Are You a Shopaholic?

I admit that I am a shopaholic!. I tend to buy things that I think I need(or will need), and often I will end up giving them away or getting very little use out of them. I recently bought a paper shredder because I really do need one. It has been sitting here untouched for about a week now. I will eventually get around to using it. I also buy items that I think friends and family might like so I always have gifts on hand when an occasion rolls around. Are you a shopaholic? Does this bother you?

NO, I don't like to shop and so I rarely ever go and spend money on things that I don't need. My husband likes to shop and he loves to spend money so he spends enough for both of us. I do like the Dollar Tree and I do occassionally buy things there that I really don't need but we use them.

I do usually get around to using the things I buy for myself, carolscash. I stay in most of the time so I am not tempted to impulse buy things I see in the stores.

I hate shopping so my response to your original question is no. I rarely treat myself, which is probably why. I spend any shopping trips buying for others, especially my children. I have been thinking of getting a paper shredder because of the high incidence of identity theft and I have some old bills I think are ready to be pitched. My mother is a major shopper. She has cupboards of stuff she has bought to have on hand for a gift for someone. My sister and I actually spent an afternoon taking inventory and making a list for the inside of her cupboard so she knew what was where. I admit, it has come in handy. Last Christmas my nephew brought his girlfriend to Christmas dinner. How boring and uncomfortable can it be for someone to sit there and watch everyone open presents? Of course my mother had a couple of goodies for her. I must admit, I bought a Harry Potter poster several years ago (when the first movie came out) with the intention of my daughter giving it to her friend for a birthday present. Then she came up with something else so the poster is still in my cupboard. My daughter says it is too old to give to anyone now. I do admit to having bought clothes that I have never worn. Not too many though.

Hang on to that poster, patgalca, it could be worth big bucks one day. I am sort of like you, I rarely buy things for my personal use, it's mostly for family and a couple of close friends.

I don't really buy expensive items very much, cher, because I don't have that type of budget. I really only shop about 3 times a month so that I can stay within that budget.

On the contrary,I do as little shopping as necessary.I don't like wondering around in crowded Malls unless I've got a specific destination or a gift to purchase on special occasions. There is one deviation I do allow for though and that is to stop at the Soft Pretzel Stand. That's about the one thing that makes the trip worth while.

Well, pismeof, being that I rarely go out, I don't wander through any malls, lol. I just enjoy ordering a few things from the catalogs I get, and occasionally online.

I don't consider myself a shopoholic...I really don't like to shop. Only under certain conditions like with my best friend...we warehouse shop so I also have lots of presents on hand. When I do regular shopping I try to use a list and buy only the things on the list.

I don't like to shop physically, jillhill, only through mail order and occasionally over the net. Like I said, I don't have a very large budget, so it's not like I'm into spending madly.

I am definately a shopaholic! I buy everything especially clothes! I didn't realize it until I went to Junior College and it was right by the mall and I noticed I would skip my classes just to browse through the mall! But I don't see it as a problem until I run out of money :)

You are right, brookehaun. As long as you can control your spending you don't have a problem. Happy shopping!

i am a little bit shopaholic i guess... but i can still control it and remind myself that i live on a tight budget... i can't spend money carelessly... otherwise i will not have enough money to pay all the bills and other expenses... but still, i have many unused items that i bought unnecessarily and remain untouched... i guess i have to stop doing that...

I am not a shopaholic but I had a friend that was one. She was always buying things she did not need. Thank goodness we were friends because then she gave me gifts during special occasions.

That would be a great benefit to have a friend like that, naty. I know that I really enjoy giving my family and friends little gifts. They don't have to cost a lot of money to be appreciated.

No, I am not. I dont have money to go shopping. My money was all saved for my family. I am not that poor, but I am strictly saving for my family's future.

