Where Have All The Crows Gone ?

We had crows all around till the past five to six years. Nowadays it is observed that the crows are a rare sight around . What might be the reason for their absence. Remember the times when we used to wake up in the morning hearing the cro..cro..cro..sound of the crows. Are they facing extinction ?

In Singapore, crows are considered a menace and they were killed by the Animal control dept. on a daily basis. I've heard plenty of times, they were being shot and I feel really sad for them...

There definitely seem to be less of them, at least around where I live. But in one of the cities not too far from me, the crows are flying around in huge flocks and roosting in the trees around the shopping centers. It's a little annoying to come out to the parking area and find the car covered in droppings, but just to see those huge groups of birds flying in uniform circles in the air makes it all worth it.

Crows are not facing extinction. Believe me. Crows are like pigeons and seagulls... they have migrated to where the "food" is. They hang about urban areas and leach off trash. They hang around bust roadways and eat roadkill. Crows are not gone. And they aren't going extinct. There are many other birds and animals that are. Ones that won't adapt to urban sprawl, as we eat up their habitats to build more crappy houses. There are plenty of other species that you may not be familiar with , that are in danger.

In my country South Africa we still see them on a regular basis, and in some areas they are considered pests. But I just love them.

Yes, i have also marked that now they are seen rarely.Earlier there was all the time sounds of them around. And people used to say that there is some guest arriving if the crow shouted in front of the house. These days they are hardly seen, probably on their way to extinction

Dear sukumar794, You are right. In our city we used to have plenty of crows. Again you are right. I am not seeing plenty of crows in our locality. Of course there are few still available. About few years also I used to see lot of crows in our locality. It really the truth struck me when you write this that crows population on the decline. I agree with you.

Crows biggest predators are owls. So over the years at least in the US crows have become a lot more urban than they were years ago. Do you live in an urban area or the country? I still see crows all the time. They're quite common still around me anyhow.
