How do you choose a book to read?

When you're thinking about buying a book to read (or choosing one at the library) do you search by title and genre or do you find yourself looking for your favorite authors? Sometimes a title or the cover picture will catch my eye but I find myself looking for one of my favorite authors when I'm in the mood for a good read. I like Mary Higgins Clark, Lavyrle Spencer, Stephen King, and Rosemary Rogers especially but there are others I also look for. What do you do, just grab something that looks interesting or search for your favorite authors' latest works? Annie

Its either by series, genre or by topic. Lots of things to choose from though since I have so many interests. A few times I do try to grab something random in a genre to see what I can come up with.

I pick a book to read by the subject. I usually read non fiction so it all depends on the subject. The last book I read was about the lack of manners in the U.K and the U.S. When I did read fiction, it was the author that help me choose. I liked Lawrence Sanders so I would read all of his books. And I did have a stint reading the classics.I read Ibsen's plays. And some times I would see a film that would make me want to read the book.I saw the movie Henry and June and it made me want to read The Tropic of Cancer.

Like you, I prefer getting an interesting read through authors. When I would like a serious read, I usually look for Tom Clancy, Robert Ludlum, Scott Turow, James Patterson and John Grisham. When I want to read something light, I would look for books by Sophie Kinsella, Nora Robert or Sidney Sheldon. I used to buy books by John Saul and Stephen King, but now I live alone so I don't read them anymore, hahahah... what can I say, these authors really get to me.

I search for books by my favorite authors first. I also like Mary Higgins Clark, she's my favorite author of all time. ^_^ I'm also a fan of Nicholas Sparks and Paulo Cuelho. I also search books by title, especially ones I've been recommended to, or ones I've heard around. When in booksales, I look at covers and their summary.

First of all i check if there is something new that i haven't read from my favourite authors :) ... But after all i try to find also something new ... than i check first a cover : it must catch my eye ... after that i read what is written on back. If this is interesting than i borrow book and read it... Usually i am not wrong about books i borrow or buy ... but yes sometimes i think book might be interesting and it isn't : That's why i prefer first to borrow and than buy ... :)

To be honest, it has to grab me. and if it's something I can get into, then I'm with it. Like for example, I have never read Don Piper, but was intrigued, so I got 90 Minutes in Heaven and now am reading Heaven is Real as well. Interesting books. So for me it has to grab me.

I actually just have a tendency to look for my favorite author. To be honest I just don't buy that many books anymore but will get them at the library...the only books I will buy though are say the Harry Potter books, now have all of them, and other books I love. Then sometimes what I do, say I read a book from the library and I think to myself, I want to have my own copy so I can re-read..then I'll buy it...like after I read The DaVinci Code, I just HAD to have my own copy and plan to re-read it again...Did just recently buy The Eldest..the second of the Eragon series

To be honest, I judge a book first by its cover. If it's interesting, then it will have my attention and I would look at the back to see what's the story about. And if I am interested further, I would browse through the middle to see if I could catch some interesting lines, if so, I will definitely read the book.

In most of my cases , it's something returns to my mode , than it comes the author , so I may read a sci-fi book at morning and a police story at evening.

I also enjoy reading Mary Higgins Clark. If that is the type of book you like, you might also enjoy books by Iris Johansen or Dean Koontz. Anyway, to your question. I usually start looking for books by authors I am familiar with. If I don't see one that interests me, I start reading titles. When I read one that catches my interest I open it and read the first page of chapter 1. If the first page holds my attention.....that is the book for me.

One should choose a book to read as per his/her interest. It is always better to read the back cover where the theme is written very briefly and also the preface

I start with genre. I like to find new books and authors. Then, I look for books by authors I'm familiar with in a certain genre. One time, the cover of a book caught my eye and grabbed my interest enough for me to read.

I would definitely search for my favorite authors. I like Sidney Sheldon, Stephen King and Virginia Andrews. However if there were none of their books in the library, I would choose the same genre which have the closest similarity with my favorite author's books. It's been a while now that I haven't been reading books, I just wish I could find a perfect time to do it. I miss reading though, it used to be my number one hobby.

I am a voracious reader, anniepa, and enjoy the works of a great many authors. I tend to read books by my favorite authors more than any other, but I will occasionally be gifted with a book by someone whose work I am not familiar with. This has considerably widened my circle of favorite authors. The authors whose books I try never to miss are Stephen King, Dean Koontz, Nora Roberts, James Lee Burke, Sherilyn Kenyon, Jeffrey Deaver, and Lee Child. I could go on, but that is a pretty good start, lol. I love mystery, action, paranormal, and the occasional romance. I do read serious stuff sometimes also like historical and biographies.

I search for books by my favorite author, Lili Dauphin. Lili has written about a young girl Tilou, growing up in poverty stricken Haiti. These books are based on her childhood. She has just released her third book about Tilou, "My First Sin". Tilou is looking for her first sin so she can take her first communion. Her first two books about the adventures of Tilou are "Crying Mountain" and "I Will Fly Again-the Restavcek". I these books, Tilou survives a class 4 hurricane and is imprisoned as a child slave. For more information about her books, go to www.Islandlili.com