I think if I had the money I might be a shopaholic sweety but I can't afford to do it so I am ok! I guess if there was aenough money around to do it then I wouldn't worry about it as I love to buy little gifts for friends and family just for the sake of it! xxx

I think you are not a shopaholic. You just feel that because the thing you brought have not been used for the first few days. May be it will come to use soon because you literally felt the need to get one and so you brought it. Sometimes I too buy something that may not be of any use to me at that time but may come in handy in the near future. So, I buy it if I find it cheap. Sometimes it does bother me but for some time only.

Hi, no i dont think i am shopaholic, as i am very careful about what i buy and generally i buy those things that i require only, from time to time. But yes, this happens with most people and they are just not able to control themselves and knowingly at times too , tend to over spend and later realise their mistake or see that those things were not really required. I also at times, tend to think this ways and it happens that i feel that i should go in for a particualr thing, but then when i rethink on it and ask myself, do i really need this, cant i do without it, i get my answer and i stop right there too, so i think its all within you, in your own mind. If you dont want to shop and want to save up and use the money elsewhere, you can stop yourself easily. But once you are in the market or with friends and are not able to control yourself then you will definately over spend. And we dont realise, but our major income goes away like this only and we keep asking ourselves in the end, where has the money gone etc, so if you are careful right from the start, then this wont happen to you, but yes, those things that you do require, you must keep buying them often too, so that that urge of just going out to buy anything, as we have not bought anything for a long time, does not remain within you too.

Yes I used to be shopaholic now i am slowly controling myself. The problem is i live in a remote place where there is no shopping. When i go to the city i keep picking up everything i see.The excuse is i never will be able to get it in my place.Like you i pick up alot of gifts as i dont want to run out of gifts for an occasion. We have been shifting houses so many times. Each time i shift only then do i realise the amount of unwanted things i have and i give away the stuff i dont need. When i look back i think instead of money in the bank all our savings have gone into buying things.I keep telling myself this is it no more buying but when i see a sale i just go for it as its very tempting.Hoping to control my urge to buy anything more than i need.

Hello! Yikes! i'm a shopaholic! *hihi* yes I am one shopaholic. I love going shopping, it's like a stress killer for me. My mother is one mega shopaholic, everytime she goes to the mall she'll end up buying stuff for me, my bro, my father, now for my baby and I used to complain about it. But now, i'm becoming like her! *hehe* everytime me & my mother goes shopping my father's eyeballs would popped out 'coz he knows it'll be a disaster! Even my husband would complain that I take a lot time going shopping even for food, mine is 2hrs and him is only 20mins. If he's in a hurry he would not take me with him. I do try to be good now, always prepare grocery list to make things easier but still end up buying things not in the list..*hehe* When I go shopping I always buy things even if I don't need it. I would sometimes say, maybe i'll be needing it one day, who knows..especially if it's on sale..*hehe* or sometimes buy stuff for my family or my hubby and most of those stuff ended up in the closet waiting...*hehe* I do actually feel guilty and bad about it after, seeing those nonesense stuff but what can I say...just have to put my sad face and *sigh* then would promise next time to be good, and still end up doing the same..hahay! life of being a shopaholic..hard! *wink* *hehehehe* LOL!! Have a great weekend! ciao! c",)

Hello worldwise1, I would have to say yes. I am definitely a shopaholic. Every time I go shopping, I end up over spending. My poor budget! I always buy what I need and then some. It may be that I have seen something on the sales rack, or I remembered an upcoming birthday, or I just feel that I cannot live without something. Where I live, the best place to shop for just about everything is Walmart. Groceries, clothes, electronics, toys, shoes, housewares, paint, tools, get the picture... So when I finish what is on my list, then I spend some time just looking around at different stuff. Clearance racks are good to look at. New items just might have something interesting. Oh I forgot to go to the cosmetic area! So I stroll through there. Lots of temptation along the way. If my time is limited, then I have a better chance of sticking to my shopping list. If I have lots of time, then I like to explore. What can I say?
