Our sense of smell is the only one of the five senses that goes directly to our brain, (or so I've heard) which is probably why most people are so quickly affected by smells. Ladies, if a man walks by wearing a nice cologne, we can't help but be affected by it! (I also heard women are more affected by smell than men.) Are men still affected by sense of smell also? What have you heard and/or read about our sense of smell? What is your favorite smell? How does your favorite smell affect you? What is the worst thing you have ever smelled? How did that affect you?

I do not use scent or perfume so if I walk in front of you will not find any artificial spell but one smell you will get that is friendship smell..lol I am a man so cannot say how smell affect to women but I can say women has bad smell or not in her body than man, they are fond of to use smell to generate attraction of man or boy friend so they use perfume and other scents more than men. Bad smell of socks seems to me more worst than woman's private parts smell.

I agree that dirty and even wet socks can smell quite bad! I think women typically just like to smell good and are paranoid about the way they smell, that's why they put on perfume. It's a more feminine thing to do, not so much because they smell bad. I think they're just self-conscious about the way the smell in general. It's just the way women are, I guess!

well let me give you some informations about how we smell.the nasal sensory organ has a membrane over it.each tupe of smell has a molecular structure of its own.good smell has a smooth molecular structure whereas bad smell has a very rough, spiky structure.when we breathe in the smell the molecule of that smeel enters and settles on the membrane.if its a good smell it sit smoothly and if its a bad one it irritates the membrane and thats when we can recognize it as a bad smell.and as far as i know it is not yet scientifically proved that women are more sensitive than men.....

Thank you for the information! I feel so much smarter now. (LOL) Yes, I understand that women may not be more sensitive to smell, but I did hear something about women being more stimulated (physically/sexually) through smell than men. If you have any more information about this topic, I'd love to hear it! Thanks again for sharing. The whole thing about good smells vs. bad smells makes sense to me now.

I love the smell of freshly mowed grass after it's been cut, I love the smell of the ocean and I love the smell of cooking bacon, I used to be a vegetarian but it was the smell of bacon that converted me back into being a meat eater again, if I didn't have a sense of smell I think I'd still be a vegetarian now! The worst smell is ammonia, I hate it, we had a rabbit once who absolutely stunk the place out no matter how many times she was changed, the smell would make me heave that I just couldn't go near her, it was the first and last time we had a rabbit as a pet, we had to rehome her in the end.

Mmmm...I can just smell the fresh grass now! Except, I'll have to wait until the spring to smell it for real because the grass is covered in snow right now. (LOL) Gotta love winter. I love the ocean so much. I wish I lived near it, but that's probably why I like the salty smell so much. I like bacon too! That's funny you've been converted to a meat lover again. I don't know what I'd do without my steak. Yuck - ammonia is a pretty bad smell. We had a baby bunny once and I think it's just a given that rabbits stink. I will never have another pet rabbit again either. I think that's a one-time thing. I'm glad we're agreed on that! (LOL) Thanks again, Reese.

where did you hear this? the brain governs every aspect of our body, the brain tell the hands and feet to move etc. The smell actually is the first sense developed in a baby and the sense that we remember the most. of course men are affected by smell, during mating men and women send off an odour called pheromones, it is what makes us attracted to each other, just like baser animals. the worst smell for me is vomit favourite smells, I have lots of them, a fresh green pepper, cut grass, a fresh clean baby, baby powder

I have no idea where I heard that, but I suppose what I meant by it was that the sense of smell is the quickest sense to reach the brain. It's kind of like how light (in space) travels faster than sound waves. I don't know if that was a good analogy or not, but that's just what I heard, which is why I started this discussion. I wasn't sure how true it was. Your response is very interesting and I'm glad you were able to share the information with me. I agree with you that vomit is such a horrible smell! That's the worst in my opinion also. I love the smell of fresh cut grass and am looking forward to enjoying that smell in about two months. Thanks for sharing!

For me, the sight is for the mind, while whatever you smell tingles your soul....

Your response is very interesting because you've definitely looked deeper on this particular subject. I love your perspective and I agree with you! Sight is easy to observe; it's easy to see something for what it is. A smell goes much deeper. Your response really made me think! Thanks!!

I think that's pretty common with someone having a significant other. You buy your girl a perfume and she will wear it. That's all you smell when you're around her, so your brain tells you that you're near her whenever you smell that particular scent. I bought my boyfriend my favorite cologne for guys and he wears it so I know I'm with him when I can smell it. He will spray it on my letters and stuffed animals so I can smell him even when he's not there. It was all fine and dandy until my brother's girlfriend got him the same cologne! (LOL) I don't want to go smelling my brother either! I was a little disappointed, but I'll just have to get my boyfriend my second favorite cologne or find a new favorite. A fart is the second worst smell in my opinion next to vomit. Vomit, I think, smells worse, but a fart is pretty bad too! (LOL) Thanks for your response because it was really fun to read. :)
