Yes! I have developed true friendships on the interent. on the interent is no different then in real time, if you are honest and true and so are they, I don't think it matters if it's on the interent or not.. Say for example, it's really no different then conversing with "family" who lives in a different state/country. Friendships too can be done the same way.

I completely agree. There's nothing in the definition or general understanding of the word 'friendship' that implies that people have to actually see one another. Talking and confiding in one another, that's what makes friendship. That's part of what makes families great. Distance and not actually having met does not influence anything. You 'met' somehow, you got to know one another by some means. It's 100% possible, 100% plausible that you could consider someone a friend that you haven't seen in person. Plus, I've found on the internet people are more open and more honest most of the time because there's a level of anonymity. Due to that, it might be plausible to think that maybe online friendships could be faster growing as a result of the internet because there's a smoke screen that let's people be more like themselves.

i've never really met anyone on the internet, but i've certainly stayed in touch with certain people who i'd met in real life and forged some great friendships with them via the internet. this is especially great with people i've met who live quite far from me. so while i may not be meeting people online, i think i've still formed so true friendships on the internet.

Absolutely! Mylot is living proof of that, I have made some wonderful friends on here and the internet and I hope one day that I will get to meet them, true friends as well, friends that have supported me, advised me, loved me and got me through a very nasty situation in my life, without them I wouldn't have got through, they have helped me keep my sanity and have always been there for me, they are true friends. So yes definitely true friendship does exist on the internet and I've been very very fortunate.

I Think that you could have a true friendship on the internet...I mean just becuase you don't see that person everyday doesnt mean that yo ucan't be their friends or that they cant be your friend...I have alot of people that I have met on the internet and other places like mylot that I consider really good friends and I actually think that they are real friends because they have seemed to always have my back no matter what and if they are like that on the internet I would think that they would be like that in person too!

Hi there! I believe that true friendship can really happen on internet just like it can happen in real life. The only difference is that in real life, you meet each other but other than that, there should be no difference at all. Sometimes, I also find myself opening up more to my online friends than to my friends in real life.

I really think it can. Often people meet in person and they prejudge someone by the way they look or the people they hang out with, a number of reasons. On the internet you actually get to talk to people without having those reasons color your perception. I have met a number of wonderful people over the internet, including my boyfriend. We talked for 3 months before we met and we had a much better understanding of who the other person was and what they stood for.

My personal opinion is YES, DEFINITELY. I have a wonderfully close friend we met on the internet about ten years ago. We talk every day about everything. I've never met her and she lives in a totally different part of the world. But we're the greatest friends.

It can but to a point, if the distant between 2 people is too great, it can easily just lead to an impersonal relationship. That is the problem nowadays with the current social networks like Myspace and Facebook, its just so overwhelming with all that it has to offer that you start viewing actually talking to people as work and it loses its meaning. I'd say normal friendships in which you see the personal on a daily/ weekly basis would be a better approach.

Well anything is possible. Friendship can be made not only by face to face conversation or meeting. It could happen anywhere, everywhere and anytime so long as two people could get in contact with each other and will be given chance to know the more the side of each through a lot of conversation. But I do believe that friendship could best be known if it happens in person. I mean if you already know the person in real. Because there are things that one cannot show on internet. You can choose what to show off on internet and what to pretend. (I am having trouble explaining what I mean, but I hope you know what I mean.)
