Have read, more than once, articles about how watching fish swim in a bowl or small tank will decrease blood pressure. I did ask a physician once about it and he also agreed. Have you heard about this theory?

White waiting in a doctor's office who has a fish tank, I've noticed my mind is blank while watching the fish swim. Does help reduce stress. Thanks for responding.

Exercise for many people is relaxing but not for me. I must get tense while on the treadmill. I do better walking outdoors. Thanks for responding.

I have never heard that exactly but I have heard lots of relaxing activities can lower blood pressure. I don't believe it is the answer or solution to a serious problem though. I would assume diet and exercise would be the long term answer for that and possibly medication prescribe be a doctor for some people. But now that I think about it; if this world would just slow down like enough to enjoy the life around them then maybe there would be a whole lot less high blood pressure diagnosed.

I've had high blood pressure and on meds for about 20 years. I do watch what I eat and am not overweight. Nothing much worked for me but I do recall feeling the calming effects of watching fish. swim. Yes, it wouldn't hurt us to slow down a bit. Goes back to the saying, "hurry up and wait." Thanks for responding.

Hi carolbee, I haven’t heard of this theory before. Thanks for sharing your valuable information with us here. I believe this could really work to decrease the blood pressure by watching the swimming fish in the tank. I did learn from an article that a person who did weeding patiently in the courtyard for a certain period found that he his blood pressure lowered prettily. I believe these are similar activities which could make a person in a relaxed and peaceful manner which would definitely cause the lowering of blood pressure.

It's suppose to really work although I have not tested this theory myself. I get sleepy if I watch fish swim so that tells me something. Thanks for responding.

I hadn't heard about this one but I have heard petting a cat is supposed to lower your blood pressure. I have two cats but I don't know if it works or not. Maybe if I didn't have them I'd have to increase my medication! Annie

Hello dear carolbee. I have never read about this kind of theory, but it is interesting to know about this. I hope that it is true indeed so that I can tell my sister to keep some goldfish in a fishbowl for her to sometimes watch to help the decrease of her suffering from high blood pressure till she is completely recovered...Thanks for this information.

Hi carolbee, I have not come across this theory. There seems to be logic and science behind this theory. When you concentrate(like in meditation) on some thing that interests you, you develop calmness which brings down the blood pressure. If you do this regularly I am sure it bring down blood pressure to normal. Another Important thing is related in this that is enjoyment. I am sure that everybody enjoy the way the fish swim, which some times bring happiness to the person. Keeping all this, it is sure that the method is good. I will try, because I am a hypertension person. I thank you for having provided an information like this. Good Luck.

I find just watching water to be relaxing. Sitting on a beach and watching the water is something I like to do. Standing in the water near a beach with fish around the feet is also calming. Thanks for responding.

Hi Carolbee, I've never heard this before, but it is very calming to sit and watch fish swim, so I can see the reasoning behind these articles. I also get the same calming feeling when I sit at the beach at just listen and watch the waves rolling in. Sure, I definately believe this to be true!

I do believe it also. We use to have a small tank and it would make me sleepy watching the little goldfish swimming. Thanks for responding.
