How do you get rid of mosquitoes?

There is kinda like a swamp thing down from our house. It isn't on our land so we can't do anything about it and the lady that owns the land won't do anything about it (she is such a mean lady). Our neighbor called someone (I guess the city) and tried to get them to do something about it but they won't for some reason. But anyway the swamp creates tons of mosquitoes and they come up to our house and the other neighbor's houses. My husband took our son outside two days ago and he got eat up by mosquitoes. Is there anything you can use to try to help get rid of them? I have some baby bugspray/lotion that I got from avon to put on my son but is there anything you can put out on the lawn or anything you can spray around your house?
