Just over a week ago I was feeling unwell with aches and pains and a temperature and my back was very sore. The general consensus was that I had overdone it on the treadmill. I went to see the district nurse yesterday because my back was really bad and she arranged for me to see the doctor in the next town that afternoon. I hadn't seen this doctor before and I liked him immediately. He ordered full bloods and back x-rays and I was so relieved because I thought, at last, I might be able to get to the bottom of why for a very long time Ive ached in all my joints and muscles and why I can't lose weight. After my shower last night I caught sight of myself in the bathroom mirror....something I normally avoid, lol...and I was pimply! On further investigation I noticed spots on my arms and legs...one or two on my chest and belly but mostly arms and legs. I went back to the clinic today for my blood tests and got to see the doc without an appointment. He was amazed and doesn't know what they are. They look like measles which I had when I was a kid, but there is chicken pox going round which I've been in contact with several times and never caught. They are slightly itchy but no blisters and my lips and gums feel funny. How weird am I?? Have you had any of those diseases...measles, mumps or chicken pox...anything else? I can actually remeber having measles and the doctor coming to the house when I was about 4-5. I felt really special with all the attention...lol.

Chicken Pox - Nothing to do with chickens
I had the chiken pox when I was 7...no measles or mumps. My husband and son had the chicken pox around 3 years back...and your symptoms sound very similar to what they had....though my son had it mild (maybe because he was younger than my husband). I had a hard time managing both of them down (back to back)....we knew my son would catch it when my husband came down with chicken pox and I informed his school and he was quaratined. In fact, we were hoping he would catch it then and not have it when he was older....because we were always wondering if my husband would catch it since he never had it as a child.

As if you knew that they were carriers! But men tend to be baies when they are ill and have no idea what they say! Chicken pox is highly contagious....it' surprising that your grandson could be a carrier and not have got it himself. Maybe your husband caught it from someone else (and he didn't know).

I don't think it's really strange that my grandson didn't get it...do you know why? The answer is because I didn't catch it either. I didn't catch it as a child, I didn't catch it when my children had it and I didn't catch it when my partner caught it.

I think it's good if everyone gets them at once. I remember once, my daughter was visiting with her kids during school holidays. When she went home again she rang to say that half of my grandson's class had not returned to school due to chicken pox...my grandson didn't have it. But, I had a premonition and sure enough, my partner came down with it. My grandson must have been a carrier of the diseese. Talk about crook. My poor guy had sores EVERYWHERE and they were so itchy. Even his scalp was full of them and he had sores on his lips and in his mouth. And guess what? He got shirty with ME for having my family to stay.

Are you taking any medications? It sounds like a rash that I get from being allergic to certain medications. Sorry about all your troubles!

Yep, had them all! I actually had the mumps in all 6 saliva glands, in sucession, so I wasn't as sick as most kids are when they get it, but I was sick for a LOT longer - about 2 weeks. Pretty bad when you don't feel totally terrible, but your too sick to go anywhere, play with your friends, etc. And I got it in the summer so, while I didn't miss school, I did miss a number of other things.

First I want to ask is it chicken pox? I know that they are supposed to be worse with age. I was in 6th grade when I got chicken pox. It was right around thanksgiving vacation becuase I couldn't go to my grams for dinner becuase she never had chicken pox and was in her 60's I think and didn't want it. I don't blame her it was awful I was fevery achey and ichey. not to mention they looked like pimples so it was really bothersome. Nothing seemed to give me relief I spent as much time as I could sleeping. I did end up with some scarring from the chicken pox. Well I hope you are feeling better and that it's not the chicken pox becuase that is never good.

Not sure what it was Bella. It may have been just a mild form of it as I wasn't itchy all over, just here and there some of the time. But I was feverish and very achy. I also slept a lot off and on and I truly think this is the best thing. As I said to someone else....sleep is the bodie's own way of healing itself.

