Live or Die? It is all our decision or isn't it?

A lot of people think that the question of living or dying is god's decision, and we should appreciate life and be thankful. But there are cases that people have to make a decision whether to live or die Some people can not bare life anymore and think that putting an end to it is the way. and others think that giving them the choice of living or dying will give them a different perspective on life if they choose the living option what do you think of that? Is it our choice? Would you prefer it would be your choice, or is it a decision which is not ours to make?

It is thought according to script theory, that many of us largely die by the rules of an old script that we write for ourselves as a young child. There are also some ancient spiritual notions that the soul gets to choose it's life beforehand...

It is very interesting what you wrote david, does that mean that eventually we all decide our destiny, in the unconscious mind?

well, that is the case according to script theory, and there's in many cases a lot of data to support that. I, on the other hand, do not back such a claim with science, instead I opt for spiritual belief--the belief that we are all a part of one reality, one energy, one God. We are in harmony with the universe, yet our every thought influences the universe. I believe, that we will find, be, become, and do what we believe we will...

hello, liranlgo,I think living in the world is not only for ourselves, bur also for the people who love us. We should try our best to live better.

Yes we should remember that their are people that love us. But somtimes we suffer so much we make them suffer, so we have to remember that too.

You are right in about 80%, sometimes you are just in wrong place and in wrong time...and it is no longer your own decision...

Only 20% what we think is conscious, so sounds like you are right...

Thank you pola, but about the other 20% wrong time wrong place, i really think that it is also somthing that we choose, when we make our mind to live or die. A person that decides to die, probably will draw a map in his head that would lead him to one of those situations.

please go back to the religon and you will know the answer. God create us for something, to something, to be a leader, to live, to make life and much more.

Yes. god gave us life and we should appreciate it every day. But he also gave us free will and that is also for a reason. I am very connected to my religion and respect all other religions, but believe there is a reason for him giving us a free will.

This is a very challenging question...but a good one. For me I think it can be either way. I believe in a Creator...and that we were given free will to co-create experiential life lessons and devlop our unique essence. Now within that free choice I think people often allow themselves to become 'ground down' by life and may come to believe it isn't worth living and end it by their own hands...or through some catastrophic illness. I have on the other hand seen many people with terminal illnesses choose to hang on to participate in some family event...and beating the odds. Others I have known have overcome a diagnosis of 'terminal illness' and live far longer than what their physician said was possible. So I do think the aspect of free choice and strength of intent (will) can determine the length and quality of our life. The question mark arises when people die suddenly...in a heart attack, brain tumor, or fatel accidents. That is a grey area for me. Anyway this is an interesting topic...glad you posted it.

No one can pretend to understand the suffering of someone who finds life a miserable chore. We are not in their minds. Many of the brightest have had their fill of life, found they no longer appreciate it, and embarked to find greener pastures elsewhere.

i do not know if i agree with the phrasing of "greener pastures elsewhere", but i do know that we think alike. No one can really understand what a person is going through, justify or blame him for his decision. Somtimes the sadness is too much. Thank you my friend.

I have often wondered about this and the fact that what would happen if everyone who was born given a birthday, was also given a deathday. For example if I knew I would die on 18th May, 2012 would that be better than wondering if I will live until I am 25, 45 or 95? Would you then appreciate life more, be able to plan more if you knew you had x amount of years to live? I do think that taking your own life is wrong, but for those who have no quality of life through disease, illness etc, euthanasia should be made legal, but that's a different ball game altogether. I think I'd rather know when I was going to die but not by my own hands.

That type of decision is not set before us by any good circumstance, individual or weakness.i don't care what kind of pain I am in, I will not consider that an option.I have three chronic illnesses, so i can say that with presence of mind towards it.It's going to end someday ,somehow, so I'm going to see what comes to me,there are too many lessons and too much beauty to be had in this life to let pain and fear interrupt it.

I believe it is my decision. If I were ill and there was a choice between a drawed out end and a quick one , I would choose the quick one.

Good discussion... I believe living and dying it is our decision? For me living is not just breathing, eating and being alive. Living is not than this. Living means trying to find the reason and motive of our lives. It's like journey and we only live our life at fullest if we enjoy, experiment and share each and every moment of our lives. And believe it's totally in our hands. In the same way, we also die. I have seen many people who are living but they really look very colorless. Their smile looks very dull and artificial. I don't thing they are living at all.

Life is a gift full of problems. The only thing we can do is enjoying every minute of it, good or bad. If life was perfect it would be boring, don't you think???
