Do you have an Aldi's? Do you shop there?

I am pretty sure Aldi's is an international store... They sell things really cheap...but they carry virtually no "name" brands (they have their own brands like mama casa and kirkwood)...they also make you put a quarter in the shopping cart so you return it to the store...and you have to bring or buy your own bags or boxes!! I think their stuff is pretty good, though some things are not always cheaper...it is also tougher to shop there with kids since you can't just leave the cart in the lot...I wish they had more healthier foods (like sugar free/whole wheat/etc.) and also some items in bulk quantities...but I guess that's what Costco & Sam's club are for... So what do you think? Do you have an Aldi's? Do you like shopping there? Do you think you save money shopping there?

we have an aldi's store near us. i shop there once a month maybe. it has great items alot cheaper than the normal grocery store. Its true that the shopping cart thing is a pain, but at least they are not left out in the lot to hit your car. and you do get your quuarter back! I always take a laundry basket with me in my trunk and then after shopping i don't get bags, i just throw it back in the cart and out to the car i go, then throw it in the laundry basket,, and just bring that in,. much easier than bags. You really do save a great deal on various items. But, i always go to the grocery store we normally go to even with aldi. I really like their fabric softener,... it smells and works exactly like downey. their coffee is cheaper and tastes great.. and i think our aldis has a great fresh produce dept. My son hates to go with me,,,he calls it the "poor store"! Its ashame it has that stigma,, but im never to embarrassed to save money!

in the summer their watermelons are so good! usually only 2.99 each, for seedless. its crazy expensive everywhere else for those. i also buy their cream of mushroom soups, and their off brand of chips. No one in our family can tell that they are not Jays, when i put them in a cool bowl..and when you have teenagers with friends,, that eat everything you have in the cabinets, i refuse to buy expensive snacks,, at least they dont know they are not expensive!!

they do have good produce...I bought bananas for 37 cents a pound!! (49 cents everywhere else)... the laundry basket is a great idea! I will have to try that next time I shop there!

I just came from the website. I had never heard of this store and there is not one near me in California. It looks like a pretty nice store though. I like to go to Smart&Final for my bulk items. They have pretty reasonable prices, but they do not sell all of the things that are at Aldi's, like digital cameras.

There is an Aldi's opening up on Friday near me actually....I've been to one before when I was in Ohio and I liked alot of the prices..The whole no name brands, quarter for your cart and boxing yourself is a concept I'm very familiar with since that what all the No Frills stores back home are like so thats not a big deal at all....I'm actually kinda excited about checking out the new Aldi's :-D

Carrefour - Carrefour a discount store chain for food with own brand
I haven't seen in France or Spain. Most common in those countries is Carrefour a French chain that does about the same including the shopping cart with coins and bags to buy and reuse. I do like to shopping at them and guess I save some money thru low prices or fidelity card.

We have an Aldi's not too far from here, but I hardly ever go there. I do most of my grocery shopping at either Wal-Mart or Schnucks. I do not like having to go all the across the parking lot at Aldi's to return the cart to in front of the store when I have the kids with me. Which is almost every time I go shopping.

yeah, the whole no bags cart thing is tough with kids...i did with a baby in my arm the whole time this morning!! super wal-mart is great, but i tend to spend more than I should when I go there stocking up on things we could probably do without...if I shop at more expensive stores I just don't buy it, which really saves the $$$...thx for your response!

I live in NY and I have never even heard of this place, it sounds great!! I love stores like that they are so much more fun to shop at, especially when you are getting such great deals. The only down side to stores like that though are sometimes I feel like I'm spending more money because I know that everything is so cheap.... I've never heard of the brand Mama Casa, but I believe I had heard of Kirkwood-- do they make bottled water or something of the sort?

It's easy to confuse with Costco's storebrand Kirkland...that is probably where you may have seen it if you don't have an Aldi's nearby... thanks for the response!

Yes we have an Aldi's where we live and we shop there sometimes. Now that Save-A-Lot closed down here we will be shopping more there. We mostly shop at Wal-Mart but there fruits and veggies are way too expensive so we get them at Aldi's. There are a lot of things we buy their instead of Wal-Mart but we get the majority of our food at Wal-Mart like meat, pop, cereal, and other stuff. I don't mind having to put the quarter in the cart cause you get it back anyway and no biggie about the bags since Save-A-Lot did the same thing. I really didn't like Save-A-Lot but my hubby doesn't like Aldi's much. We both prefer Wal-Mart mostly. :)

Yep, it's been a life saver frequently. It used to be mainly a lifesaver on milk -- one of our biggest expenses. But now it's a good saver on snacks and lunches, stuff that gets us by to the next pay day.

Here in Germany we have an Aldi on every corner you go. I don't like it very much because they have not everything I need and there is no healthy food. Otherwise Aldi is a good alternative if you don't have a lot of money to spend for life.

Yeah, I noticed there is not too much healthy other than their produce either!

We have an Aldi in New Jersey near where I live but I haven't gone to it. Years ago when I lived in Ohio we would shop at our local Aldi every once in awhile. We only bought certain things in there so we did save money.

I live in England. Aldi is very popular here.I do buy fruits, vegetables, milk and yogurt. They are very competetive against giant supermarkets.Electronics are very good value as they are usually made in Germany and comes with 3 year gurantees.Frozen pizzas are very cheap ans tasty too.Only draw back is you just carried away and buy things which are not essential and find no where to store at home! And they stopped selling stuff which contain Hydrogenated Vegetable oils and they do mark 'suitable for vegetarians' on food stuff which I appreciate very much.

I love shopping at Aldi's! I can do so much better there. The only thing I don't like is that they don't have that great of a variety of meats. My kids love going with me because I don't tell them no when they are filling my cart with goodies. :-)
