I have read a report which said that they have seletcted top 10 most terrible inventions and Television was on the list. They believed that since TV were widely spreaded people have spended too much time on watching TV. More and more people begin to stay at home in place of being outside. It aslo brings healthy problems. Many people called couch-potatoes have more possibilities to have fat problems. So the report said that watching TV was wasting our life. We should spend more time on the other things such as going outside or reading or sports instead of watching soaps, advertisements etc on TV. Do you spend much time on TV? Does watching TV really waste time? Do you think so?

I think you can waste alot of time in front of a tv...or a pc for that matter. Most of the time when I watch tv I actually only listen to it. I work on my cross stitch and just listen to the program. That way I'm keeping busy. I think as far as kids are concerned they need to spend alot of time outside playing and such rather than parked in front of the tube. At least thats how it was when I grew up. **AT PEACE WITHIN** ~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~

I think in a lot of ways, television does waste time. I think it can be a fun form of entertainment, and it certainly gives people stuff to talk about, but at the same time, it's not very stimulating and some people do watch an awful lot of it.

Absolutely right. I think that's why it is on the top 10 list. Some people just live for watching TV and watching TV is the point of their life.

Actually I only watch tv for two things.. wasting time, and getting tired enough to fall asleep. So yeah to me tv is a waste of time, but it doesnt really have any effect on my life. I dont plan my day around the tv, its running all the time, but I rarely watch it. Do I socialize less with having a tv? Nope Do I spent less time outside because of the tv? Nope again As said, I only use the tv to waste some time between chores or things I want to do :D

i dont think so. but in some ways yeah tv is kinda make people idle or futile. but in the other hand watching tv during leisure time could take away stress and worries by the end of every day work.

That's ture. When you feel too much stress, you can watch TV or listen to music. I love a lot of things. Watching TV is one of them. Spending too much time on TV is not good to health.

Many people talk about how many hours per week are spent on watching television. Well, I suppose it could become an addiction just like many other things. What is more important is what is being watched. Some viewing can be a good thing. I would argue that 10 hours per week watching garbage is far more dangerous, time wasting and addictive than say 20 hours per week watching good healthy entertainment, education or sport.

I love TV, and would be miserable without it. That said, I don't actually spend all that much time watching it, and tend to video things, movies and certain selected programmes, in order to watch them later. I spend far more time on the internet; and yet, I'd still deeply miss the time I do spend watching the TV. I watch it to relax at certain key time periods, such as last thing at night, and nothing relaxes me like it. I certainly don't think TV is a waste of time; it is a great source of knowledge, information and pleasure. That said, I wouldn't recommend spending hours and hours watching it; personally, I'd find that depressing, but we're all different. TV's great in my book, a real enricher of everyday life.

I don't think its a waste of time since watching television helps us to gather additional information and be aware on the news around us. It has a advanatage and disadvantage at the same time. But for me it really depends upon the person on how he use the television. If he watches too much obviously its bad but if we use ot moderately or at the right way then its a good thing.

yes WATCHING TV is a waste of time if we donot have self control. balance in life is must. not only TV any thing in excess is BAD. The modern life -so called freedom means-do what you like-this life style is contrary to self disciple.

Watching TV is entertainment, information and relaxation to me. I definatly had times where I spent too much time in front of the TV. I can see how it led to a nation of laziness and I think people need to find other things to do to keep themselves active

TV is good thing, but watching too much is not good for health. If I have more time, I should go out to be with friend or spend on reading. Thank you to response.

All things in life can be taken to the extreme. I have a physical disability and have not been able to work in a normal office environment since January 2007. I stay at home and use the Internet daily. I do watch TV in order to see what is going on in the world as well as my favorite shows (CSI) I do limit the amount of TV my children watch, because I think they need a balance of outdoor activity as well as school work. We like the educational shows on public television. TV can be good in moderation, but we also need other things of interest to keep us well rounded. I agree that outdoor activity is just as important as watching TV.

Yea I really do believe TV is a waste of time. Big time. And it also rottens the brain. I don't like watching much tv unless I know there's nothing else I need to take care of, because that way I don't feel so bad if I watch some TV. But for the most part, I would rather go to the gym or run errands, or do certain house chores, than sit down and watch tv. The few times that I have neglected my responsibilities by watching TV, I've regretted and have felt like a loser. lol.

I leave the tv on while I'm cleaning, cooking, doing my homework, I don't think of it as a waste of time, it helps me work faster I think.

I suppose TV could be a waste for some people. I'll admit that, as a kid, I watched a lot of TV because I didn't have many friends (and vice versa.) People don't have to just sit in front of the TV, though. They can ride an exercise bike, walk on a treadmill, etc. while watching, or they can take a portable TV or video iPod with them on a walk. Obviously, getting outside is much better than remaining inside, but some aren't able to do that as often. The "waste of life" claim is debatable. TV has educational programs, travel shows and other good stuff. Regrettably, there's also the dumbed-down programming which seems to get higher ratings. I don't watch as much TV as I used to, mainly due to my work schedule. Even with a recorder, I watch an average of 2-3 hours per day (1.5-2 hours when I skip the commercials.)

I guess, it depends on te kind of show you are watching. If it doesn't gives you any good insight or you learn nothing from it, then it is really a waste of time. But if what you ae watching is worth it, it gives you fun, it educates you, it widens your understanding and horizon, and it keeps you updated of your day to day living, then I think watching television is not really a waste of time. But a medium you can always rely on on the comfort of your home.
