Hi zelmarq. It happened also to me, wherein when I waked up early in the morning, I felt something bad in my neck. It really hurts a lot. What I did was to place some cold ice water, then it was gone later on. I tried that once and it was effective. Heat application can also help. Have a nice day and God speed!

I have stiff necks quit offten and I usually take some Ibuprofen's for is and that helps me out. Or if you are getting them from sitting at the computor for long times then it will help to get up and move around some. Also if you get muscal rub that also will help you too.

I found this write up very helpful as a home treatment for stiff neck. Ice pack or cold massage applied to the low back for ACUTE strains Get in a comfortable position and apply cold packs or ice for 15-20 minutes three or four times a day or up to once an hour for at least the first three days. Cold decreases inflammation, swelling and pain. Heat applied for 15 -20 minutes while resting in a comfortable position with heating pad or hot water bottle for CHRONIC strains . Use caution with heat as this can increase swelling. If you are not getting relief with heat you may respond better to ice. SEE DEFINITION OF ACUTE VS CHRONIC. Use a cervical pillow. If you don't have a cervical pillow use a feather pillow with a small towel roll tucked in to support your neck. Everyone is different if you have a "good" pillow you will feel better after resting. If you have a "bad" pillow you will feel worse after resting. Use of a collar. Take breaks if you have to stand or sit for long periods. Sit or lie in positions that are most comfortable and reduce your pain, especially positions that reduce arm or hand pain. Do not sit up in bed, and avoid soft couches and twisting positions. Avoid positions that worsen your symptoms, such as sitting for long periods of time. Bed rest can help relieve neck pain but may not speed healing. Stick with what makes you feel better. POSTURES FOR ACUTE PAIN RELIEF Top of page * Lie on your back with a soft(feather) pillow and a small towel roll under your neck with your knees bent and supported by large pillows. * Lie on your side with a soft (feather) pillow and a small towel roll under your neck. * When you sit add pillows so you can rest your head back comfortably and place a pillow under your arms. * Good posture means ear, shoulder & hip are in a straight line - this is the same for standing, sitting & lying down. Hello Zelmarq. I also had this problem before when I didn't have enough rest and sleep from working too many hours. I didn't take any medicine but stop working for my neck to get relaxed. I think that the best way is to sleep enough instead of working any more these two days. Stay healthy.

My daughter used to get this a lot. There are a few different things we use to try to help. You can take a pain reliever. If you can have a massage. Or use a hot cold treatment. I know they can be very annoying and you are always reminded it is there when you do anything. Take Care! Vicki

Oh what sad thing that had happened to you, even though I am not a physiotherapist, hopes this small tips will help you. Just look for helper, you friend or mother, to massage your back part by using their both thumbs. Left thumb for left side and right thumb for right side on your back part. Massage upward stroke, I mean start from your waist part the upper shoulder level. But the masseuse's thumbs must be in fixed position at perfect 3 inches/side from the vertebrae point. 3 inches for the respective left and right thumbs from the vertebral column. Means the total length for both thumbs is 6 inches. Push both thumbs for upward stroke, let say for 50 times. Let see the difference.

Other than a trip to the chiropractor, rest is the only thing that has worked for me. I have had similar experiences of not being able to move my head in any direction. The only cure was to lay down still and try to get comfortable. The last time I went to the doctor, it was discovered that my vertebrae in my neck were out of alingment. That was over 2 decades ago. Unless I have a burning pain in my neck, I assume the pain was from sleeping the wrong way. It happens every 2 or 3 years to me.

Other than a good massage, you could try the old hot/cold treatment. This works for me. Alternate between an ice pack and a hot compress on your neck. Good luck, stiff necks are a pain in the neck. Sorry, poor try at a little humour.

I get these all of the time, and really there isn't anything that I have found that really helps a lot. Sometimes I can provide temporary relief by applying a hot pack to the area for a little while, and taking some Motrin, but it doesn't make it go away, just eases the pain a little.

It is easy to make one by filling a sock with rice and tying the end shut. Just pop it in the microwave for about one and a half minutes and it works great.

You have to gently stretch the tight muscle. Since you cannot move your head to the left, I assume it's your right neck muscles that are tight. Here's how to stretch it: Sit upright on a chair. With your right hand grab and hold on to the back leg of the chair. Using your left hand gently tilt your head to the left. Hold for 15 seconds. Repeat three times. You can also do this for the opposite side.

Go get a professional massage. Or at least get a friend to rub your neck and shoulders. When my neck hurts I have to take like 20 extra strength tylenol or they won't work. I find it a lot easier to just get my guy to rub my neck, but he's not very good at it. I think the only thing that could cure my substantial neck problems would be regular massage therapy which I can't afford. I really recommend getting a massage of some sort even if you can't buy one.

Hi Zelly, I think you should take enough rest for you are stressed for sure. Do not excercise without expert opinion, that could actually be harmful. You can take mild pain killers. In workplace do not exert yourself much. Good luck!

I usually roll my neck from side to side and I try to make sure the chair I sit on has support for the back of my neck. It usually happens when I am tense, but it is not as bad as what you have. I would say to get more sleep, try using two pillows instead of one and get a firmer mattress or put a board under your mattress. You could also get someone to massage your neck and your shoulders.

Do you have someone who could lightly massage it? It also might help to put some heat on it as well. Just be careful not to lift too many things today so you won't strain it. : )

I hope I could request someone to massage it for me. The people here in the offcie are all busy and Im just to shy to ask them to massage it for me. I just waited until it was time to go home and I rested at home. It was gone after i woke up from my long sleep.

Hi Zelmarq, I am going to tell you a Yoga cure. First touch the back bone of your neck with the fingers of both your hands. Then, inhale deeply while moving your neck (only neck) up.Then exhale moving your neck down.Repeat this process about 20-30 times as soon as you feel that you are going to have a stiff neck or had got one. Bye.
