Deleted discussions from many of my friends

It is disheartening to you to have things deleted, but some things seem to be getting the ax a lot lately. In the past the site has let them slide, but I barely am on here and in the last two days at least eight discussions from my friends have been deleted. This is a tip, and you tell me if I am wrong, but the discussions that mention another member by name, whether good or bad, are getting deleted, and the milestone discussions, like it is my 100th post, are getting deleted, and the discussions that do not seem to be asking for a comment or a discussion are getting deleted. Can anybody else come up with some common traits that we are needing to avoid, in order to keep discussion going? Oh, I know, promoting a link within the discussion will get you deleted, too.

I am agree with what you are saying but I think it should be clarified that links to other forum sites are not allowed but when citing or quoting from any news articles etc. you must give the link to avoid copyright infringements.

That is an important clarification, thanks for adding it. It is hard to keep on the good side of everything, but we sure try. I do not think any of my friends with deleted discussions set out to be in violation of the rules. It just seems that some days they enforce things more strictly than others.

Thank you for BR. I also want add that I do not post as many discussion anymore because if the discussion gets deleted then I really feel bad that the mylotters who responded also lose their earned point(s).

It is totally wrong that someone deleted the discussons. Reason : Only that person knows. If you do not want to participate that just leave. Why anyone is going to delete. If it did not matter to you, may it matter to someone else. Whatever be the topic let it be for others .

Only the site admin can delete discussions. They delete them when they feel that in some ways the discussions are violations of the myLot rules.

I think MyLot people should take the initiative and clearly define what all is allowed in a discussion and what all is not. That is the only way things are going to be right otherwise very soon we will loose out this otherwise wonderful website!!!

All you've said are indeed written in the "DON'Ts" section of the guidelines, but I also post to them and that's why I get some deleted post and my ratings got affected by it. For the past couple of days, there's no time that I log on here seeing my number of posts decreasing. I don't know what the reason is, as I'm having a hard time in tracing back from my previous posts. Yes, I'm doing my own checking on it and yet I can't still get the results or answers to this theory. All that I do now is search for other posts to respond at, avoid those of which I usually post at and hope that it won't get deleted. It is really frustrating, dishearting and is already annoying too. I wish mylot could provide us better explanation about this matter, they should open up communications here so we can be aware of what has been going on.

Hello! It is confusing and a bit annoying that some discussions were deleted and honestly I don't know the reason why. So far none of my discussions were deleted but some of my friends discussion where I responded to where deleted. And if I were to respond to a discussion from my email i'll find out that such discussion was deleted for violations. If I were to recall those discussions I can't find any reasons for violating any rules. I guess, writing a post about your family life, or about your first payment here is not allowed, even your star rating. I like this site but with what's happening myLot should at least explain to their members why. It's frustating and yes, disheartening. I just hope things will get better in the few days. *smile* ciao! c",)

I am glad that my tips helped. I think what I saw about other members said not to post to draw attention to any other member by name, so I do not do that. Better safe than sorry. I know you were not flaming, you were having fun with a friend and none of US thought anything of it. I personally like to hear about everyday life, and I like to see if I relate to other people's experiences around the world. I think someone who was "in charge" was having a bad few days, and our friends suffered.

Hmmm, I know what you mean, as this was on the increase before I left on my 7 day holiday. It used to be that having a link aided a discussion (unless promoting a program). I am not sure why My Lot are doing this? It could be that they are heavily encouraging quality discussions, so they are simply deleting the superficial ones. Such as reaching ones 100th post. It can also be said that not asking for a comment or opinion is a simplified post too. I guess that means my discussion I started a few hours ago, on returning from vacation is fairly simple too. It may be deleted.??

I see alot of discussions being deleted also- I'm confused as well- One was deleted about batting for quilts- it was so odd-- the deletion I mean- It was a great discussion. These tips are good- I'm sick of answering posts just to have them deleted- what is mylot coming to??

So, did the discussion ask anything, or just give info.? My hubby always sticks some kind of a question into his discussion. We really lose out sometimes, more than just points, pertinent info. as well.

I didn't know your husband participated in My Lot? Is he my friend? I guess you are not allowed to mention his username here?

Does mylot contact the person who started the discussion when they feel the need to delete the discussion? I have wondered this. I dont think I have had a discussion deleted but If they dont tell me, I would not know as I have written alot of discussions.

I do not think that they contact you about deletions, but I do not think I have had any deleted, but lots of my friends have. Their complaint is that the site does not inform them.

That one would have been considered a "milestone" discussion, and they frown on those. Once in awhile someone gets away with it.

I had no idea that it was improper to mention another member by name. It will be interesting to see follow-up on that. I have been confused about the milestone thing, myself! Once I was talking about how my feelings and perceptions of a particular milestone were different before and after my having achieved it and BANG, somebody complained and the whole discussion was yanked in an eyeblink. I'm not complaining, but I could say that I'm still reeling from that one, because "scofflaw" is not exactly one of my usual character traits. Promoting referral links is understandably a big no-no, though, and I got pretty annoyed last night to see that one so-called myLot friend had posted his referral banner as a comment on my profile page. I don't know myLot's rule on that, but it sure was a violation of my own rules, lol. One would think a person would ask permission before pulling a stunt like that. I thank myLot for giving us the delete button that allows us to remove comments of which we do not approve.

I've had a few go too, here's what I've noticed. If you badmouth any sited like "Y..ie", the discussion stays but if you praise it, even without links... that discussion goes quick. Anything mentioning medication is fine but if you mention natural alternatives then it gets removed. You also can't offer information about anything that will make you money, even if you're not posting links.

That matches pretty well with what I have noticed as well. We of course have to leave room for discussion. I think the thing about the alternative treatments is that the Federal government has made it a crime to promote natural methods or alternative methods, something to that extent, and to avoid being in violation MyLot has to get rid of those discussions. I think they could help a lot of people, but we are so sue happy it just does not promote free speech in that area.

I see what you mean Gerty. And yes yours truly did start a wrong discussion depending on your perspective and I went into that knowing it was gonna be deleted, so there was no real loss there. The problem I and others are having is that some honest threads and some threads that actually question mylot are getting axed. The worst part is, none of our grievances are answered (especially mine). Well, I guess I better think of double deluxe soft pillow discussions. Thanks for bringing this up, along with Mooch and Pyewatcher. You definitely have my support and concerns on this one.

Everyone just needs to review the guidelines from time to time. I checked them out about 2 weeks ago and they are more extensive than when I first joined. Mylot is just trying to keep out the discussions started just to garner money, not the discussions started to actually get conversations going.

I just learned about the link thing today actually. I also know that alot of the discussions I've seen disappear have to do with things that don't require much of an answer. So far as I know I haven't had any deleted (knock on wood). **AT PEACE WITHIN** ~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~

I'm glad I saw your discussion. Because it shed light on my confusion why my discussion that I posted a few hours ago, got deleted. It was my very first deleted discussion. Thankfully, it only got one response and I already gave a PM on my friend who responded, giving my apology that her time giving a response to it, was wasted. I thought it got deleted because my discussion involved my explanation about the movie I saw that featured free surgical service for facial deformities by a non-profit group of doctors and nurses. Then I thought, too maybe it got deleted because I put the names of the two teenage main characters of the movie, as the title. Thanks, GardenGerty for the information. I'm not annoyed that it got deleted but I was surprised.
