Jean Merola is the 75-year-old grandmother from Florida. She was arrested outside of McDonald's. She ordered fries and coffee. She asked for her fries without salt. McDonald's told her to move up and they would bring out her order. The police officer behind her received his order, but when he asked her to move up so he could get around her, she didn't respond to him. When he asked her for her license she told him, "You are an evil man. Your wife is going to divorce you. Your kids probably hate you, too. You are going to hell." UPDATE: Merola was handcuffed behind her back and put in the cruiser. Another officer arrived and took her to the Pinellas County Jail . Merola said she was searched, photographed, and fingerprinted. "I was under arrest because I was in a wrong parking place. I says well, they told me to park here," Merola said. Jail records show she was released about 90 minutes later on her own recognizance. Sources say she was arrested for disorderly conduct. Now it seems she is also planning to sue over the incident. Merola’s attorney says an initial review of the arrest report shows his client did not commit a crime. “There is always civil liability when someone is arrested without cause. Mrs. Merola has never been in a lawsuit is not litigious by nature,” attorney Steven Andrews said.

I am glad she was let go, but she still had no right to say those things to the cop.

This is America. We have something called free speech. That means she has the right to say whatever she wants, no matter how rude, insulting, or unnecessary. If people didn't have the right to talk that way, the overcrowding in our jails would be even more ridiculous then people claim it already is. Exercising the right to free speech is not a crime.

We are supposed to be in a country where we can say what we like. She should not have been arrested at all but she should of gotten a warning for the way that she spoke to the officer as it was disrespectful.

This is a free country we can say what we feel like saying , they should not have arrested this old woman because of what she said, she was just irritated. The jails are already full of criminals. I do not think however she will win her lawsuit..

She was out of line for what she said to the police but it still sounds like they overreacted.
