I never put a password for my user in the computer but I know some people do it even if they have not security problems. And you? Do you insert a password at startup or no one?

We use passwords on this computer even although it is completely pointless as two of us can go in and change passwords. I don't know why we do it but I suppose if the computer ever got stolen it might help.

I don't think so: maybe a good hacker could at least format your hard disk and reuse it.

it's helpful in case it got stolen to protect your personal data, most of people that steals comp are not hackers, they just want to make money.

A password can be a good idea for certain cases. I have no password on my home computer - none of us do in our computers. But I do have a password on my laptop. I take it to school and I have student files there. It's just in case, and it wouldn't really stop any snooping from someone that knew what they're doing, but it just feels better that way:)

Yes. It wouldn't stop a person that knows what to do but it certainly can stop any snoopy students :):)

You are doing right. A friend of mine told me about her classmates trying to spy in the teacher's computer while she was on the phone in another room, so for you teacher is better to have vigilance of your personal files.

I password-protect my office laptop but the one that I'm using at home doesn't have any password. At work it's one of the requirements for us to set a password for our computers.

I don't insert a password on startup and I haven't even a personal user in my PC and laptop. Everyone in the family can read everyone stuff, you know.

I think it is nice and secure to have a personal password when sharing the computer with others. In this way nobody could be able to access our private and confidential information. Anyhow I never set any password for my computer which is solely for my personal use.

There is a non-secure password on my computer so that it is easy for me to type in when I get on. If someone can break into my house have the alarm go off and have time to forcably break my password on my computer... all the more power to them.

I have my side of the computer behind a password, but the wife doesn't. On my part, I think it is just one of my weird boundary issues. I hate people rearranging my icons and stuff like that. Growing up in a family of eight kids, I learned to make my own space because privacy was so rare. My wife knows what I have on my side of the computer; she probably could even guess my password.

I had a password but I took it off when my mum needed to use my computer and zoomplayer aplication on guest account refused to read subtitles. i didn't want to spend my time in search of apropriate configuration and simply took my pasword off. I only used it to show one cute icon I found on the net and set as my acount avatar, anyway xD

I do have to put a password in order to access my computer. I never know who could be around and there are things on my computer that I don't want others to access. Keeping a password ensures tht nobody will be looking at my information or getting on my computer with out my permission.

i used a password for a long time, to protect from curious people same with my mobile. In the last few months I took pwd off as I don't have a cleaning lady anymore.

I have got just 1 password on my laptop. It's only got the one cos otherwise it would have made it harder to remember for me especially when I can tell you that I have lots of trouble remembering anyway

I give password to open my user area. But if other members of my family want to use my computer they can open and log in any time. Password for my own user area is to maintain some security of some important files, some photo that I get and send to my friends and so on.
