Well Hello all- it's been a very long time since I've been able to participate in MY LOT chat. As you can guess from the title of this discussion I've had a recent death in my family. My Uncle of 91 years and the last of my family passed away the end of June. He was so very dear to me and I was like the daughter he never had. He was a very special man. I will miss him very much. But on to why I started this diuscussion. Have you ever had the priviledge of working with a Hospice Organization?. This was in fact my second time with them. My Brother passed away 2 years ago and he was on Hospice care. I have to tell you they are some kind of wonderful! these people are saints! I cannot say enough about the compassion, the care, the calls the response, the follow-up all of it. When they tell you they have it under control they truly do! I was so distraught and upset I could barely give him a pill much less all the other care that was required. Thank GOD for Hospice! They just took such LOVING care of him I was just in awe. I hope that your experience was of the same caliber. Anyway I am glad to be back and look forward to catching up on my reading, I've missed you all so much. Give me some time to catch up here and I will be back in full. Thanks for not dumping me :) Jacki

Hello my dear friend! I'm so glad you are back and that you are ok. I am so sorry for your loss hon. But I'm glad the Hospice people were able to help you out. I personally have never worked with them. I've never had reason to. But I have heard from many of my friends that they are so kind and caring, and that they are incredibly helpful. It's good that you had that kind of assistance with your uncle. Like I said, I'm so glad you are back. Take care hon. Big hugs to you.

I hope you never have to use them, but if you ever should they are just wonderful and take such care with each patient. I would never hesitate to use them again if the situation should arise. Thanks again :)

Kat- Do you know that Survivor starts the 20th of Sept :) I believe it's going to be "Survivor China" that should make for interesting watching. Can't wait to sit ring-side and then discuss it. Thanks again for your warm welcome

I am so sorry for your loss, I went through the same thing a year ago with my uncle. You are right, those hospice people are angels in times of need. I can't say enough about them, I know their jobs are horrible jobs to have. You know going in that these patients won't be around for years and years to come, and still they come in and make them feel comfortable and cared for. Still in the end, they come in and make the whole family feel cared for and comfort them. Anyway, I am sorry again for your loss, and I am glad that you are back!

TD- sorry for your loss as well. I am glad that you experienced a pleasant and peaceful association with Hospice as well. It just makes it so much easier to relax and do the important things, like be together and cherish those last days. Thank you for the warm welcome back :)

Your welcome, and I agree that they do make things easier for the family to be there for each other rather than having to worry about paper work, meds and so on.

Hello Jacki! It has been a long time. I work for our local VNA/Hospice. It is a job that I find very rewarding. One of my clients passed away about 3 weeks ago. She was a delightful woman. It was a pleasure to have been able to bring comfort to her and her family in the last days of her life. I cried the last day I saw her. I said goodbye to her because I knew it would be the last time I saw her. Not many people can work in this field. It takes courage and compassion. I am glad that I have had the opportunity to meet such wonderful people. They have given me so much joy.

Oh my!!! hello there! I can so imagine you in this role. You have a heart like the size of Texas so it comes as no surprise to me that you would take on this most important task. It takes a very special heart to do what you do and GOD bless you for it. Thank you for the nice welcome and warm wishes.

You are so right about hospice care. I had my very firts experience in April of 2006. My aunt who was like a mother to me, was dying of beast cancer. They were so supportive. They helped my grandmother get through it alot and I mean help did help her stay focus and strong. I don't kow what we would of done without their support. Especially being that my aunt and grandmother was 2 peas in a pod. I give them my support all the way.

Hi Jacki! Nice to see you back here, and I am so sorry to hear of your loss. Your uncle sounds like a very special man. The only experience I ever had with a Hospice Organization was years ago back in the UK. My sister-in-law had terminal cancer, and was admitted to a hospice for the last 3 weeks of her life, and I cannot praise the staff enough. They were so gentle with her, very patient and so very caring; nothing was too much trouble - either for my sister-in-law, or for us when we visited her. They were true angels. I'm glad to hear that your uncle had the same quality of care. We are now waiting for your new discussions once again, welcome back!

OH Abbey- how wonderful of you to comment, I was in great hopes that you were still participating. I so enjoy our chats. I find it so comforting to know that across the world the Hospice organizations seem to all have the same "training" and compassionate participants. It sure speaks well of the organization at the top levels doesn't it. Thank you again for the warm welcome back and I look forward to catching up with you.

Yes, I'm still here, and I missed you; I thought you'd left MyLot (so many of my friends have been leaving lately). So I was very happy to see your discussion. I look forward to catching up too.
