Which role would you prefer to play in a movie, cop or criminal?Me, I have always liked wise guys in the movies. I would play a villain. A smart, vicious, cruel villain. It would be more fun than playing a cop.How about you?

I used to be an actor; still am in theory. I only ever appeared on film in low budget and no budget enterprises; but I was in a colossal amount of plays. In these I almost never played typical nice guy/good guys; I was a character actor, and the people I excelled in playing were deeply flawed people of every kind, and I was exceptionally good at this. Ask me to play a two-dimensional nice guy, and although I was OK, I simply didn't shine. In the end, I was only ever cast as people with serious achilles heels. I used to research these to within an inch of their lives; and may have gone too far. I should have waited until I was famous...;o) Which I never became, but not for lack of trying...Mind you, in a way that's no bad thing. My heart really goes out to famous people. They have everything; and yet, who is there for them when they hurt? Sorry, I digress...no, playing good guys was never for me...but...maybe now it could be...?

I think you're right. The actors I respect the most are those like Robert de Niro and Daniel Day Lewis who prepare to the nth degree. I love that...I mean that they take their work seriously. I'd love to play a Bogie style part; in fact did once...years ago, some of us updated a Shakespeare play to the Casablanca of the 40s: not an original thing to do but at the time it seemed to be. Somewhere there's a VHS copy of one of our performances!

No with your resume, I would cast you as a anti hero like bogey in Casablanca or Key Largo.A good guy yes but he has flaws. And I don't think you can Over research a part.Whatever prepares you to be in the moment you should do.

I love Skakespeare. It can be great to update his plays. I have Kevin Kline's Hamlet, it was done in 20th century dress and with very little art direction. And I have Ian's Richard III, where it is set in Germany in the 30's.

Well, if you put it that way, who wouldn't want to be the criminal? It would really suck though if the cop somehow ended up as one of those super lucky blubbering idiots that somehow manage to unwittingly save the day. By chance. Most of the time. I like those criminal roles where it doesn't seem like they are the criminals. They have a certain suaveness about them that makes you like them too much. Like Pierce Brosnan's role in the Thomas Crown Affair. I like how he managed to make stealing a priceless painting so easy.

Have you seen the original Thomas Crown Affair starring Steve McQueen? He was a suave bad guy. You would like it.

Casting against type always works.

Hello sarahruthbeth22!:-) It would be quite interesting to see you in the role of villain. I already believe that you are very smart and intelligent but you will have to work on other listed traits. As for me, well, I think that it's always more challenging to be a cop (+ detective) and I love challenges. You must have noticed that it generally takes more time to solve a case than to plan one. The reason is very simple as a cop has to join all missing links and has to reconstruct the details to solve a mystry. In short, a cop must be smarter than a smart villain to catch him in shortest possible time. So, I would love to be a cop in the movie where you are playing villain. But, you must be careful because I already know (though little) some of your personality traits, so I need not smarter than you as such!:-)

Knowing me, I would just buy my share of cops so you have to catch me alone. You will have to be a lone good cop on the force, like Dirty Harry. I disagree about the planning of a crime. The longer you work on something, the better you can close the loopholes. It will be a little harder to solve.

Haha, do whatever you like, I'll catch you anyway!:-) don't you know that a movie usually has a happy ending with the criminal finally caught and the cop's chest decorated with a medal? :-P You know, joining dots requires a smart, coherent, analytical and powerful mind and sometimes even that's not enough, one also may need the knowledge of psychology of a criminal. That's what makes it hard to solve a case planned by a smart criminal, because there are too few loopholes to join dots and arrive at conclusion. There are many, many cases in the history of crime that are still unresolved even after decades. There are even cases, where law enforcement personal believe that certain criminal did it but they can't prove it!:-) But, I'll prove anyway, however smart you maybe. Afterall, story must end happily and successfully:-)

I've played both (thanks to imagination, writing, self-imposition, reading, gaming) I'd probably pick villain over hero, but only slightly. For all the heroes I've seen and even a few I created, the villain can have quite an allure (Khan Noonien Singh, Kruge, Kefka Palazzo, Wiegraf Folles, Gul Dukat, Char Aznabel, "*" [yes that's its name], Mitochondria Eve, Deus X, and much more). Again, heroes are nice, but there are times villainy is quite a treat for an active imagination.

Personally, I like the oddball characters - Like Cramer, Joey, or Hands...

For me, I would enjoy the role of the villain as well. I think that for me it's totally immersing myself in someone I am not and getting to act like I would do things that I never get to do or act in a way that is not my character. Part of acting is getting to be someone you are not, so I think that although I am not a cop either, that there are aspects of being a villian that I would never do or be like in real life.

I would like to act as a cop because I can focus to act it. It is not easy to act the evil character when you are not such a person:)

I would rather be the cop. I like doing investigative research.....and would like to get to go to a lab and see how they figure things out by DNA now. I once was a security specialist......and love it!

What fun would it be to play the good guy? I would wanna be the bad guy. One of those characters people hate you so much they love you. That would be a blast.
