Looks like on the Democrat side it was Obama, Edwards and a suprizing 3rd place for Clinton. On the republican side, Huckabee won, with Romney taking 2nd place and Fred Thompson was the suprise for the Republicans, taking 3rd over front runners Guiliani and McCain. Of course, this is just the first event in the U.S. Presidential Olympics, so I doubt we'll see any front runners dropping out, but it is cool to see two upsets already.

Yes, congrats to them both. Quite a coup for Obama, and a wake up call for Hillary. Hillary's campaign is not yet in trouble, but compared to where we'd thought she'd be, she has to be worried It's hard to assess Huckabee's win, with Giuliani focusing on later caucuses (cauci?).. I think Romney star has waned. But as you say, there's a way to go. Definitely an interesting race.

What is the point of caucuses anyway? Just to show one of those "if the election was today" scenerios, what would happen? I don't care who wins as long as it's not Obama Bin Laden. I do not like what he stands for, who he sides with or what he's about. If anything, I'd love to see Hucakbee win. I'm from Arkansas and it'd be nice to have another Arkie in the White House.

Win as in win the actual Presidential race not as in win the caucus.

FYI - the story I read said that Thompson and McCain were tied for third.

This is just the beginning and I think it's going to be an interesting campaign. The one thing I'm sorry about is that Biden and Dodd dropped out so soon. It's a shame because I think they both had a lot to offer. Thee almighty dollar wins again! Annie

now the race becomes interesting. the favorites or front-runners did not win the Iowa caucus. for democrats, clinton is seen as the favorite to win the nomination, but her third place finish is an upset. for republicans, rudy guillani did not take part and instead concentrated on the new hampshire caucus. the excitement is only starting.
