I have heard its good to eat a bowl of oatmeal or Cheerios each day. What do you think? I have been eating Cheerios for one month every day and have lost a few pounds. I eat them as a snack in the evening. Any other health types would be great. I'm trying to be healthy this year.

id heard that you can lower your cholesterol by eating oatmeal or cheerios, but not that you could lose weight! is it just the plain oatmeal and plain cheerios that you can lose weight with? or any of them? im gonna have to try that! i can eat oatmeal and/or cheerios for breakfast and lunch everyday no problem if it means losing weight lol!

I'm eating the plain ones and really amazed at the weight loss. I am still eating 5 small meals a day, which means less food over the day. Last year, I was eating 3 big meals a day and lots of calories and fats. I needed to make a change, as my daughter and I had gained weight over the year. Thanks for the reply.

When my twins were infants up until three months ago, their main staple diet was oatmeal, more or less. Now that they are getting older, they really love cheerios much more. They also are learning to feed themselves which is really cool.

Thanks for the reply. I use to love oatmeal, but now really enjoying crunching on food. I'm not sure why I feel fuller when eating Cheerios than oatmeal.

I have been eating oatmeal once a day and also I put a handful of frozen blueberries into my oatmeal. Both the oatmeal and blueberries are supposed to help lower cholesterol. I have also been trying to eat foods that have no transfat. It is amazing how many of the foods I had previously enjoyed were laden with transfat. Of course, many foods say 'no transfat' yet if one looks at the ingredients there are ingredients known to have transfat (partially hydrogenated oils etc). This is because if there is less than a certain amount in a serving, the manufacturer is allowed to say 'zero traansfat.' However, if a person eats several foods each day with this small amount, it begins to add up! Therefore, I read the ingredients and avoid those products that have partially hydrogenated oils and other ingredients that have transfat!

I agree that transfats are in many foods. I had to start reading labels after finding out my daughter can't eat any dairy and was surprised to find that we were eating really terrible. I make a lot of food myself now and we both feel and look better. Thanks for the reply.

yes, I believe it is very healthful to eat cheerios (provided they are not full of sugar) especially tasty as a snack and much better than some other quick to grab alternatives. oatmeal is good (again without all the butters or sugars) not only for your heart but to help keep you satiated as you go through your day - my mother would always claim that "it sticks to your ribs"

I'm eating the plain ones right out of the box as a snack. I honestly ate so much bad food that 2008 is the year of major life changes. I want to drop a size and still eat 5 small meals a day. Thanks for the good wishes.

I just love them both. If in the mood for hot cereal, it's the oats, if cold cereal day, it's the Cheerios! I follow the oats directions and wait for the water to boil which makes the oats a bit more coarse and perhaps not cooked all the way through, even if you boil them for a while. My boyfriend likes to put the oats in the water prior to boiling and I think that makes the oats too mushy. If it's a healthier year you are looking for, I'd go with the oatmeal. Cream of wheat is real good as well. Anderson's General Store used to sell a hot cereal called Cream of the West. I have not seen it for a while, but it is real, real good! Hummm, I am getting hungry :)

Sometimes I’ll have oatmeal but not in the morning because I don’t like eating in the morning except having coffee. I usually have it during snack time. I love it with milk and sugar. I haven’t tried Cheerios (poor me) but I’ve seen them in the grocery but never tried.

I eat oatmeal three times a day because it's the only grain that I can eat without getting headaches. I haven't had my cholesterol checked in a very long time, so I don't know if it's lowered it or not. It wasn't much of a problem, anyway. I don't eat Cheerios because they put too much sugar and salt in it for my tastes. Plus, I tend to eat the whole box of cereal in just a couple of days, so it's not worth buying it for me.

Trying to eat healthier too. Maybe i will find out from my dietition. I like both too. I eat my oatmeal, with as little sugar as possible, fruit is a good substitiute to add instead of sugar to both ceareals.

I don't eat either one on a regular basis. I love oatmeal cookies. I have been told that both of these items are healthy and good for lowering colesterol levels. I snack on fruit and cheese.

As a mother to a toddler we eat lots of oatmeal and cheerios. It does help with wieght loss. I think its becuase they are fairly low in calories and if I eat them, i am not snacking on junk food. plus Cheerios has lots of vitamins in them that are good for you. I have also read that the whole grain help keep the cholestol levels down.

For me I eat two or three apples and maybe a orange or grapefruit for my breakfast. But I think it would be mcuh easier for alot of people to go the Cheerios route, if by now people were eating their fruits regularly you think they would have any ground? Maybe you can try some good quality maple syrup to put on top of your oatmeal just don't drown it. Whenever your able to limit your calories or increase your physical activity (they say only 30 minutes a day which definately works!) then your going to lose weight. I do like the more extreme detox diets because they make me feel sooo good and 10 pounds lighter. I am not some health fanatic or some person that does Yoga but I am a Virgo and its just nature. All that food we eat everyday is loaded with SALT let alone the fat and it makes you bloated as ever and Im a big advocate of fruit because fruits have an astringent effect to your body. But NEVER eat fruit on top of other food, starches or meats. Thats why I always start out eating my fruits upon waking up because its easier. By noon thats when I'll have a large bowl of sweet potatoes to fit in vegetables. I think this is the easiest way to get these foods in if your not a fan of fruits and vegetables. Basically, I follow the 'Natural Hygiene' Model because I think the most important part of keeping a good weight is to KEEP everything moving through your body. Before I knew about Natural Hygiene, before I had kids, i was always going going going. I rode my bike like it was a BMW, which is the best habit and so good for your heart and I cant wait to get my kids up and on a bike. I guzzled alot of Propel Fitness Waters and used Advantage Bars, but when your physical active you CRAVE food ALOT LESS. Just keep experimenting and find what works for you. There is no concrete model if your limiting your calories and fruits and vegetable can give you a headstart. I love maple syrup and sweet potatoes.
