You have pain; do you go to the doctor?

I am one of these people that just do not go to the doctor. I am probably lucky that there has not been anything seriously wrong with me. I can remember one time I was having dizzy spells off and on for a year or more. Eventually it stopped. I have had pains in my side but they eventually stopped. Now I have a pain under my rib cage for the past 3 years. I finally went to the doctor about 9 months ago and got a xray and nothing shows up. What should I do? Should I pursue finding out what this is or leave it in hopes it will go away?

There must be a reason you have the pain so I would investigate further. I on the other hand are like you. I think the doctors offices are filled with people that have aches and pains and the doctors time would be better spent on someone who really has something wrong. I don't go either unless I am practically dying.....my theory is if it's not broke don't fix it!

Yes I agree, there must be a reason. Sometimes the pain is really bad for like a couple of months and then boom it is just mild 24/7 with a few pings here and there. I was sure the xray would show something but Doc says no. He said he could send me to specialist but I never went back. I am wondering if certain food trigger it. So I am thinking of keeping a food diary for awhile.

That's a very good idea. My friend had symptons like she was having a heart attack and it took 15 years for them to figure out it was her gallbladder!

If there is pain, something is causing it. I really wish you'd get second or third opinion if your first doctor wasn't able to diagnose it. They say 'health is wealth' so its best to take care of it. I wish nothing is wrong but for your peace of mind, its best to investigate further the cause of the pain. Take care

Thanks maybe I will do that. I was thinking of doing a food diary to see if it is food related as to how much pain I have or don't have. If it doesn't work I guess I will go. Oh I hate going to the doctor!

There has to be something causing the pain even if it is just gas. I would not stop until I found out what it is. I have lived with pain 24 hours a day 7 days a week for over 22 years. Pain is no fun.

I was very similar to you years ago. I refused to go to the doctor because I thought it would be a waste of money for something that would surely pass. I wish I had gone sooner. When I finally went, yes it took some useless tests among the ones that worked to help diagnose some of my health problems. I would advise you to go. People can brag about not going to the doctor, but that doesn't mean they SHOULDN'T have gone.

We have a good medical here so money isn't the issue. I have just been this way since I was a little girl. I hated going to the doctor. Now through the years I find some problems can work themselves out on there own. About bragging about not going to a doctor, when I was younger I was afraid to tell people I didn't go to the doctor because what if then they made me go. When I got a bit older into my twenties I was afraid to say anything because I learnt that not going to the doctor can come off as being irresponsible!

If its chronic or a very intense pain, I'd see a doctor. Most other pains I ignore or I can take care of them myself. Coffee, I hope you figure out what it is though, I've been seeing more and more body pain threads in mylot. If I find out anything in my random internet prowling I'll post it here. Any other developments, I'll post here.

I don't like going to the doctor either, but I was in such horrible pain back in August last year and I ended up getting rushed to the emergency room after one hour of me crying and complaining that I was in so much pain, it was kidney stones and back pain. I'm actually glad I went.

Oh yes if the pain were that bad then I would be the first one to take myself to the doctor. The pain I have is just annoying mostly. Sometimes it is quite painful but bareable; so I think okay I will go but then never did until about 9 months ago for the xray that showed up nothing. Oh well.

I have noticed that some conditions cannot be clinically diagnosed. That may be what happened with you. I had an infection a few years ago that could not be clinically diagnosed, but I had the symptoms. I was placed on antibiotics and that cleared up my infection. I only go to the doctor if it is really serious.

I have a shooting pain down the front and the side of my right leg. I will just let it be and not go to a doctor. I am not that fond of doctors and also I am not that fond of what he might say. After all, if I heard that my leg hurts because I am too fat or I am getting arthritis then it went out of wrack because I fell and it is healing wrong especially when you consider that I would have had to wait months to get my ankles looked at anyway. Sometimes you just have to ignore it. If nothing shows up, it might be a sympathy pain or you may have put a muscle out. You just have to reverse the action that brought about the pain in the first place, if you can remember how it happened.

Good morning CoffeeAnyone, If you are still having pain, I would get it looked at again. Something is causing the pain. I am not one to run to the doctor with every little ache, but I do have regular check-ups. Blessings.

I don't go to the doctor right away, and I'm a nurse! LOL.. But if it's bothering you and the pain keeps coming back, a second consult won't be bad. The doctor might order other lab tests though, so be prepared for that. X-rays can show little about organs. It mainly shows the bones and some solid organs (heart).:)

I used to have a pain like that. I was told that it was because I dont eat regularly nor untime. Well the pain went away after I began to have breakfast again. I had another one just below the shoulder blade that would make breathing difficult. Some "bush tea" Cerossee and aloe vera removed it quickly. Look I dont visit the doctor regularly either. Some "bush" have been passed down from generation to generations and we have used it depending on the illnesses.

doctor - i only visit the doctor for serious conditions
Going to the doctor is also not my first option. I prefer to do home remedies as well as lifestyle modification. But I trust doctors enough to go to them when my condition gets serious. I just don't believe in taking too many medications. I believe that's toxic to the body.
