Do you leave your lights on for your pets when you are not at home?

If you are not going to be home, do you still leave your lights on - just for them? Do they notice if the lights are on or not? What kind of pets do you have?

I do leave my light on for my pets. Usually in one room of two....soft ambient light....I believe that they feel better with lights on...:)

I have a cat and a dog. Now, when we do go out of town, we take the dog along, and the cat we leave at home for my sister to look in on. It is Me who feels better that I have left the TV on in one of the rooms, and the Lights, we rotate which are on. I miss kitty so much, and I am just sure that he is desperately and hopelessly pining away in my absence. Isn't he?

He is for sure. When I was away with my dogs, my cat was alone for 2 days only, but she was crying loudly when we get back...making story of her lonely days...

I don't leave the lights on but I do however leave the television on. A couple of them like to watch Animal Planet. I have a Brittany Spaniel, two German Shepherds, an Irish Setter, and a Northern Inuit. Four large dogs and an extra large dog.

A Northern Inuit would be an excellent dog for around here (Northern Minnesota) We have a whopping -4 degrees temperature today. That's below zero. Not counting the windchill factor. They must be the original sled dog! Got any pictures?

Once in a while I leave a light on if I'm going to be gone in the evening. Usually it's the flourescent light over the kitchen sink, and it's more for my convenience rather than for the pets. My daughter just got a new puppy, and now that it's confined at night, in the kitchen, I leave the light on all night now. I don't leave the tv on for them, but when my daughter leaves in the morning for work, the puppy starts whining, so I told her when she leaves to turn on the kitchen tv on low. Seems to have worked at least, no more 6am whining hahaha. She falls right back asleep and doesn't feel as lonely. The things we do for our pets lol! I have a 6 year old German Shepherd, the new little shitzupoo puppy, and 2 extremely old (and extremely huge) indoor cats. (by huge, I mean they're as big as the Shitzupoo, and weigh about 15 or so pounds!) They all get along real good together and are good companions.

You are so fortunate that your pup settles down and goes back to sleep! Some people have such a terrible time with the whining. I think it is a good idea not to 'cave' in to them. Love them lots, but let them know they can be by themselves and it will be ok.

No, I've never done that. I have 3 cats and a dog. When we are not at home, our dog (which is really a puppy) goes in her kennel, and the cats roam around. I do know people that will leave the tv on for their dog, but I odn't even do that. I guess, if I was going to be gone for a long period of time, like sevreal days or something I might leave the tv on, because apparently, animals think that is company.
