Do you have a secret email address?

I have alot of email addresses. I use them for various reasons, but I have one that I keep for private purposes. Perhaps its not the best way of going about things, but I'll be the first to admit my faults. How many of you have a secret email address?

I have just one which I have used as an emergency to throw off my ex. It has saved me a few times, it's fortunate that my ex doesn't understand that you can tell from what country you are sending emails from! I set it up to save my sanity and it was part of my escape plan, it worked, I don't use it any more but boy was it worth it's weight in gold. It wasn't for nefarious reasons, I really had to use it and it got me out a very dicey and unbearable situation.

Thats exactly why I have mine. I have to converse with my ex because my daughter lives with him, but my current boyfriend always tries to read between the lines and always thinks I'm trying to get back with him, so its easier just to avoid the situation all together.

I don't like being sneaky either, but in actuality I have given my passwords to my boyfriend and yet he won't do the same for me, so what can I say?

Not that I am trying to talk you into doing anything against your better judgement, but this gives me the opportunity to tell people that their is a site called mail.com and you can use any user id along with up to 250 addresses, for example johndoe@cyberguy.com or joesmith@yours.com. Its pretty cool.

i don't have a secret email per se, but i do have an old supposedly defunct one that i've kept alive to use in certain circumstances. usually i don't need for private reasons, but more so when i don't want some company on the internet knowing my personal email address because i don't trust they aren't going to sell it to 50 thousand other companies.

I think more people are utilizing more than one address for reasons like you have explained and others in this discussion.

I have separate email addresses for different things and unless I change my email address from one safe email to another, no one knows my other email address. So no one here knows the one I use for my writing email, the one I use for my friends and family, the one I use for my music email, etc. I do not want to get spam and I do not think it is a fault to have separate email addresses even if they are gmails. You can never be too safe.

Now I have to get another email address if I decide to use a pseudonym for my novels. My real name sounds too boring. So I have to think of something exciting. :)

I can't speak for your user id, but there is a site called mail.com that offers over 250 email addresses. For example johndoe@yours.com or johndoe@london.com. I have several email addresses there. And of course it is free.

I have one, well it is not very secret. In my line of job, I have to pretent to be someone else over the phone, I used a different name but don't get me wrong, it not cheating per se. Anyway, since I'm using a different name, I need to supply a different email address. I have several aka at the office and I prepared email add for every aka. If time comes that I'll change career, I'll get rid of all thoses email addresses.

lol I know! I'm a librarian by profession but I'm currently a research assistant and need to supply my boss with information that you don't just get by calling people and companies. I need to make a story and pretend to be someone else to get info, discussions are only thru phones, its the nature of the job, one of the reasons why I'm planning to change tracks.

Hi there! I have 3 or 4 e-mail addresses and only one is my primary that I use for most things. If you don't mind my asking, what do you consider "private purposes"? I send e-mails to friends with my primary e-mail and give that e-mail to websites and places where I want to get e-mails and information from. I don't give that one away to just anyone. That is my AOL address. I like AOL the most. I also have a Yahoo e-mail so that I can have the chat/messenger application. I only e-mail one person in particular with that one, so I guess you could say that one is private because I use that for business only. I also have a MSN/Hotmail e-mail that is probably the most private of all since I haven't told anyone what it is! (LOL) So...I guess you could say I do have a private one (or two). I don't really mind giving my e-mail out to a reliable person or place because AOL in particular is really good about cleaning out spam from my inbox. I don't know what I would do without e-mail! Great discussion.

What I meant by "for private purposes" is using an email address to perhaps write to someone that you don't want anyone else to know you are writing to for whatever that reason might be. As in my example, I use an email address to communicate with my ex to keep peace with my current boyfriend. Thanks for your response.

Thanks for clearing that up. I appreciate hearing about your special e-mail address. It's actually a really good idea because you can get free e-mail accounts pretty much anywhere nowadays. In my opinion, that's really wise of you to have your private e-mail as not to stir up things between the two you are in contact with. That's a very good way to look ahead on things and see into the future a bit at what might possibly transpire by keeping in touch with your ex as it might upset things with your significant other now. It's not like you're trying to hide anything because you are e-mailng your ex. I think a private e-mail is a great idea. Thanks for an awesome discussion!

I don't have a secret email address but I do have another to my regular with yahoo because to join a freecycle site I had to have that particular email account. I have considered getting another because my inbox at moment has 791 in it and to go through them all will be a nightmare but a lot will be junk mail so do need to sort something. A filing system for emails eh!

That makes sense to me. Thats one of the reasons I have several emails, one for personal and a few for survey sites and stuff like that send confirmation emails and the like.

I am an open book to all of my friends. I do not like to hide some thing from my friends. So I have no secrecy. It means that I have no secret email address. I like to those people who like to become like an open book. We can get this quality if we get self confidence.

I understand your point and its not my habit to hide things from my friends, however allowing my boyfriend to be privy to my ex is a bigger headache than keeping a private email address.

I use several, almost 'many' email addresses for various businesses. A secret address is actually recommended.

I dont & I would be livid if my boyfriend had one to contact his ex. Shes the slimey kind who would love to try and read between the lines herself and get back with him. She doesnt understand what divorced means. If your just doing it to talk about your daughter I dont see the problem. Man relationships, exes all the such are tricky business:)

Yes its just about my daughter. The thing is I can't control what is written to me, not to say its bad, but sometimes my boyfriend thinks there is more than meets the eye.

I use two e-mail addresses. The first one is the address that I use when writing messages to my friends and to anybody I want. This is an address that I check everyday. I don't download my messages to a computer so I don't get too many spam messages. Actually, I haven't gotten any spam in a long time. I think that if somebody has problems with spam then checking e-mail online is a good way to avoid spam. At least it works for me. The second e-mail address I don't check daily because I don't tell other people about it. I only use it when I register somewhere and if I'm not sure about that website... just to avoid possible spams. Maybe that is also a reason why I don't get spam to my default address.
