I can't say that I have full information here so if you are more aware please share. I have watched her talk show a couple times and bits and pieces of America's Next Top Model. Now on the TV show she has talked about girls, body image, health, models being too skinny, etc. But last night on ANTM, a TOO Skinny model got real sick and it looked scary. She got to stay but the "AVERAGE weighted yet referred to as PLUS sized" model got sent home. How is the modeling industry going to change when you have well known people like Tyra doing the same thing? What message is Tyra really sending our girls? I have a 12 year old who likes to watch ANTM and thinks she is FAT. WTF?

I watch it yeasterday too, but it looks like I understood it other way. I though they sent the girl home, becuase she hadn't even body of model or even with PLUS Sized model. What I have seen this girl on tv her confesion size can be arpund 38 or 40 and what i know PLUZ sized model are starting with confection of 42 (europian size) So I can understand why she let her home, not because she was average, but becasue she didn't fit. And someone have to go home anyway. I think it would be much more confusing, if they would let her go in the very first episode, what they didn't. And also I don't know if you have seen other epizodes, where were two plus sized model, they were much bigger than Sara yesterday and also they made it pretty far, also they didn't win, but i think it is nice to show, that everyone has chance.

Thanks for your post, like I said I don't know much from the bits and pieces. But I still think we are a long way away from seeing a plus size winner on that show.

Your daughters already being brainwashed, KILL THE TV NOW! Seriously how could that be considered fat? Personally I don't think I could date any of those models. I'd be afraid I'd break them. Their not attractive at all, their lollipops ( actually more like tootsie pops with no tootsie rolls in the middle. Skinny stick body with nothing in their heads.) Don't believe me, watch The Most Smartest Top Model with Ben Stein. They supposidly got the brightest & only one or two of them have a lick of sense. Btw, those fashion magazines make good kindling. Starting a fire is about all their good for.

hi vicki! i don't like tyra banks at all. i don't think that her show is worth watching because a lot of the things that she endorses are garbage. i mean, she has really distorted ideals. i know she is very successful and has hurdled difficult times, but that doesn't mean that she is an authority on anything. i think i would like oprah for that matter. she speaks better values that tyra. and oprah is fat but confident. lol :-) and healthy, too.

I do admire Oprah too. I think she is a wonderful human being. Tyra can not compare to her at all. I think it is weird that in her day time show when my preteen is at school she talks about eating disorders are bad but then the evening program where preteens are watching she keeps the one who is not eating right and gets rid of the healthy weighted person and calls her plus sized. Oprah would never do that. There will never be a healthy weighted plus size winner to that show. Nice message Tyra!

WTF is right your daughter is crazy to think she is fat. I hate shows like these that's why I don't watch them. They are so damaging to young kids because they teach them that skinny is the in thing and its the reason we have kids that are anorexic and bulimic. There was a show that was about big women being models and I think we need more of those shows. Actually what would be even better would be a model show with both big and small women and in the end both a big model and small model should be chosen so that these young kids can see that size really doesn't matter.

Yeah I don't either but seeing from the papers and stuff regarding their coverage of all these models and fashion show, it does seem that the models tend to get skinnier and skinnier by the day. And that is not a good thing, as people don't tend to know where and when the lines been crossed. And for little girls, it will be worse as in most cases all they would want to do is to be like their favourite models, actors and such. We need people to set a good standard so that everyone else can follow, and it should start with the celebrities, since they seem to influence people the most.

I have never liked Tyra Banks. She seems phony and all about Tyra. I watched her a couple of times when she had that lousy talk show. Did you see the one where she dressed up as a fat lady and got men's reactions on blind dates? She actually cried tears. It was pathetic. I avoid watching Tyra Banks at all. Britany Spears has more appeal...at least she's real.

Personally I think one of the best antidotes to all this size zero brainwashing is for young girls to actually see some of the top models in the flesh. I've seen a few, including Kate Moss, and the thing that struck me the most was how bad they looked! I mean REALLY thin and really unhealthy looking. Most have bad skins and bad teeth due to being undernourished. What we see in the magazines or on TV isn't real - it's airbrushed or heavily camouflaged with cosmetics. I've watched Tyra Banks show on satellite a few times. I know she makes a big deal out of being yourself and not conforming to the traditional skinny model image, etc. I've also watched ANTM on satellite and I've yet to see a real plus size girl getting anywhere on the show. Personally I think Tyra Banks says all the right things but actions speak louder than words, and her actions still send out all the wrong messages to young women.

