun post...thanks!

The last time that I cleaned my keyboard was last week as I used a keyboard duster that goes between the keys with a brush. It works pretty well. I also have a Endust air duster to clean out any particles in the keyboard. I think once a week is good for cleaning keyboards, depending on your usage.

In our office, what you did and saw with you keyboard is true. Very dusty and I just can't believe it at first. At home my keyboards were covered ever since I bought it, so its not as dusty as the keboards here in our office. But I clean my keyboard every week, by wiping it with dry cloth just to keep the dust or dirt just in case. God bless!

I use to clean my keyboard regularly..as I drink and a am a smoker.. However.. I found an easier solution.. you can pick up keyboards for 10 dollars now..that last months and months....and rather than remember where each key goes to clean it out.. I now just replace the key board as soon as one or more keys start sticking.lol
