Public Awareness programs – Not respected

Many many public awareness programs organized to educate people why burning of waste in open places should not be done as it brings health hazard. Those who suffer from Asthma if happen to inhales the smoke cause breathing problem and the smoke effects two wheeler riders in controlling their vehicles if it is windy day the smoke will pass in direction and the houses which are closed to the burning site will be affected.
It is always safe dumping our waste in a pit and keeps covered until corporation people come to collect it. People feeling easy burn them in front of their houses.
It is better to have a law passed to prevent this bad habit of burning the waste in open places.
If people do not realize a thing which is declared best for them the only alternative is the law to enforce the public to stop doing it.

why u always focus metropolitan area in ur chat
why u forget that mostly population is villagees and non developed area where there is no proper system of waste (or solid waste) collection. how can they wait for such thing
and all they can do is burn it to get rid of it and rest are being dummped to the nearest empty plot. and this can be found even in metro politan area. and not to mention at some places u can find muncipal committee guys burning solid waste who are there actually to collect it
so it need lot of time to improve

We have a law in place in our county that says we can no longer burn trash in a barrel or on the ground. I am glad of this in a way but I sure do still like to build a good bomb fire.

In many places, the dry leaves are burnt. In some areas, the solid waste including plastic covers are burnt. Both emanate horrizble smoke which are really dangerous even for the common man to inhale it, lest Asthama patients.
People who burn are the local ones and occasionally the lazy civic worker. They should be caught red handed and capital punishment should be levied on them, so that it does gets repeated.
To make it effective, each locality should have citizen commtitees, some have and effectively stopped such things.
What the civic workers/public are not avware is that the dried leaves if put in the pit, can produce good manure.

You are right about that.

Some waste is also so toxic that it can get into and contaminate soil and ground water. Some you are not allowed to bury, or toss in trash.

Public education in this country is in a state of disrepair. People don't read labels. If they do, they ignore the instructions. Companies have resorted to putting the absurd on labels to get the neglectful to read them. "Do not crawl inside dryer" is a personal favorite...