I remember getting chicken pox when I was twelve it was awful, I was a tomboy and hated staying in the house all that time and the itching was unbearable. Me, my brother and my stepdad was quite cranky for awhile my mom didn't get it though. I have heard it is more dangerous for adults to get it then children I don't know why but I heard that somewhere. Well I am hoping that you will be feeling better soon.

I don't think it's more dangerous for adults but I believe the symptoms can be heightened or worse, I guess. I remember my partner was extremely cranky when he had chicken pox and that was very much out of character. I'm pretty sure it's not chicken pox or measles. The spots have nearly gone and I was feeling pretty good but this afternoon my back flared up again and it's hurting bad still. This is weird.

Sweetie, Have you been checked for Lyme disease? All of your' symptoms with this rash sound iffy to me. If not Lyme, then maybe have this new doc look into the possibility of fibro. Not trying to scare you. I have fibro and my muscles and joints ache all of the time. But the symptoms are the same wether it's fibro or Lyme (except Lyme can give you a rash) I hope it's niether and you get some relief!

SAweety, I haven't been checked for anything. My dodctors have just said I need to lose weight. The other day I insisted on trying to ascertain what was behind all my pain, so my dr ordered fulkl bloods taken. This rash thing is something else and I think I'm over it now. There still has to be some reason why I ache all over all the time. Thanks mate.

No, I seem to be over it now. Now that tomorrow I'm having x-rays on my back, it's been the best in a long time today. I'm hoping there's something out of place and that it's been flaring up badly of late. There has to be some reason my back is sore all the time.

I have had measles, mumps and chicken pox. I especially remember the chicken pox. My poor Mom. I have 5 siblings and they got the chicken pox along with me at the same time. 6, young and sick children, at once. I don't know how she did it. To this day we all tell our own version of the story to each other and Mom can laugh!! PEACE

There's an adult form of Chicken pox that you can get. The name escapes me right now but I've heard (as my great grandmother had them) that they are really painful. It's quite possible, if you've never had them before...it could be chicken pox. I've had chicken pox. that's about it. Oh and some weird rash called the "Fifth Disease"

Adult chicken pox is called Herpes Zoster. Or, also shingles. The spots weren't sore or painful and did not form blisters so we still don't know what it was. I've never heard of "Fifth Disease".

Yeah! Shingles, that's it. My great grandmother had them and i know they're terrible. Not many people have. It's a viral illness... more common in children (I was 7 when I had it) and sometimes it causes a rash to appear. It's supposedly rare... and I remember when i had it, i was in the hospital with all these doctors looking at me and studying me!

Shingles! That is the other thing that I was thinking when I said Hives in my previous reply. That was my first thought when you mentioned pain and a rash/spots. Either way, I hope it does not get worse and it heals fast and you are better soon.

I had the chicken pox really bad when I was younger. My husband said he didn't remember ever having them as a child. They say it's worse if you get them as an adult so if our son ever gets them then chances are my husband will too. I wonder what you have? I hope you start feeling better and the spots go away.

I do remember your discussion about you having aching muscles and you were feeling bad...I cannot understand why you have spots on you, that is strange..Do you think maybe it is some type of alergy? I know that doctors that know the skin and what happens to the skin should be able to help you.Maybe you should see an alergy doctor or a skin specialist..I am glad that you liked the doctor and that he took test of you.I am sure that he will recommend you to a skin specialist if he is unable to come up with what is causing this..let us know if you find out and what it is...best of luck to you ms tickle, and go get this taken care of soon...

I am sorry you are having such a hard time. There are so many different things it could be. Chicken pox, Hives, stress allergic reaction. I would keep an eye on it and if you get any other symptoms or it gets worse go back to your doctor. Maybe try to take some benadryl and if its an allergic reaction that should help it. I hope you feel better soon.

It's not shingles. I saw an elderly lady withj shingles once. She had a nasty red angry spotty rash across her belly and she said it was itchy, and very painful. She was waiting to be admitted to hospital so she could be sedated and treated.