I don't watch ANTM. But I do wonder just when a size 2/4 became the norm. I understand that being overweight is not good for a person's health, but I don't see why women are told by the media that they have to weight 100 lbs to be beautiful. I am curious, how much did the "plus size" model weigh?

I didn't catch her weight. To be honest standing beside the skinny models you could tell she was not as skinny as them but she was very beautiful

i used to watch tyra's show and i used to watched A,erica's top model but now no longer watched it. i agree to you that she is sending the wrong impression and people who look up to her such as young ladies who wants to be a model. i just wish she knows what she is talking about before she opens her mouth.

You should have your daughter watch Monique's model show. I forget the name of it, but it celebrates plus sized models. If you don't get this show in your area, show her some pictures of Monique. She is a big beautiful woman that is not ashamed of her size. I can't stand the model industry nowadays for real. Making everyone insecure because they are not a size zero. Everyone should celebrate the size that they are, not try to fit into an impossible mold.

I like watching America's Next Top Model very much. I don't think that Tyra especially like very skinny girls. Actually in some seasons of America's Next Top Model, some very fat girls can be the candidates and they were sent home late. I remember Tyra said she hoped to find a good plus size model rather than the skinny one.

Well i dont like tyra banks period,i hate people that are so full of themselfs and to me she is nothing to look at once you take off all of that make up she looks horrible to me,but anyway i wouldn't allow my daughter to watch that show anymore, because there is so much peer pressure going on now adays that as osoon as someone says to a women about their weight teens start to freak out and feel like they are fat and just because they aren't a size 3 ,they wont fit in.i feel the modeling industry should be equal to all sizes because its only fair and there is so many beautiful woman that are petite, average, big or even huge but so beautiful and carry themselfs very well.i feel we should all have a shot at modeling no matter what size we are or how tall we are.i wanted to model when i was younger but because i am only 5'1 i did'nt qualify, yes i am skinny and a size 3/4 sometimes a 5/6 depending on the type of clothes but why should the height matter.i just wish they would banned her show all together because too many people get ideas in their heads and it can cause many problems.pattie

I won't let her watch it anymore. It is dumb and you are so right that there are so many pretty women out there. Your height shouldn't have mattered at all! I used to be asked to do modeling when I was walking in malls as a teen. I am 5 foot 10 inches. But when they heard I was 125 pounds they thought I was too fat. Back then there wasn't a lick of fat on me. I wish I had that figure now. Then I was told I was fat. They couldn't see it till they got me on the scale. Stupid industry. Fashion should be for all sizes. We are all beautiful no matter what. Thanks Pattie

Tyra don't send a very good message when it comes to her body image shows and then doing America's Next Top Model. Me personally, I thinnk the shows do have a conflict with one another. In this day and age there is so much pressure on people to look a certain way (teens especially). People are so judgemental now in society. Although Top Model sends out "the WRONG message" to our kids, Tyra sends out a pretty good message on her shows. I watch her talkshow most every day and she does send out the message that we as women should love ourselves inside and out. In matter of fact, she just had a show on body imageand how society judges us based on the way we look. I wouldn't reccomend any shows for teen girl that is based on sinny models, but I would reccommend The Tyra Show because she does send out good messages for women in todays society. She not only tlks about how the world sees us but issues on how we view ourselves. Also, she talks about women's health and things we should definately be informed about. As for your daughter I see her picture you posted, she is so very far from fat. I myself don't have any children that old but I do have 3 small girls, I do have a 13 year old cousin in which I am very close to and sh is the same way. Personally I think it is a stage that all teen girls go through. I always give my cousin encouragement that changes her mind about the way she feels about herself, and instead of negative thoughts about herself, I try to get her to think positively. If it is the clothes for example, that makes her feel that way, we go shopping and by a new outfit. One that shows her cute figure but also makes her feel better about the way she looks. My cousin has thoughts like your daughter and to be frank she has the body that us adults envy. She has gotten an offer for modeling before but he dad wouldn't let her do it. I hope this has been informative for you.

Thanks a lot. I have watched a few of her talk shows and thought it was a great message she was sending. Too bad here the show is during the day when preteens are at school. But then to see her send a different message in the evening with the top model is strange and I think they are very different messages in the two shows. Also I do think even if there wasn't a show like this, this could be something she would go through at this age and it is such a hard time for girls and their body images at this time. I just wish the message Tyra gave in one show would pass on to the other show, that is the one the preteens want to watch. Thanks so much for your insight!
