Tragic Death of Chocolate...

United States

today the mail carrier delivered what amounted to a mini coffin in a bag, along with a smile and a note that read "we tried really hard, but there arent any survivors...our condolences."~!!! LMAO! its summer here...temps daily over 110F!! so needless to say you dont order anything that melts, at least not until the dead of winter! my grandmother recieved a package of gourmet chocolates as a b-day gift from an old friend. they didnt survive the trip..the post office tried in vain to save some of it, by stuffing the package into a big ziploc baggie! it was basically a bag of melted chocolate goo with some vague lumps and a soggy box! i didnt realize that the post office had a sense of humor!! do you have any funny stories about the post office?

My former roomie had a little newsletter she put out. Well, I helped, but it was mostly her. One time we got an envelope, in a baggy with a note "Sorry." the envelope was mashed to a near unrecognizable/unreadable form. The postman was lucky there was enough address to send it to us. From what we could tell, some kid must've learned about the little newsletter (and we are talking EARLY 1980's so pre-internet) and sent coins, in a tissue in the envelope. It seemed to have gotten caught in the machines. All that was left relatively un-mangled was the bottom right side of the envelope, looking at the address. We never could figure out a return address, or even a post mark to figure out what part of the country it came from! On the other hand, there was no apology the time I found what looked like creole sauce all over my mail at work about 10 yrs later!

LoL. I can't really think of anything funny right off the bat about the post office right now. I do know that some chocolate companies will package the chocolate for summertime shipping. I think Fannie Mae does that as does Harry and David. Even if it had melted, you can still eat the chocolate. :)

I had a funny thing happen to me after I wrote my last post. I got a postcard in the mail from a store that I frequent. It only had my first and last name and nothing else. There was a sticker over where the address would be. But, it was delivered to me anyway. It's possible that they postal carrier put the sticker over my address for privacy reasons. Otherwise, I wouldn't know how they could have figured it out unless they removed it.

That is sad story, a tragic waste of chocolate. I don't have any similar stories but I'll remember not to order chocolate by mail in the summer. mind You I live in England so hopefully it would survive as we don't have summers quite that hot, but with global warming it could get worse.

I have no funny experience from our local post office, that is unless you count a mail that was delivered a month late just because the mailman cannot be bothered to read the name of my computer shop (which have 3 large signs outside the shop edifice). He claims he can't find it when I'm on the main road, with the name of the store which is indicated as the addressee posted in a big sign board outside the shop.

geez thats pretty bad! you need a 5ftx5ft neon sign with those lights that circle around the outside of it flashing and the words "We are RIGHT HERE you idiot!!" lmao!!! course it may be more than a month when he sees it!

Years ago, way back to a time where Internet didn´t exist, I had some penpals. One of them was a girl from South Africa. For some reason she didn´t understood my address then she just wrote down something like the main street name and my name. One day I got the letter (almost one month after she had sent it). The postman told me that he was on vacation and the other postman didn´t know how to locate me. He on the other hand could remember all houses he delivered the letters to. He remembered that I usually got letters from other countries. The funny part was the advice he gave me. He told me to give the right add, of course, and when would be in vacation again I should go to the post office to find my letters there. He was really nice, but I didn´t want keep track of his vacation :D I just gave the right address to my friends.

That is funny! Perishables often don't survive most deliveries. Packaging is important. But even then they can suffer from the elements.

i dont have any funny stories with the post office but i think your story is very funny! i would've wanted a post office like that here in our place. i dont get too much glad with our post office, aside from the fact that they dont have that kind of humor, they always deliver our letters late. so im not really fond of them but i do need them because i have a lot of snail mail pals. ^___^

that was really clever of them! I wonder if it was the post office, post master, or postal carrier with the great sense of humour! too funny, thank you for sharing that little anecdote.

Ahh - poor chocolates! Atleast the post office made an effort to save them. Although in 110F temperatures, they don't stand a chance. Their message was so cute! What do you know... the post office does have a sense of humour :)
