How do you deal with the wires that are hanging off your pc?

Wires mixed all together - a bunch of wires

All these wires are a pain to me and I hate the way they always get all tangled together. Every so often I'll get back there and try to seperate them then use those plastic things to tie them together just so they are a little neater. My pc is facing the wall so nobody sees them but I know they are there and it drives me crazy. I have two different power strips and yesterday I realized that I have everything plugged into the wrong ones and I need to unplug everything and put the pc plugs into one and the tv/dvd player/cable plugs into the one closer to the tv. I dont' know why I didn't do that in the beginning. What do you do with the wires hanging off your pc? Are they in a big mess like mine are? Do they get on your nerves being that way?

there is a furniture store called ikea...its in various places in north amercia and they sell rigid tubes that are split on one side...they are about 6 inches long and are great for bundling all your wires in, not only for your computer, but for your tv and sterio too!

Ikea is a swedish store and it's in few and far between places. They do have great things though. The closest one to you though, is in stoughton. http://www.ikea.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/IkeaNearYouView?storeId=12&catalogId=11001&langId=-1&StoreName=stoughton but you can order online and i'm sure you could make your own tubing by being creative and using tubing from home depot. If you like that idea that is.

Yes, I have seen the tubing and at stores closer to me than Ikea. Stoughton is a loooong way for me since I don't drive and I don't like to ask anyone to drive me that far. I'm going to check out the local hardware stores because I think that's where I saw something like the tubing.

I don't worry about the wires at all. They are nearly all at the back of the computer. I used to be able to set it all up myself, but now my hubby does it. The only thing I should do is keep it dusted & swept, which I don't very often.

I do the same thing with my wires, I use zip ties. We have 4 computors in our house so the less wires we have the better. And it does make it easer for when we move things around that way we dont have a half dozen cords laying and figure out which one goes to which computor.

A friend of mine came up with a wonderful idea to keep the cables tidy. He uses a short length of flexible tubing and takes the plugs off the cables, feeds the cables into the tubing and then replaces the plugs. It keeps the cables from tangling and has the added advantage of keeping the tv and hi-fi cables seperate from the computer cables too.

I have a hole in my desk that they fit nicely through and are plugged in all neat and tidy in my computer power strip. Same goes for my tv/dvd/stereo system... plugged in all tidy. I had those plastic ties...so I just try to plug everything in as nicely as possible and so long as you don't fiddle with them they usually stay.

I have a large desk and the cords/wires are all behind the area that has the drawers etc so they are out of sight and also out of the way. They have ties to hold wires/cords neatly into a small area also. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

My hubby played it smart and actually made sure the wires were neatly bundled up together so that no one would pull them apart with their feet under the desk. And believe me...there are a LOT of wires under there. The only ones that manage to get tangled up are the lines for the all in one printer that I have. I just kinda push those behind the table where they are out of the way, and leave it at that.

When we use to have a desktop computer we would use those plastic tags to tie them and make it look neatish. They only got on my nerves when the tags fell off and noone bothered to retie them LOL

I abide by the rule of "out of sight, out of mind, ctry, lol. Those cords are an unsightly mess and I try my best to keep them straight, but they never stay that way. I am currently using a laptop and I end up dragging the cords all over the room. It isn't so bad until some of the little ones come around. I recently moved everything and I will have to wait and see how it will all work out.

You can take comfort in the fact that when your PC gets outdated, you can always purchase one that's wireless. Apple seems to be taking the lead in this area, but I suppose other manufacturers will follow suit. Wireless PCs are the future. Why didn't they think of that sooner?

I had to laugh a little when I read this... I thought I was the only one who really let this get on my nerves. I'm liking this site more and more, for all the things I'm learning and finding out about. Now I have something else to add to my shopping list. I might even try some of these ideas and be creative!
